"So what about the compensation promised by the Old Gods?" Dragonzel asked with a sigh. "I hope my lovely daughter hasn't been led astray from her true purpose by those Green Man Elders."
Rhaegor shrugged: "Serena said in her letter that she knew the Old Gods and those who served them were unreliable when she found out the promised compensation from the Old Gods landed in Miss Mylissa's belly. She proudly stated in the letter that she knew it wouldn't work this time before that mystical Green Man Elder even spoke."
"This child is still clear-headed about that, brother." Ray smiled: "According to traditional theological theory, the Old Gods' power has declined for too long, or rather, according to your theory, brother, the movement of the song of earth and water, which represents the Children of the Forest, has passed. In the song of ice and fire, they are no longer dominant."
"No, they are not that simple." Dragonzel stroked his long beard, "Ray, my father's and my theories are not entirely accurate. My father relied on ancient legends and wild guesses, while I rely on magical prophecies and the revelations of the 'Gods'. But prophecies are not explicit, the future can still be changed, and the 'Gods' are fickle; they only compose music for the world's continued existence. Continue, Rhaegor."
"Under normal circumstances, when the Green Prophet originally cultivated could not provide compensation on time, the child promised by the Three-Eyed Raven should have broken free from the torrent of destiny. In destiny, he is of royal blood, a descendant of ancient kings and Dragonlords. He will inherit the Green Prophet's millennium-long mission, watching over before the Long Night arrives. He is the destined Three-Eyed Raven, with a thousand and one eyes open for him, allowing him to see across the Seven Kingdoms, inside and outside the Wall. He should have responded within the family's bloodline, but the Green Man Elder told Serena that the Three-Eyed Raven saw the torrent of destiny and dared not defy its influence, or rather…"
Rhaegor sighed: "Serena said she couldn't understand the Green Man Elder's nonsensical explanation, but she translated it to mean that the Old Gods' magic is currently unable to interfere with the course of destiny, which resulted in the 'destined Three-Eyed Raven' who was supposed to be paid to us, still descending within the bloodline of the First Men's kings and Valyrian Dragonlords according to his original destiny. It's a pity the family currently has no descendants of First Men kings." Rhaegor couldn't help but look at Dragonzel.
The family actually had one who met this condition.
Dragonzel, his wife Diana, came from House Tarly. And House Tarly's bloodline could be traced back to the true First Men King, Garth "the Greenhand."
But it was not reflected in Dragonzel.
Rhaegor said he couldn't understand.
But Rhaegor was not wrong about one thing: the illegitimate child in Miss Mylissa's belly met this condition. According to the Green Man Elder, that child came from the Blackwood and Targaryen bloodlines. The Blackwoods, in their self-reported history, had twice claimed kingship; House Blackwood in the Age of Heroes was the King of the Wolfswood, ruling the primeval forests of the North. At that time, Blackwood, Stark, Bolton, the Marsh King, the First King, and others ruled the vast lands north of the Neck. After being driven out of the Neck by the Kings of the North, House Blackwood again ruled the Trident River region as First Men Kings.
Blackwood blood also flowed in the veins of many Riverlands dynasties' monarchs.
So Blackwood also met the criteria for a First Men King.
Dragonzel closed his eyes, his speculation becoming clearer in his mind.
Ice and fire. The First Men's kings and Valyrian Dragonlords... no, ice does not refer to the First Men's kings. In the First Men's most prosperous era, the song of ice and fire was still in its prelude. That era belonged to the earth, mountains, forests, and rivers; it was the age of bronze and dragonglass.
Thus, it seems that if the prophecy that caused all of today's results is to be fulfilled, it will ultimately fall upon the Stark family, who simultaneously meet both the "ice" and First Men King conditions.
Dragonzel couldn't help but recall the secret history of the Stark family that Lord Cregan had told him.
Eight thousand years is too distant; even if the maesters believe it hasn't been that long, the antiquity of the Stark family is undeniable. Even though the Stark family has endured to this day, their oldest records only exist in legends and nursery rhymes.
But there are still some prophetic elements passed down by word of mouth through generations of Winter Kings, Kings of the North, and now the Lord of Winterfell, the Warden of the North.
For example, the legend of the Others, the warning that the Long Night is coming, and the problems within the Stark family's bloodline.
Lord Cregan had only vaguely learned that the Night's King, who had a pale-skinned, cold woman as his queen, was very likely a member of the Stark family sent to the Wall. He also did not know the Night's King's true identity. But the family's oral tradition left him with the impression that "the Stark bloodline has a problem."
As well as the strange burial customs in the Winterfell crypts.
This was indeed very strange.
Dragonzel opened his eyes: "Did Serena go to Harrenhal?"
Rhaegor nodded: "Serena's letter ended by telling us to keep Orion in check, as she worried he might be tempted to go support Dan and Jacaerys. But because of that Green Man Elder's wild talk, she herself had to go to Harrenhal to look after Mylissa, hoping that child truly is as those Old Gods worshippers said."
Rhaegor knew his father would surely understand his hidden meaning.
The Old Gods' worshippers dared not offend Dragonzel; they would surely try to salvage the outcome.
That child will inevitably be close to the Varezes family.
Let's hope so.
The second generation of the Varezes family was not entirely confined to their small world in Dragon Nest City; they had their own lives and social circles. Rhaegor was on excellent terms with the Borderlands nobles and Khal Asule, moving effortlessly within Dragon Nest City's noble circles. Jacaerys mingled among the knights wandering the Borderlands. Dan could always be found with Lady Helena in the taverns of Summerhall and Silver Crown City, catching Jacaerys who was drinking with knights. Dan and Legan were relatively less social; Dan preferred to spend time with family over external socializing, while Serena had a large and complex network. The most beautiful daughter of the Varezes family loved to host parties at her villas in several major cities of the Borderlands, inviting close young ladies and noblewomen of the Varezes family to visit. Miss Mylissa Blackwood was one of her closest confidantes.
These noble ladies often held gatherings, and Serena was usually the most dazzling among them.
Her villa had even been built in White Harbor.
After all, she was the "Light of the Borderlands."
"Tell Serena to adapt as needed." Dragonzel said with a smile: "Tell her, father trusts her."
I'm too busy today, so only one update. The good news is that the preliminary work can be completed by Monday at the earliest, and once my topic is finalized in mid-December, there won't be as much to do.
