I'll never forget what I saw that day.
It's hard to describe.
The creature was massive—its head nearly touching the roof. Boils covered its body, and its skin looked melted and hardened at the same time.
It had no specific shape.
Its body twisted and shifted like something alive and broken.
Its colour was sickly green.
And its hands were knives.
But the worst part…
Was Sanchi.
My best friend.
It was impacted through the chest by one of the creature's blade-hands.
My legs gave out, and I collapsed.
I tried to scream.
Nothing came out.
The creature turned toward me.
"You can see me," its voice boomed.
Sanchi coughed blood.
"Amary… run…"
The creature dropped Sanchi to the ground and turned fully toward me.
"You possess it," it growled.
"You possess it!"
It stepped closer.
I couldn't move.
My body refused to obey me.
The creature raised its blade hand.
"Killing two birds with one stone," it said.
I closed my eyes.
Then—
A violent impact.
The wind exploded around me.
When I opened my eyes, the creature no longer had a head.
Its body collapsed backwards, shaking the building.
Behind it stood Sanchi.
His arm was outstretched.
A glowing trident floated above it.
He met my eyes and forced a weak smile.
Then the trident vanished.
The creature crumbled into dust.
Sanchi collapsed.
I rushed to him, holding his bloody shirt.
"Sanchi! Don't worry! I'll get help!"
I checked my pockets.
My heart dropped.
Shit! I had left my phone at home.
Tears blurred my vision.
"Sanchi… if you die…I'll kill you!"
I shouted, desperately as I tried to lift him.
I managed two steps before he collapsed again.
"Help!" I screamed. "Somebody help!"
"Amary…"
I crouched beside him.
"Leave it to me," I whispered.
I wiped my tears.
"I'm going to get help."
I stood up immediately.
"N-No...Wait… I'm done for…," Sanchi coughed weakly.
"I have to tell you something important."
"Stop talking, jerk! You're not gonna die! Stop scaring me like that, you asshole!"
Sanchi laughed, then winced in pain.
"I'm even shocked I've been alive this long. It's not possible, a miracle I say."
I heard police sirens.
"The cops! They're coming. Oh, thank God. You're going to be okay, just hang on," I squealed through my tears.
Sanchi's eyes widened.
"Amary go! They'll — they'll think you did this. Leave now."
My heart dropped, and I turned back; the beast had disappeared.
"I-I don't care. I've been a sucky friend. If only I'd believed your claims about these monsters, then maybe—"
"Amary… I don't think I have much time left. I've got one more thing to say."
"Shut up! Nothing's going to happen. Help is coming."
"Amary… I've always been alone ever since my brother left home. But you...you stepped into my life and made it anew. Amary… I think… I've fallen in love with you."
I froze slowly, letting his words sink in.
"Dumbass! I've loved you ever since day one. Ever since I saw you all beat up the day we met. So live! Live so we can run the world together."
Sanchi smiled and placed his head on the floor, slowly closing his eyes.
"Sanchi?! Sanchi!"
The police burst in, and what happened next forever remained a blur.
Me screaming Sanchi's name as I was pulled from the scene, thrashing and kicking.
Paramedics rushing to Sanchi's side.
The last thing I could recall was the thump of my head hitting the doorframe, and the darkness that followed.
