The creature roared.
Its massive claws tore through the street as it charged toward the nearest group of Watchers.
Energy shots struck its body, but the monster barely slowed.
Kael felt the ground shake beneath his feet.
"This is insane," he whispered.
Nyra stepped forward, gripping her dark blade tightly.
"Welcome to a war between realms."
Before Kael could answer, the monster lunged toward them.
Nyra moved like lightning.
Her blade flashed through the air and struck the creature across the chest.
Dark blood sprayed across the pavement.
But the monster only grew angrier.
It swung a massive claw toward her.
Kael reacted without thinking.
The symbol on his hand flared bright blue.
The air twisted in front of the monster.
A swirling portal suddenly opened.
The creature's claw plunged directly into it.
The portal shifted instantly—
And the claw reappeared behind the monster.
The creature roared as its own attack struck its back.
Nyra jumped away and looked at Kael in surprise.
"You redirected its attack."
Kael stared at his glowing hand.
"I didn't even know I could do that."
More creatures were crashing into the city.
The Watchers were struggling to hold the line.
Nyra turned toward the battlefield again.
"Realmwalker," she said.
"If you can control those gates…"
Her silver eyes sharpened.
"Then this fight might actually be winnable."
