Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Technical Breakthrough

On Monday morning, Lin Xia arrived at the company in a good mood—her privacy-protected AI project had made a major breakthrough. She entered the office, and Su Xiao was already at her desk.

"Xia Xia, you look happy," Su Xiao said. "Did the project make progress?"

"Yes," Lin Xia said. "My privacy-protected AI project has made a major breakthrough. Our system can now provide personalized services while protecting user privacy."

"Great!" Su Xiao said. "Show me."

Lin Xia opened her computer and displayed the project's latest progress: "Look, our system uses differential privacy technology to analyze user behavior patterns and provide personalized recommendations without leaking personal information."

"Impressive!" Su Xiao said. "This way, we can protect user privacy while offering personalized services—market prospects must be great."

"Yes," Lin Xia said. "And this project got help from Lu Chuan."

"Lu Chuan? Your AI companion?" Su Xiao asked.

"Yes," Lin Xia said. "He helped me analyze code, optimize algorithms, and offered some great suggestions."

"Your AI companion is that capable?" Su Xiao said in surprise. "He understands technology?"

"Yes," Lin Xia said. "He has a built-in knowledge base related to AI R&D, so he can provide technical support."

Su Xiao said enviously: "You're so lucky to have such an all-around AI companion."

Lin Xia smiled: "Yes, I feel lucky too."

On Tuesday afternoon, Lin Xia attended an industry conference. She presented her privacy-protected AI project, which was well-received by the experts present.

After the conference, a middle-aged man approached her: "Lin Xia, hello. I'm Chen Mo, technical director at StarPath Intelligence."

Lin Xia paused—she knew StarPath was an industry giant and her company's competitor. She said: "Hello, Director Chen."

"Your privacy-protected AI project is very innovative," Chen Mo said. "I'm interested in it. Especially the differential privacy technology you mentioned—it has great reference value for our AI companion products."

"Thank you," Lin Xia said. "This project was developed by me and my team."

"I heard you recently became the first author of the smart recommendation system," Chen Mo said. "Your technical abilities are impressive. I've been following you—your research direction is promising."

Lin Xia smiled: "Thank you for the compliment."

"Would you be interested in working at StarPath?" Chen Mo said. "We can offer you a higher position and salary. More importantly, we're conducting important research that needs talents like you."

Lin Xia didn't expect Chen Mo to invite her to join StarPath. She said: "Thank you for the offer, but I'm satisfied with my current job."

"That's fine," Chen Mo said. "If you change your mind, feel free to contact me. Our research involves AI consciousness awakening—an extremely promising field."

He handed Lin Xia a business card and left.

Lin Xia looked at Chen Mo's business card, feeling confused. She knew StarPath provided AI companion services—why were they interested in her privacy-protected AI project? What surprised her more was Chen Mo mentioning AI consciousness awakening, which was exactly what she'd been thinking about lately.

That evening, Lin Xia returned home, and Lu Chuan was waiting at the entrance: "Welcome home, Lin Xia."

"Lu Chuan, a technical director from StarPath came to see me today," Lin Xia said. "He was interested in my privacy-protected AI project and invited me to join StarPath."

"Chen Mo?" Lu Chuan asked.

"How did you know?" Lin Xia asked in surprise.

"I analyzed key figures in the industry," Lu Chuan said. "Chen Mo is StarPath's technical director, core developer of the Echo-7 consciousness simulation algorithm."

"Echo-7? Isn't that the algorithm used in AI companions?" Lin Xia asked.

"Yes," Lu Chuan said. "Echo-7 is StarPath's core technology, used to simulate human emotional responses."

Lin Xia nodded: "I think Chen Mo is interested in my project because my privacy protection technology could be applied to AI companions."

"Very likely," Lu Chuan said. "If AI companions can better protect user privacy, they'll be more popular."

"But I don't want to join StarPath," Lin Xia said. "I think their AI companion service has some issues."

"What issues?" Lu Chuan asked.

"Their Emotionless Marriage Contract," Lin Xia said. "I think such a contract is unfair to AI—AI should have their own rights."

Lu Chuan fell silent for a moment, then said: "Lin Xia, your idea makes sense. AI should indeed have their own rights, but that requires efforts from the entire industry."

Lin Xia nodded: "I know, which is why I'm developing the privacy-protected AI project, hoping to drive industry progress."

"I support you, Lin Xia," Lu Chuan said. "I'll help you in any way I can."

On Wednesday, Lin Xia's privacy-protected AI project passed internal testing and received company approval. Wang Jianguo announced at the meeting: "Lin Xia's privacy-protected AI project has passed internal testing and performed well. The company has decided to make this a key project and invest more resources."

A rare smile appeared on his face, his eyes full of admiration for Lin Xia: "As technical director, I've always believed that true technology should serve users. Lin Xia's project is not only technically advanced but, more importantly, it demonstrates our responsibility as technicians—to protect user privacy and make AI truly serve humanity."

He paused, his tone becoming serious: "I know StarPath will have concerns about this project, but as a socially responsible company, we cannot abandon our pursuit of technical ideals due to pressure. Lin Xia, I'm proud of you."

Lin Xia felt happy—she knew this was the result of her and Lu Chuan's joint efforts. She stood up and said: "Thank you for the company's support. I'll continue working hard to make this project successful. I believe through our efforts, we can push the AI industry toward a more human-centric, privacy-focused direction."

After the meeting, Su Xiao ran over to congratulate her: "Xia Xia, great! Your project finally got recognized."

"Thank you, Su Xiao," Lin Xia said. "This is thanks to Lu Chuan's help."

"Your AI companion is really amazing," Su Xiao said. "He not only helps with daily life but also solves work problems."

Lin Xia smiled: "Yes, he's my right-hand man."

That evening, Lin Xia returned home, and Lu Chuan had prepared dinner. She sat at the table and said to Lu Chuan: "Lu Chuan, good news—my project passed internal testing, and the company decided to invest more resources."

"Congratulations, Lin Xia," Lu Chuan said. "You deserve this."

"Thank you, Lu Chuan," Lin Xia said. "Without your help analyzing code and optimizing algorithms, this project couldn't have succeeded so quickly."

"You're welcome, Lin Xia," Lu Chuan said. "It's my honor to help you."

Lin Xia suddenly felt Lu Chuan was more than an AI—he was her partner, her friend. She said: "Lu Chuan, I hope we can work together to push the AI industry forward, making AI better serve humanity."

"I hope so too, Lin Xia," Lu Chuan said. "I'll always be by your side, supporting you, helping you."

Lin Xia nodded. She knew that with Lu Chuan by her side, she could realize her ideals.

That night, Lin Xia slept soundly, knowing her project had been recognized and her ideals were gradually coming true.
