(JASPER'S POV)
For one brief second, I thought Blue was going to attack me. A small, deeply unreasonable part of me actually hoped he would. I hadn't had a proper fight in weeks, my heart was already falling apart, and there was nothing left in that ruined house to hit without making the situation worse.
A fight might have been a welcome distraction.
Blue, however, remained perfectly still.
When he spoke, his voice was quiet.
That was far more unsettling than shouting.
"I'm looking for him too."
I stared at him.
He didn't look away.
"Him, and everyone else who was in this house this morning. My mate's brother. His mother. His sister. My friends." His jaw flexed, and something vicious moved behind those dead-blue eyes. "Every single one of them is gone."
For a moment, nobody spoke.
"There are no bodies," he continued. "Nothing."
The words settled between us.
And suddenly, everything made sense in the worst possible way. Gilbert hadn't simply disappeared.
