Synopsis
I never wished to be one of the Dead. Being one of the Dead isn’t what normal people normally pray for. And although, in this context, being Dead doesn’t truly mean you are dead—at least, not entirely. It is a state between life and death. Where your soul lingers, your humanity fades, and something else begins to take its place. And yet… I chose it. No. I was chosen. And now, having accepted this existence, it has become my deepest need to become the most evolved of the Dead. Once, I was nothing more than an orphan—just another forgotten boy surviving in the slums, living inside a rusting, converted bus my uncle once used to cook drugs. I fought to survive, 'cause aside from my not so caring uncle, I had no one. Well, not until Death found me. That was when everything changed. Death exposed me to the true reality hidden beneath the illusion of what I once believed the world to be. I saw monstrous things—demons, fallen warriors, and necromantic beings raised through forbidden magic. Souls dragged back from death and forced into existence once more, but in monstrous forms. I saw creatures—evils and beasts—that threatened to devour our entire sphere. Then, I also learned the truth. Earth is not the only sphere that exists. There are countless others, each inhabited by different species and creatures. There is the Elven Sphere—the world of the elves. The Orcanian Sphere, home of the orcs—green-skinned beings shaped like humans, yet far from them. And the Dwarken Spheres—the domain of the dwarves. And then… there is the Forbidden Sphere. The sphere of monstrosities. A realm where demons, abominations, and horrors beyond imagination are born. It is from this sphere that the horrors come. These spheres do not exist in isolation. They connect and at times overlap. They bleed into one another… and into ours. Yes… bleed. It is not many times that you will just suddenly wake up and find out that the friend beside you all this while has been an elf or an orc that entered to explore your world, but was hidden from you all this while because you lacked the sight to see through nature. When I was found by death, that was when I learned all this, when I learned who I was, the power within me, my truth, and my destiny. And now, I must navigate through all these worlds and fight all these monsters and demons in order to keep our sphere and other spheres safe. Because if I don't... Our sphere—and every other—will fall.

Chapter 1 - The boy in the slums

[There's an auxiliary chapter above. One with the prologue. Read for clearer understanding. It is a must however]

...

[Earth sphere]

...

Thud.

"Mmm...mmm...mmm."

Elena smashed Will's back into a wooden cabinet, causing the old bus to tremble on its tired hinges. Their kisses continued more frantically and ferociously, as though the next second their lips would vanish if they didn't kiss enough.

"You are some bitch, I would give you that," Will breathed out within the small instant that their lips separated.

"Shut up and continue kissing," Elena replied as she hauled his lips back onto hers, and the kisses continued even more rapidly.

Their eyes were shut tight, and their hands walked on each other's bodies like maniacs.

One moment, they were against the cabinet.

The next—Will was airborne.

He flew through the air and, with a soft bounce, landed on the bed.

Elena had thrown him onto the bed like he weighed nothing.

Will slowly raised his head to look at her.

And she stood there casually, as though she hadn't just thrown a fully grown boy across the room like a misplaced pillow.

Will was baffled. His eyes darted from the bed back to her. Normally, as a self-proclaimed rational thinker, and a man who respected physics when physics respected him, he would calculate the wide distance between the cabinet and the bed, his weight, and the strength that it required to carry out such a throw.

But instead, he was annoyed that Elena had done a job he should be the one to do.

A man, by universal agreement—well, unwritten but deeply respected—was supposed to be the one doing the throwing.

Right?

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Elena asked as she made a beguiling movement towards him, then noticed how Will was staring at her with a wide-eyed, horror-struck face and a slight frown.

"Oh," Will snapped, a smile stretching across his face. It was as genuine and reassuring as it came.

"I was just wondering if I would survive what we are about to do," he replied.

It was a teasing reply, but the weight under the tone wasn't negligible. If she could toss him like he was some discarded laundry, who knows what else she could do?

He wasn't sure if he should be excited… or start writing his will.

"My will," he mused. "Right, like I have anything."

...

Will Cedric had been visited earlier by Elena, his girlfriend, in his house, which was an old converted bus in the slums of Nethros City.

It was an old, rusting bus that had long outlived its purpose.

It used to belong to his uncle, who used it to cook meth, but after Will's parents' demise, he let Will live in it after tricking him and taking over all his parents' property.

All his uncle did for Will was pay his school fees and give him unsustainable food, and then Will survived on his own.

But today was different.

Today was his birthday.

And for once, he had decided that survival could take a break, even if only for a moment.

However, Elena had come earlier, a small smile playing on her lips and a promise in her eyes as she told him she had a gift for him. A special one. And now, as he lay on the bed with her above him, it became very clear what she had meant.

Honestly… he couldn't complain.

...

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Elena asked, her green irises twitching with disappointment as she stopped her movements.

"What?" Will retorted. "Oh, don't kill the spirits already, my lady." He positioned himself well on the bed.

"In my world, it's taboo to be a virgin at seventeen, and my seventeenth birthday, if you've noticed, is today." He paused, then smiled seductively. "Yeah, bring it on. If I perish, I perish."

"I'm glad to hear that," Elena said with a smiled as she slowly started to unbutton her school shirt. Will swallowed as he waited in deep anticipation.

She undid her last button, then slowly crawled onto the bed and straddled Will, a very seductive smile perched on her face.

"I too have been waiting for this moment, Will." Her voice came out low, almost like a whisper, sending a thrill through Will as he gasped, his heart seeming to skip forty-eight beats.

"I've been waiting and wanting to know what it feels like to fuck a human." She paused. "Fuck, right? That's how your sphere says it."

Will blinked, then tilted his head slightly, a grin forming. "That is, without a doubt, the strangest romantic line I have ever heard."

Elena smiled and bit down on her lower lip. She leaned on him with a slow, seductive movement. "Then let me make it unforgettable."

Will's breath hitched. Heat and pleasure rippled over him. His head twirled as the sensation reached his brain. It was like he wasn't himself anymore, like pleasure had taken over. Her warm breath, her closeness—it all spiraled him.

Elena leaned up, then, with one single movement, pulled her skirt over her head. That one action sent shivers through Will.

His heart started pounding faster. His nerves responded quicker. His metabolism changed. Tremors took over his body. It was as if his body couldn't contain him anymore.

His breath was no longer steady. In the next instant, it reached his eyes—they burned, but the pleasure he was feeling seemed to hold him in place. His hands lay uselessly at his sides. He couldn't even move them to rub his burning eyes.

Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.

Because the next instant, they began to glow. The rings of his irises began to glow a bright ashen white. Not that he knew, or that Elena saw it, but he could feel his eyes burning.

However, as for Elena, she was grinding and riding him now on the bed, oblivious to what was happening to Will.

And then—something shifted.

Just then, Elena started to change.

Her skin began to turn green. Her once fair breasts and tantalizing brownish-red nipples changed. Her breasts turned green, with very black nipples. Her skin, though smooth before, turned green as well. Though still smooth, it looked like something impenetrable.

Her face, too, turned green, returning to its natural color. Two little teeth poked out from her lips, like oversized canines. Her neck-length hair became long and very dark.

The illusion had broken and now her true form lay bare to Will's eyes.

Will could have sworn he saw his heart grow legs and take to its heels.

"What in the She-Hulk's name are you?" he managed to breathe out through the chaos. Fear crept all over him. He wanted to—no, scratch that—needed to run, but this cursed body didn't allow him.

"What do you mean, Will? What are you saying? Fuck, you are so hot," Elena replied, not knowing what was happening.

"What in the fuckery is happening to me?"

But Elena just ignored him, thinking it was just some pleasure moans coming from an amateur kid and a virgin. She even liked it—the way it seemed she turned him on—so she reached to unbuckle his belt, and at that, fear took over Will.

He wanted her to leave him alone—no, he needed her to stop. Every instinct in him screamed danger. His heart pounded wildly against his ribs as if trying to break free, his breath coming in sharp, shallow bursts. Something was terribly wrong, and whatever it was, it was only getting worse.

And in that state of panic, everywhere went silent.

Elena paused, her mouth hung open between moans and ecstasy, her hands mid-action as she unbuckled his belt.

Everything froze—even the flies that seemed ready to make the two their own spectacle hung motionless in the air.
