New York City, Queens, 10th District, 9 PM.
Natasha strolled into a convenience store. She wanted to buy a bottle of coffee to refresh herself. As for why she was out so late, Natasha was simply wandering around.
It was mainly due to a S.H.I.E.L.D. mission. A masked vigilante calling himself Daredevil had appeared in Hell's Kitchen, less than two blocks from Queens.
Natasha's mission was to observe this Daredevil, to see if he had the potential to join any programs, and whether S.H.I.E.L.D. should take a series of measures against him.
Of course, the prerequisite for such measures was if he endangered the lives of New York City's people.
Apparently, this guy named Daredevil was not endangering the lives of New York City's people. Instead, he was protecting their lives and property.
All she needed to do was observe whether Daredevil could join the Avengers Initiative.
It was just that this damn Daredevil did not know when he would appear. Usually by this time, she would already be getting her beauty sleep.
"Oh, this guy is..." Ren saw a young man and exclaimed in surprise. This guy looked so familiar. And he had delicious genes that made him unable to resist.
"Do you know him?" Natasha looked at the young man in front of her.
Oh no, he should be called a teenager. By his age, he was probably just barely an adult.
"No, but he has genes that make me drool. He's probably a genetic mutant. In my eyes, he's a delicious Spider-Man," Ren said naturally.
He could not tell the truth. Sometimes, a mix of half-truths and half-lies is what makes people believe.
That's right, the person in front of him was Spider-Man Peter Parker.
Of course, he was not Spider-Man yet. No one is born a hero. Everyone must undergo a transformation to become a true superhero.
And for Spider-Man's transformation, it was when his Uncle Ben was shot dead by a robber, and then Spider-Man became the true Spider-Man.
Peter's mood was terrible right now, even worse than arguing with his girlfriend Gwen.
His Uncle Ben usually picked Aunt May up from work, but because Uncle Ben had to work overtime today, Peter was supposed to pick Aunt May up.
But Peter had been completely engrossed in his experiments today and had long forgotten about it. Although he was a bit scared, what if Aunt May encountered danger on her way home at night?
After all, New York at night is not very safe, especially having to pass through two neighborhoods with not-so-good public safety.
Uncle Ben took this opportunity to lecture Peter.
Peter was an adult now, with his own ideas, and many of Uncle Ben's thoughts seemed outdated to Peter.
Especially when Uncle Ben brought up his father, which made him even sadder.
This era was no longer like before. People were not as easy to approach as they once were.
Even among neighbors, there were rarely the close, family-like relationships of twenty years ago.
This era was no longer one where good deeds were rewarded.
Peter expressed his thoughts, then had a big argument with Uncle Ben, and was now running away from home.
After all, even though Peter Parker had always been a good kid, he still had a rebellious phase as a youth.
"I said this bottle of coffee costs two dollars and seventy cents," the chubby cashier at the convenience store said impatiently while looking at the crumpled banknotes in front of him.
Peter only had two dollars and fifty cents on him, still short twenty cents.
Peter took twenty cents from the convenience store's change box to cover the difference.
"Kid, don't you understand English? It says here that using cents from the change box requires a purchase of ten dollars or more," the chubby cashier threw the twenty cents back into the change box without a second thought.
"If you don't have money, then please don't block the customers behind you from checking out."
Peter felt terrible. The sense of accomplishment from his successful experiment today was completely gone.
"My experiment is going to change the world, but I can't even afford two dollars and seventy cents coffee," Peter's heart was filled with indignation.
Behind Peter, a middle-aged Caucasian man with long blonde hair and large sunglasses, carrying a pack of beer, came to the counter to check out.
Just as the cashier was about to take the money and give change, the man seemingly accidentally bumped into the candy display shelf on the counter.
"Hey, buddy, can you be more careful?" The chubby store clerk said to the Caucasian man, then helplessly picked up the knocked-over shelf and candies first.
Just then, the Caucasian man reached his hand into the counter's cash register and pulled out all the banknotes from inside.
All of this was seen by Peter, but Peter had no intention of stopping him.
"This store clerk deserves a lesson." This was Peter's thought at the moment.
The man saw that Peter neither stopped his theft nor warned the clerk.
He nodded at Peter, then tossed the bottled coffee Peter had just wanted to buy directly to him. Then he quickly fled from the convenience store's other exit.
"It seems this kid's personality is not very good," Natasha said, narrowing her eyes as she watched the scene.
"Let's go after him first. Kids this age are still immature, and it's understandable. They need more guidance," Ren said indifferently.
Natasha nodded. Although she was not a person overflowing with compassion, if Ren said to go after him, then she would. After all, it was just a matter of convenience. Such petty thieves did not require much effort.
Peter watched Natasha chase after the thief and wondered if he had done something wrong.
Natasha trailed far behind. She was curious why Ren wanted her to catch up.
Soon, she saw someone trying to stop the Caucasian man and wrestling with him.
Natasha's eyesight was already extremely sharp, and with her physical abilities enhanced by Ren, she could see everything clearly even at night.
The middle-aged Caucasian man pulled out a gun from his waistband. Natasha's pupils constricted. Gun ownership is legal so basically everyone has a handgun.
Natasha instantly pulled out her personal handgun, aimed at the middle-aged Caucasian man's gun, and fired directly.
One after another, two gunshots rang out.
Ben Parker collapsed to the ground, powerless. He had been shot.
Fortunately, because Natasha fired first, she managed to deflect the gun in the middle-aged Caucasian man's hand slightly.
This meant Ben Parker did not sustain a fatal injury, but he was still in danger after being shot.
"Damn it!" Natasha cursed under her breath.
She put away her handgun and ran to Ben Parker's side. Seeing the wound on Ben Parker's body, she breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, it was not a fatal wound.
Although she was not a person overflowing with compassion, in this situation, Natasha was happy to step in and help.
"No! Oh no!" Only after hearing the gunshot did Peter realize what had happened. He also saw that familiar figure — it was his Uncle Ben, and he had been shot.
He was completely breaking down now. It was that guy! He could have stopped him, but he let him get away, causing Uncle Ben to be shot.
