Previously, the upward blast of displaced air slammed into the bottom of the lift, propelling the platform upward at breakneck speed.
Inside the ascending iron box, the emergency lights cut out. The hum of the elevator motor abruptly ceased, leaving behind a deafening stillness.
The air suddenly turned heavy and suffocating, thick with the stench of copper and rust that made every breath a struggle.
Trapped together inside, Louise and Elena were confined to a three-by-three-meter space that felt less like a cargo platform and more like an iron coffin, compounding the growing despair between them.
"Out there, everything might have already collapsed... but in here? In this pitch-black darkness, there's only me, sitting in silence clutching my knees. The purple light radiating from my skin is the sole source of illumination inside this dark shaft," Louise muttered under her breath.
The soft, rhythmic patter of sweat dripping onto the metal floor broke through the quiet. Driven by curiosity, Louise searched for the source, only to find Elena sitting in the opposite corner, eyes tightly shut as she clutched her blood-soaked shoulder.
No words were spoken. Only a heavy silence hung between them, feeling far more suffocating than the gravity pulling their bodies downward.
Suddenly, an ear-splitting screech of grinding metal ripped through the quiet.
The cargo lift shuddered to a violent halt. The emergency lights overhead flickered once before dying completely, plunging the chamber into total darkness.
The purple glow emanating from Louise's body intensified, casting stark shadows across the room, accompanied by a sudden, drastic drop in temperature. Louise's breath turned to white frost in the air.
"Elena, are we there?" Louise whispered, forcing herself to stand.
There was no response.
Louise turned toward the corner. Elena was no longer sitting against the wall. She lay sprawling on the cold iron floor, her body trembling violently.
"Elena!" Louise called out in panic. She took a step closer, but immediately checked herself, remembering the lethal radiation radiating from her body that could harm Elena.
Slowly, Elena raised her face. Louise's heart skipped a beat at the sight. Elena's face was no longer merely coated in soot or ordinary blood.
Her skin had drained to a cadaverous pale, and from her pupils emanated a hauntingly familiar, dim purple luminescence. The veins along Elena's neck bulged black, spider-webbing up into her jawline.
"You liar, Louise," Elena's voice rasped, echoing as if from the depths of a hollow well.
"You said the radiation wouldn't spread if I didn't touch you."
"No... that's impossible." Louise stumbled backward, her legs shaking. "I didn't touch you, Elena. I swear!"
Elena crawled forward. Every time her palms pressed against the iron floor, a gruesome hissing sound echoed. Her flesh began to blister and peel away, exposing muscle tissue pulsing with a vivid purple light.
This was no ordinary contamination; by all visible signs, it was an accelerated, forced mutation.
"Look at what you've done to me!" Elena shrieked, her voice morphing into a distorted, glitching mechanical whine.
"You turned me into a monster! You're no different from those ACVA scientists! You're selfish, Louise! You sacrificed my body just so you wouldn't have to suffer alone!"
The accusation hit Louise harder than any bullet. The buried guilt she had harbored exploded, tearing her sanity to shreds.
She stared at her own purple-glowing hands, then at Elena, who was now writhing in agony on the floor. The flesh of Elena's face began to melt away like burning wax, dripping thick, iridescent purple fluid onto the deck.
Louise's psyche shattered. Ignoring all logic and warnings, she collapsed to her knees and reached out to wrap her arms around Elena;desperate to end her comrade's suffering, even if she knew it might make things infinitely worse.
But the instant Louise's fingers grazed Elena's cheek, the face shattered.
It didn't burst into blood or flesh; instead, it fragmented into thousands of green and black digital pixel blocks. Elena's shrieks instantly dissolved into a deafening roar of radio static.
The freezing elevator chamber began to vibrate violently, its iron walls melting upward and transforming into a torrent of cascading binary code.
Louise gasped, the air catching in her throat. Her eyes widened in utter disbelief as she stared at the empty void where Elena had just been.
An emergency warning flashed in the corner of her vision, projected directly onto her neural retina:
[WARNING: COGNITIVE PARADOX DETECTED]
[NEURAL SIMULACRUM TERMINATED]
With one painful, shuddering gasp, reality crashed back over her.
The cargo lift creaked softly, continuing its steady ascent. The temperature reverted to suffocating heat. The purple radiance from Louise's skin still illuminated the small space.
And in the opposite corner, Elena was staring at her with an expression of deep confusion and concern. Elena's skin was smudged with soot, her arm still bleeding, but there was no purple glow in her eyes. No melting flesh. Elena was completely intact—and entirely human.
"Louise? Are you okay?" Elena asked cautiously, her hand instinctively resting near her sidearm.
"You were just screaming and clutching the empty air for almost two full minutes. And your eyes... they completely glazed over white."
Louise swallowed hard, her body shaking so violently that it discharged faint arcs of static electricity around her. She clutched her knees tighter, trying to process the nightmare she had just lived through.
That was no simple nightmare. It was a Hallucinogenic Synergy.
The God-Blood inside her wasn't merely mutating her physically; it was actively hacking her brain's prefrontal cortex. The substance was weaponizing her deepest, most paralyzing fears, projecting them as sensory illusions completely indistinguishable from reality.
The ACVA didn't even need to send an execution squad to destroy Louise's sanity—her own blood was already doing the job for them.
"I... I'm fine, Elena," Louise rasped out, her voice hollow. She couldn't bring herself to look her comrade in the eye.
"Just... a neural glitch in my head."
Louise confronted a reality far more horrifying than facing a thousand ACVA cleanup units: If she could no longer distinguish between the physical reality in front of her and the illusions spawned by her own veins, how could she ever trust her world again?
The rhythmic thrum of the lift gears began to decelerate. A high-pitched chime echoed throughout the narrow box, signaling their arrival at the surface of Sector 6. The massive iron doors before them hissed open, delivering them straight into the next chapter of an even greater nightmare.

Author's Glossary & Scientific Terms
Cognitive Paradox: A condition where the brain receives sensory information that directly contradicts physical reality, triggering extreme logical confusion and psychological collapse.
Neural Simulacrum: An artificial reality or simulated illusion projected directly into the brain's neural network, feeling so visceral that it physically triggers real bodily reactions (such as sudden extreme cold or intense physical pain).
Hallucinogenic Synergy: A psychological side effect of God-Blood mutation where the foreign substance reacts with the host's traumatic emotions, creating hyper-realistic visual and auditory projections that target the subject's most vulnerable psychological weaknesses.
