They did not summon him immediately.

That was the first sign.

If he had broken a rule, he would have been called at once.

If he had offended Heaven, punishment would have descended.

Instead—

The sect pretended nothing had happened.

Morning drills resumed.

Outer disciples practiced forms.

The kitchens prepared broth.

But every gaze that drifted toward him lingered half a second too long.

Whispers followed in the wake of his steps.

"He spoke to Heaven."

"He refused it."

"No… Heaven asked him."

The words changed each time they passed between lips.

By noon, rumor had already become doctrine.

Inside the main hall, the elders gathered.

No incense burned.

No ceremonial posture was taken.

This was not ritual.

It was risk assessment.

Elder Rui stood at the center.

"State your positions clearly."

Silence.

Then—

Elder Han spoke first.

"If Heaven is willing to question him, that alone makes him destabilizing."

"Destabilizing how?" Rui asked.

"He is no longer beneath the same hierarchy as us."

That statement settled heavily.

Not stronger.

Not superior.

But outside structure.

Another elder frowned.

"He declared he seeks nothing. That is not rebellion."

"No," Elder Han replied softly. "It is independence."

And independence was far more dangerous.

Because loyalty could be negotiated.

Ambition could be guided.

But a man who sought nothing—

Could not be steered.
