Lina looked up at Alexander and quietly asked herself whether his words had made her happy.
The honest answer was yes.
Just a little.
Perhaps more than a little.
But there was no way she was going to say that aloud.
So she looked away and answered stiffly, "No. You weren't wrong."
Alexander said nothing.
He simply looked at her.
Lina lasted a few seconds before the silence became unbearable.
She sighed.
"You can say things like that again if you want. Just... don't say them in front of other people."
Alexander's eyes immediately sharpened with interest.
"So I can say it again in the future?"
Lina froze.
That was not what she had meant.
She had simply been trying to tell him that he had not embarrassed her because of what he said itself. It was the audience that had made it uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, she had apparently handed Alexander exactly the answer he wanted.
She turned her face toward the window.
Her ears were already burning.
Alexander smiled.
