Anahilapataka, Chaulukya Kingdom — 1180 CE
The two men chosen by Arnoraja left Anahilapataka before sunrise, carrying the documents they needed to establish their identity as revenue inspectors. Neither wore a military uniform, and their horses were ordinary enough to attract little attention on the western road. Their instructions were simple: visit Devapala's village, question the local officers, and determine what had happened to the guide after he was sent ahead of Kirtivarma's detachment. They were not to mention Naikidevi or the metal object, and if their enquiries led beyond the district, they were to send word before proceeding farther.
