Chapter 98 - Chapter 98: Learning

"Teacher, we've been doing missions for a week now. Every day it's either finding some lost cat or farming in the fields. What's the point of becoming ninjas then? Even ordinary people can do these things."

Yuhi Kurenai held a large fat cat in her hands as she complained to Hayato Ren.

Hayato Ren raised an eyebrow and looked at Yuhi Kurenai.

"What? Would you prefer cleaning public toilets or piling up farm manure instead?"

Yuhi Kurenai transferred the fat cat to Nohara Rin's hands, then ran up to Hayato Ren while waving her small fists.

"You know perfectly well that's not what I mean! Can't we take on some more challenging missions? I'm embarrassed to be seen doing these D-rank missions every day."

Even Konan, who usually didn't get along with Yuhi Kurenai, nodded in agreement at this moment.

Seeing the three of them united in their complaint, Hayato Ren shook his head and spoke with grave sincerity.

"Your generation is never satisfied. Every ninja starts out this way. Except during wartime."

"What's different during wartime?" Yuhi Kurenai couldn't help asking.

Hayato Ren glanced at her before coldly replying, "During wartime, Genin like you get sent to the front lines as cannon fodder. If one out of ten survives, their family would consider themselves blessed."

Although Hayato Ren was just speaking hypothetically, the chilling implication made Yuhi Kurenai and Nohara Rin shiver involuntarily.

Konan, having actually experienced war herself, wasn't particularly affected by this.

"Alright, since you all feel this way. Come to my house tomorrow at 10 AM."

Hearing this, Yuhi Kurenai immediately forgot her earlier fear and excitedly asked, "Are you going to take us on a C-rank mission?"

Hayato Ren looked at her with a disdainful expression. "You? Don't even talk about fighting enemy ninjas - you might struggle even against a common bandit. Tomorrow I'm taking you for training, so you don't embarrass my name, Hayato Ren, out there."

"Tch, looking down on people again. My Illusionary Arts have reached perfection - how could I possibly lose to a mere bandit?" Yuhi Kurenai muttered under her breath.

Nevertheless, she was quite happy to accept Hayato Ren's decision.

Training was better than doing those troublesome, low-paying D-rank missions every day.

...

"Who is this?" Yuhi Kurenai asked, unable to contain her curiosity as she looked at the beautiful woman beside Hayato Ren.

Although quite confident in her own appearance, compared to the person next to Hayato Ren, Yuhi Kurenai felt for the first time that she was completely outmatched in terms of looks.

On one hand, Mikoto's beauty was exceptional, enhanced by her frequent association with Hayato Ren. On the other hand, Yuhi Kurenai hadn't fully matured yet.

"I recall you specialize in Illusionary Arts, correct?" Hayato Ren asked, avoiding the question entirely.

When it came to her proudest skill, Yuhi Kurenai immediately straightened her small flat chest with pride and nodded vigorously.

Since her father Yuhi Shin Kurenai was a renowned master of Illusionary Arts in the Leaf, having grown up in such an environment, Yuhi Kurenai's Illusionary Arts naturally surpassed those of her peers.

If caught off guard, even a Chunin would likely fall victim to Yuhi Kurenai's illusions.

"I'm not particularly skilled in Illusionary Arts, so I've specially found you a teacher. She is Uchiha Mikoto, acclaimed as the once-in-a-millennium peerless beauty of the Uchiha clan."

Hearing this, Mikoto couldn't help but swat Hayato Ren playfully, complaining:

"What kind of strange title is that? Ren, are you complimenting me or making fun of me?"

"Of course I'm complimenting you. In my eyes, Mikoto, you are the most beautiful woman in history. To earn your affection, I must have saved the world ten times in my past life."

Hayato Ren grabbed Mikoto's hand, speaking with deep emotion.

Even though she knew Hayato Ren was exaggerating, meeting his emotionally charged gaze made Mikoto's heart flutter like a startled deer.

If not for the three little third wheels present, the two might have embraced tightly right then.

Meanwhile, Yuhi Kurenai and the others found themselves force-fed a mouthful of dog food.

"Ugh, what a mushy couple. How annoying."

Yuhi Kurenai crossed her arms, making a disgusted expression.

Konan, having grown accustomed to seeing Hayato Ren, Mikoto, and Kushina shower each other with affection at home, remained unaffected.

Having witnessed it all too often, she felt no ripples in her heart—if anything, she felt somewhat amused.

As for Nohara Rin, she shyly covered her eyes.

"Alright, back to business. Don't let Mikoto's beauty fool you—her strength ranks among the top in the Uchiha clan."

Hayato Ren spoke seriously to Yuhi Kurenai, and beside him, Mikoto cooperatively activated her Three Tomoe Sharingan.

Seeing this, Yuhi Kurenai's expression turned grave.

Although her father excelled in Illusionary Arts, that was among ordinary ninja without Bloodline Limits.

Facing the Uchiha clan with their Sharingan, even Yuhi Shin Kurenai might not fare well.

After all, the Uchiha clan specialized in Fire Release.

Even the title of Hokage and the so-called Will of Fire in the Leaf originated from the Uchiha.

Because neither the First Hokage Hashirama Senju nor the Second Hokage Senju Tobirama were particularly skilled in Fire Release.

So why did Hashirama name the Leaf's highest leader Hokage?

His intentions were as plain as day.

(Uzumaki Mito: As expected, I was the one who came later...)

After Yuhi Kurenai was taken away by Mikoto, Konan also left first to train her Paper Style.

Since Paper Style was a Bloodline Limit never before seen in the Shinobi World, Hayato Ren could offer Konan very little guidance.

Fortunately, Konan was a genius ninja, rapidly advancing her Paper Style through self-exploration alone.

Then, Hayato Ren turned his attention to the only one left on the field—Nohara Rin.

"Rin, you want to learn Medical Ninjutsu, right?"

Hearing this, Nohara Rin immediately showed an expectant expression on her face.

Ever since she learned about Medical Ninjutsu at the Ninja Academy, Rin had long yearned for it.

"Although I'm not very skilled in Illusionary Arts, when it comes to Medical Ninjutsu, if I claim to be second, no ninja would dare claim to be first."
