Chapter 20 - Lessons in Betrayal

Amara drove her car herself this time, though the bodyguard's vehicle followed closely behind. It was because Vero insisted on sitting in the front seat so he could display the box containing his spider.

The boy placed the box in front of him, occasionally playing with it while smiling and asking about the spider's habits.

"Momy, why do spiders make webs for their homes? Why don't they build nests with leaves?" Vero asked.

"Because the web is both their home and their hunting tool, Darling."

"Hunting?" Vero looked slightly confused by the answer. He had thought spiders ate leaves.

"Spiders don't have hands like we do to arrange leaves. They produce silk from their own bodies. The silk is strong and sticky, so besides being a place to live, it's also used to catch food."

"So they eat insects? I thought spiders ate leaves."

Amara let out a soft laugh at her son's innocence.
