Volume One: Sun Be Damned.

Chapter 1: By Law Alone.

~~~ [START]
In an open field of woods, atop an enormous mountain with a waterfall bending beside it. A teen no older than seventeen stood two thousand feet apart from an army of men and women, who were draped in red, white, and black gowns.
"Adrien, my boy." Aro; the leader of the gowned men, spoke. His inner clothes, a shade of black, with his hand holding a large golden chain. "We don't have to take it this far—"
"That's not my name!" The boy cut Aro's words. His torn shirt revealed large, bloodied scars, which were continually bleeding from the chest. With his arms masked by black inked tattoos, covering them whole. "I saw what you did to him; the execution, you fucking promised to keep him safe!"
"Brother." But on the other side, Caius; the second in lead, broke-silence.
Aro slightly lifted an ear to him.
"What use have we to listen to the words of an immortal child?"
"Child?" The boy shouted again, "Is he retarded?!"
Caius's hands clenched under the cloak.
"A halfling." Marcus; another leader who was standing beside them, walked forward. His eyes widened in bloodlust, but his jaw tightened in restraint.
"It's Hybrid," the boy dared to correct.
So, Aro raised both his hands, then tilted his head in a slight bow. "Of course. But you must know by now, Drax's execution was not caused by us. It was simply law."
Then Aro stepped forward, with his army shifting a foot behind, "A law that governs us all, don't you see? Drax was mad, my boy."
The army behind Aro jolted as soon as the boy's body experienced the slightest shift, their growls screaming unevenly.
"So now what?" The boy, whose hands had now extended forward and clenched into fists, said.
A smile crept onto Aro's lips. "Now, you come back with us. Or you stay… but die."
Then laughter broke from the boy's voice, head tilting upward with a hand moving to the gut.
And the frenzy took more than a minute before it stopped. A laugh so long that Aro's smile lasted only for a third before its cut.
"Die?!" The boy's eyes widened, "Me! From what, why?!"
Caius stepped forward, but Aro's hand shot to his arm, halting him.
"This whole fucking world is a vector." The boy turned his eyes to the hundreds in the front. "Earth is literally moving under our feet, so how the fuck can you beat me, how the fuck do you expect me to die!"
Marcus turned his eyes to the left, and Jane, one of the women standing near the three, walked forward.
"Oh no, my boy, we all have our ways." Then silence followed after Aro's voice, replaced by nothing but the small whistles produced by their sparkling skin; a shine caused by the sun rising above them. Yet even then, the boy's face retained its pale.
And a chuckle escaped his lips; he underestimated them.
RUMBLE!
The ground shook below their feet, rocks vibrating under with some of the trees tilting toward tedious dimensions.
"My boy." Aro and his army stood unmoving from the rumble, their clothes and posture still straight. "This is the last warning, come with us."
A second drained, and a sigh ripped from Aro's lips, then he frowned when he gained an ear of the boy's chuckles. "Then, so be it. June, show him your gifts."
She turned to him, and her red eyes sparkled with interest.
The boy raised a brow, watching as her eyes narrowed.
Until suddenly, a pain he had never felt in his life overwhelmed him. Dropping him to the ground and causing screams to seep past his lips.
"Capture him." From the other side, Aro whispered. And in an instant, the hundreds of cloaked men and women vanished, their figures replaced by blurs of wind. Halving the distance between in nothing less than a moment.
But the boy; the one who was lying on the ground, still grunting from the agony overwhelming his veins, turned his eyes upward. Then, with the flicker of a hand, the ground below them split in two. Forming a large, giant gorge that stretched inches too deep.
And dozens of those who were nearing fell to their doom, but the rest launched upward, jumping the newly formed cannon, and proceeding with their assault.
The boy jolted up; now freed from June's power because of the dust that blocked her vision.
Then he turned behind him and started running while manipulating the Vactor produced by his legs to boost the speed of his sprint.
And the ground creaked with each of his steps, so he started stepping less, leaping forward with each stomp to gain a sense of inertia, which at the same time slowed the friction.
His figure zoomed faster than it should have. So he controlled the vector of his body to slow down by turning its velocity toward the opposite direction.
Then there he was, standing, looking down at a cliff, with the water falling under it stretching so deep that even with his enhanced precision, the mist below still obstructed his view.
And when he turned back, hundreds of blurs were fast approaching.
The boy didn't even dare to hesitate. He just lifted his arms, hands clenched in separation, and hovering near his chest.
RUMBLE!
The ground shook at twice the intensity, then it changed to a third.
And before anyone could even notice, before the whole squad of soldiers could reach a foot's length.
The whole cliff was gone; completely vanquished from their sight. Not even masking a decency to announce its departure.
They were too late; the boy was gone.
