Seasoned With Love
Season 3 – Episode 14: "After the Storm"
Amara's POV
The restaurant was quieter the next morning.
Not because business slowed down.
Actually… the opposite.
Every table was full.
But the conversations were softer.
People were watching us.
Curious.
Judging.
Some supportive.
Some skeptical.
Marcus leaned over the counter and whispered to me,
"I feel like we're in a reality show."
Rose walked past with a tray of coffee.
"Welcome to public attention."
I glanced toward the window.
The news vans were gone.
But phones were everywhere.
People recording.
Posting.
Talking.
Luke stepped out of the office just then.
He looked rested.
Which surprised me.
Marcus pointed at him.
"How are you so calm?"
Luke shrugged slightly.
"I slept."
Marcus shook his head.
"I need whatever meditation you're using."
Rose set the coffee tray down.
"The city is split right now."
I looked at her.
"What do you mean?"
She opened her tablet.
"Half the coverage is praising Luke for standing up to corruption."
Marcus smiled.
"That's good."
Rose scrolled.
"The other half says he destroyed jobs."
Marcus frowned.
"That's not good."
Luke nodded.
"Both things can be true."
That answer made the room quiet.
I stepped closer to him.
"You still believe you did the right thing."
Luke looked at me.
"Yes."
Marcus pointed at him again.
"That's the energy we need."
Rose smiled slightly.
"But the investors aren't done."
Luke already knew that.
"No."
Before anyone could say more—
The restaurant door opened again.
Marcus groaned immediately.
"Please tell me that's not another investor."
It wasn't.
It was Carl.
He walked in more calmly this time.
No anger in his eyes.
Just determination.
Luke stepped forward.
"You came back."
Carl nodded.
"Yeah."
Marcus whispered to Rose,
"This is a better vibe."
Rose nodded.
"Much better."
Carl looked around the restaurant.
"You built something good here."
Luke didn't respond to the compliment right away.
Carl continued.
"I thought about what you said."
Luke waited.
Carl crossed his arms.
"You serious about hiring contractors for expansion?"
Marcus perked up instantly.
"Wait… expansion?"
Rose smiled.
"Yes. Expansion."
Luke nodded.
"Yes. We're serious."
Carl studied him for a moment.
"You'd trust someone who just walked in here yelling at you yesterday?"
Luke answered simply.
"Yes."
Carl let out a small laugh.
"You're either very confident… or very stubborn."
Marcus pointed.
"Both."
Rose ignored him.
Carl nodded slowly.
"Alright."
Marcus leaned forward.
"Alright what?"
Carl smiled slightly.
"Let's talk about that construction job."
Rose clapped once.
"Progress."
I glanced at Luke.
"You just turned a confrontation into a partnership."
Luke shrugged slightly.
"It happens."
Marcus laughed.
"No man, that's leadership."
Carl looked around the room again.
"You know… the crews from that project are still scattered around the city."
Luke nodded.
"I figured."
Carl leaned on the counter.
"Some of them might want work."
Rose's eyes lit up.
"That could actually help us scale faster."
Marcus added,
"And rebuild some trust."
Luke nodded slowly.
"That's the idea."
Carl extended his hand.
Luke shook it.
And just like that…
Something good came out of yesterday's chaos.
But the moment didn't last long.
Rose's phone buzzed again.
She looked down.
Then sighed.
Marcus noticed immediately.
"What now?"
Rose turned the screen toward us.
Another article.
New headline.
"Investors Continue Pressure Campaign Against Former Executive Luke Bennett."
Marcus groaned.
"These people never quit."
Luke read the article quickly.
Then handed the phone back.
"What are they saying now?" I asked.
Rose summarized.
"They're pushing the idea that the restaurant can't grow without major financial backing."
Marcus crossed his arms.
"They want control."
Luke nodded.
"Yes."
Carl frowned.
"Sounds like they're trying to box you in."
Marcus added,
"Either take their money… or fail publicly."
Luke looked toward the window.
The street looked calm again.
But we all knew the pressure was still out there.
Waiting.
Rose said quietly,
"They're hoping you eventually say yes."
Luke smiled faintly.
"They're going to be disappointed."
Marcus grinned.
"That's what I like to hear."
Carl chuckled.
"Yeah… I'm starting to see why people follow you."
I looked at Luke.
"You realize something though."
"What?"
"You're not just defending your past anymore."
Luke tilted his head.
"What do you mean?"
I gestured around the restaurant.
"You're defending this."
Marcus nodded.
"The whole place."
Rose added,
"And everyone in it."
Luke looked around the room.
At the staff.
At the customers laughing again.
At Carl already discussing building plans with Marcus.
Then he looked back at me.
"Yes."
And for the first time since Evan walked through that door…
The restaurant felt like it was winning again.
