Season 2 – Episode 21: "When I Walk Toward You"
Amara's POV
I woke up before the sun.
Which was surprising… because Luke is usually the one who wakes up early.
For a second I just lay there staring at the ceiling.
Today.
Today was the day.
I sat up slowly and whispered to myself,
"Okay, Amara… don't panic."
From the other side of the room, Rose's voice came instantly.
"Too late."
I jumped.
"Rose!"
She was sitting in the chair by the window drinking coffee like she had been watching me spiral for five minutes.
"How long have you been awake?"
"Since you sighed dramatically three times."
"I did not sigh dramatically."
"You absolutely did."
I rubbed my face.
"I'm getting married today."
Rose nodded calmly.
"Yes. That is typically what happens on wedding days."
I laughed a little.
"I'm not scared."
"Good."
"I'm… emotional."
"That's normal."
I looked at her.
"Do you think Luke slept?"
Rose burst out laughing.
"No chance."
That actually made me feel better.
Across town
(Luke's side)
Marcus was watching Luke pace.
"Luke."
Luke kept walking.
"Luke."
Still pacing.
"LUKE."
Luke stopped.
"What?"
Marcus folded his arms.
"You're wearing a path into the carpet."
"I'm thinking."
"You've been thinking in circles for twenty minutes."
Luke exhaled.
"I want everything to be right."
Marcus smirked.
"You're marrying Amara. You already won."
Luke looked at him.
"That's not helpful."
"It is helpful."
Luke sat down finally.
"What if something goes wrong?"
Marcus leaned back.
"Something always goes wrong."
Luke stared at him.
"You're terrible at reassurance."
Marcus shrugged.
"But you two are solid."
Luke relaxed slightly.
"That part I know."
Marcus grinned.
"Then stop pacing before you sweat through that suit."
Luke immediately looked concerned.
"…Is that possible?"
Marcus laughed.
"Relax, man."
Back with Amara
Rose was helping with my dress while we talked.
"You're very calm," I told her.
Rose shrugged.
"I've watched this relationship grow from the beginning. I'm not worried."
"That makes one of us."
Rose looked at me in the mirror.
"Amara."
"Yeah?"
"Luke would walk through fire for you."
I smiled softly.
"I know."
"And you'd do the same."
"…Yeah."
She nodded.
"That's marriage."
Just then there was a knock.
My aunt poked her head in.
"It's almost time."
My stomach flipped again.
Rose noticed immediately.
"Oh boy."
I laughed nervously.
"Okay… okay… I'm fine."
Rose grabbed my hands.
"Breathe."
"I am breathing."
"Not like that."
We both laughed.
Then she said something quieter.
"You ready to walk toward him?"
I thought about Luke standing there waiting.
Always steady.
Always choosing me.
"Yes."
"I'm ready."
The Ceremony
The music started.
Guests stood.
The doors opened.
And there he was.
Luke.
Standing at the front.
The second he saw me, his entire expression changed.
Like the world got quieter.
Like everything made sense.
As I started walking down the aisle, I could see him trying very hard not to cry.
I whispered under my breath,
"Rose was right."
Halfway down the aisle, something unexpected happened.
One of the flower arrangements tipped over.
A little kid bumped it.
Flowers spilled slightly onto the aisle.
The entire crowd gasped softly.
I stopped.
Luke looked concerned for about half a second.
Then he did something very Luke.
He stepped down from the front, picked up the arrangement, set it back in place, and held out his hand.
The guests laughed gently.
And honestly?
It made the moment better.
When I reached him, I whispered,
"Controlled chaos."
Luke smiled.
"Apparently."
The officiant chuckled.
"Well, that was memorable."
Luke leaned closer and murmured,
"I told you something unpredictable might happen."
I whispered back,
"And we handled it."
The Vows
When it was Luke's turn, the room got very quiet.
He looked at me like he had something important to say.
"Amara," he began, "before I met you, Luke built things alone."
I felt my chest tighten already.
"I thought success meant control. Strategy. Distance."
He shook his head slightly.
"But Amara changed that."
Rose sniffed loudly somewhere in the crowd.
Luke smiled briefly.
"You taught me that building something with someone is stronger."
He squeezed my hands gently.
"I promise to talk with you when things are hard."
"I promise to listen when Amara needs space."
"I promise to choose us — every day."
My eyes were definitely watering now.
Then it was my turn.
I took a breath.
"Luke," I said softly, "when I met you, I thought you were impossible."
The guests laughed.
Luke nodded.
"Fair."
"But then I saw the real Luke."
I stepped closer.
"The man who protects people quietly."
"The man who shows up."
"The man who stays in the conversation."
Rose clapped softly.
"I promise to build a life with you, not just stand beside you."
"And I promise that Amara will always choose Luke."
The officiant smiled.
"Well… that might be the easiest decision I've seen all year."
The ceremony continued.
And finally—
"By the power vested in me…"
Luke's hand tightened slightly.
"You may kiss."
Luke didn't rush.
He looked at me first.
Just for a moment.
Like he wanted to remember it.
Then he kissed me.
The crowd erupted in applause.
Marcus shouted,
"FINALLY!"
Everyone laughed.
Later That Night
The reception had calmed down.
Music softer now.
Lights warm.
Luke and I stepped outside for a moment of quiet.
He looked at me like he still couldn't believe it.
"So…"
"So?"
"Mrs. Bennett."
I smiled.
"You're adjusting quickly."
Luke grinned.
"I've been waiting to say that."
We stood there for a moment.
Then he said something thoughtful.
"You know the funny part?"
"What?"
"The wedding wasn't perfect."
I laughed.
"There were flowers on the floor."
"And Marcus almost gave a speech we did not approve."
"That too."
Luke looked at me warmly.
"But it felt right."
I nodded.
"Because it was real."
He squeezed my hand.
"Amara."
"Yes?"
"I think this is the best thing Luke ever built."
I smiled.
"Good."
