Chapter 29 - Seasoned with Love

Seasoned With Love

Season 2 – Episode 20: "The Night Before We Promise"

Amara's POV

The rehearsal dinner was supposed to be simple.

That was the plan.

Small group.

Close friends.

Family.

No chaos.

Which, if you know Luke and Amara at this point… already sounds unrealistic.

The restaurant was closed to the public tonight. Candles lined the long tables, soft music played in the background, and the kitchen smelled like everything comforting we'd ever cooked here.

Luke stood near the bar adjusting his jacket like he was preparing for a board meeting instead of dinner.

Rose noticed immediately.

She leaned toward me.

"Is Luke nervous?"

I smiled.

"Luke doesn't get nervous."

Right on cue, Luke tugged his collar again.

Rose smirked.

"Sure."

I walked over to him.

"Luke."

He looked relieved the second he saw me.

"You look beautiful."

I laughed softly.

"It's a rehearsal dinner, not the wedding."

"I know. Still true."

I studied him for a moment.

"You're pacing."

"I'm not pacing."

"You've walked from that wall to the bar five times."

Luke paused.

"…Strategic movement."

I laughed.

"Luke."

He exhaled slowly.

"Okay, maybe I'm a little nervous."

"There it is."

He leaned closer.

"I want tonight to feel right."

"It already does."

He glanced around the room.

Rose was setting up glasses. Marcus was arguing with the caterer about appetizers. My aunt was already telling stories too loudly.

Luke shook his head slightly.

"Your family arrived early."

"They always do."

"I'm realizing something."

"What?"

"The wedding might actually be the calm part."

I grinned.

"You're learning."

Guests started filling the room soon after that. The laughter grew louder, glasses clinked, and slowly the nerves began melting into warmth.

But I could still feel Luke watching everything.

Protecting the moment.

Rose eventually stood up and tapped a spoon against her glass.

"Oh no," Luke muttered.

I smiled.

"Here we go."

Rose raised her glass.

"I would like to say a few words about Luke and Amara."

Luke sighed.

"Of course you would."

Rose pointed at him.

"Luke, you are not allowed to interrupt my speech."

He lifted his hands.

"I would never."

Rose grinned.

"First of all… I met Amara before Luke even realized he was falling for her."

I laughed.

"That's not true."

"It absolutely is."

The room chuckled.

Rose continued.

"I watched these two fight, build, argue about menus, argue about finances, argue about seating charts…"

Marcus shouted from across the table,

"Still arguing!"

Rose nodded.

"Yes. But here's the thing."

She looked at us both seriously now.

"They never walked away from the table."

Luke glanced at me.

Rose continued,

"That's rare. People say love is passion, or chemistry, or big dramatic moments."

She shook her head.

"Love is staying in the conversation."

The room got quiet.

"And Luke," she added, looking directly at him, "you changed more than you realize."

Luke blinked slightly.

"Rose—"

"I'm not done."

Everyone laughed.

She softened.

"You became the kind of man who builds something with someone, not just for yourself."

Luke looked genuinely moved now.

Then Rose smiled.

"And Amara… you made him better."

I felt my throat tighten a little.

Luke reached for my hand under the table.

Rose raised her glass.

"To Luke and Amara."

Everyone joined in.

"To Luke and Amara!"

We clinked glasses, and for a while the dinner turned into stories and laughter.

But later that night…

After most people had left…

It was quiet again.

Luke and I stood in the dining room alone, candles still burning low.

I leaned against the table.

"Well."

"Well," he echoed.

"Tomorrow we get married."

"Yes."

He looked at me for a long moment.

Then he said,

"There's something I want to show you."

That sentence immediately caught my attention.

"What is it?"

He hesitated slightly.

Which was unusual for Luke.

"Come with me."

We stepped outside.

The night air was cool, the street calm, the city quieter than usual.

Luke led me down the block.

Not far.

Just around the corner.

Then he stopped.

I looked up.

And froze.

It was the building next to the restaurant.

The one that had been empty for months.

But now…

The lights were on inside.

Renovation had already started.

I turned to him slowly.

"Luke…"

He looked a little nervous now.

"I wanted to surprise Amara after the wedding… but after everything with my father, I realized something."

"What?"

"We build our future together."

I looked back at the building.

"What is this?"

Luke smiled.

"Our next step."

I blinked.

"You bought the building?"

"Yes."

My jaw dropped slightly.

"Luke!"

He laughed softly.

"Before you panic, listen."

"I'm listening."

"This isn't just expansion."

He pointed toward the space.

"A community kitchen. Training program. Space for new chefs who don't have the money to start."

I stared at him.

"You planned all this?"

"With you in mind."

My voice softened.

"Luke…"

"I know how much this place means to you. And I know success isn't just about growing bigger."

He looked at me the way he always does when he's being completely honest.

"It's about helping other people build something too."

I felt emotional now.

"You didn't have to do this."

"I wanted to."

I stepped closer to him.

"You're full of surprises."

"There's one more."

I narrowed my eyes slightly.

"That worries me."

Luke laughed.

"Relax."

"What is it?"

He took my hands.

"Tomorrow when Amara walks down that aisle…"

"Yes?"

"I'm not just marrying the woman I love."

My heart was already racing.

"I'm marrying my partner."

I smiled.

"And Luke is stuck with me."

He grinned.

"Happily."

We stood there for a moment, looking at the future we hadn't even stepped into yet.

Then Luke said something quietly.

"You ready for tomorrow?"

I thought about everything we'd been through.

The pressure.

The tests.

The growth.

Then I answered honestly.

"Yes."

Luke nodded.

"Good."

Because tomorrow…

Luke and Amara would stop planning the life.

And start living it.
