Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

(Adrian)

I step out of the car and help my mother hoist Russell's unconscious body out of the car. I unbuckled him and hoisted him over my shoulder with relative ease.

"How are you doing that?" My mother asked, looking at me with bewilderment, considering I'm not very athletic.

"Let's just get inside, quickly" I look over my shoulder still worried about that moose looking monster. My mother actually listens to me and we rush into the hospital.

As we clear the door we are met with the sight of a hundred or so people crowding the hospital waiting room. Each person looked way worse off than Russell was.

"I'm going to go check in, find somewhere to wait" My Mother says as she begins to push deeper into the crowd of people.

There's no use in trying to check in, Russell's not in nearly bad enough shape to be high up on their list of priorities. I scan the room and see the aftermath of the massacre I was watching earlier.

Men and Women with their clothes soaked in blood from their and other people's wounds. Almost every person in the waiting room has some sort of bandage on them.

As I look at the other people in the waiting room my stepdad regains some consciousness.

"Where are we? Where's your mother?" Russell asked, he tried to sit up but he seized up with pain and laid back down.

"She's up there checking you in" I tell him as he struggles trying to move around. I stand up and walk towards the automatic glass doors.

I can still hear the sound of the moose creature screaming in pain in the distance. As I watch the outside I spot a man limping towards the hospital. The man is shirtless and wearing bright red jeans.

When I lay eyes upon the man my stomach drops and I start getting a headache. The headache goes away as the man inches closer to the hospital. I don't know why but I get a weird feeling when I look at the man.

As the man reaches the parking lot his limp fades and he begins walking towards the door of the hospital. Feeling like something bad would happen if he got into the hospital I step outside.

"Hey there man, you good?" I ask watching him walk closer and closer. Without replying to me. I pick up a stray newspaper that had been blowing in the wind.

I write the same symbol I wrote on the car window on the piece of paper. Seeing me do this the man stops in his tracks and stares me in the eyes.

"Get out of my way, I need these humans more than you" The man croaks.

"What do you mean you need humans?" I ask as I ready the newspaper at my side expecting the man to try something.

The man cocks his head to the side and scowls at me with disgust and unfounded hatred in his eyes.

"You're not a shard, you're just a human" The man angrily croaks as he lunges towards me with surprising speed. I'm unable to react and I am hit in the chest and thrown through the glass doors.

I land in the crowd of people who at my arrival start to panic and run every which way in terror. I spot my mother and stepdad at the front desk. She had convinced a security guard to carry him up there for some reason.

I try to quickly recover but I am grabbed by the throat by the man. He holds me high in the air and begins to try and choke the life out of me.

"Most humans would be dead after that, your special, too bad" The man says as he attempts to snap my neck with his hand.

Thankfully I was able to hold onto the newspaper as he threw me, I ball the newspaper in my hand and punch him with it before he can snap my neck. When the newspaper touches his skin it lets out a giant burst of fire.

The mans eyes widen in shock as the flames engulf him and he is forced to drop me. He lets out a guttural scream and recoils from me, he rapidly attempts to put out the fire covering him.

I search the floor for another piece of paper to write another symbol on. I find a torn and bloodied shirt on the floor, I bite my pointer finger again and quickly inscribe the fire symbol on the shirt.

I throw the shirt at the man and he is hit by another blast of fire. He lets out another scream before locking eyes with me. He looks at me with an indescribable anger in his eyes, after that he bolted out of the door using the same speed he attacked me with.

Exerted from using multiple symbols in a short time I fall to the ground exhausted and hurting from where the man was strangling me.

(Cassandra)

After passing out Cassandra is lifted from the ground as sucked into the storm that blew her door open and threw her against her wall. The clouds formed into a giant storm that caused havoc over the town where she lived.

Cassandra was sucked into the storm and as her unconscious body was getting tossed around like a rag doll an orange light hit the storm and it was forcefully dissipated.

"So much work for so little results" The voice that had been talking to Cassandra spoke to her unconscious mind as it intervened to save her from dying to the storm.

I wake up on the cold hard asphalt of some random driveway. I lift my head up and look around at the houses that surround me.

I find myself in a neighborhood that's not too far from my house. The only reason I could tell is a faded Stop sign that I see every time I drive by with my parents.

I stand up to find that my legs are no longer feeling like jelly. I stand up and began walking back in the direction of my house.

As I begin my walk back home I can see the residents of this neighborhood getting in their cars and leaving as fast a possible. Somebody even drives into a tree after swerving out of the way of another car. The people in the car stumbled out of the car perfectly fine.

I continue walking towards my house as more people flee the town while others decide to hunker down and wait for whatever is going on to pass.

I can understand where they're coming from, if that thing hadn't made me into a Blade or whatever I might have done the same. But now all I feel like doing is walking East.

I turn down my street and walk towards my house. My parents have been out of town on vacation in Brazil for a week already, they've postponed it for another week which I figured was weird for a vacation but I didn't say anything.

As I near my house I hear that same rumbling from earlier. This time I turn to look at the source of the noise. What I thought was the storm reappearing was really a bolt of lighting hitting a building in the distance.

As the lighting bolt strikes a shockwave radiates from that direction causing house and car alarms to sound. I turn away and enter my house before I'm hit with a bolt of lighting, which would be just my luck.

I enter through my now broken door which is now hanging halfway off the hinges. The living room is a mess with furniture and other crap thrown around everywhere. I hadn't noticed from the outside but the windows had also been broken by the storm.

Ugh, I really hope this is the apocalypse or I'm going to get yelled at by my parents for "letting" this happen to the house. I walk up to the living room closet and rummage through it looking for my fathers crowbar. He always kept one in the house instead of a bat for home defense.

I find it deep in the back of the closet next to an old guitar and some dusty dumbbells from when he tried to be a body builder when he was younger. I grab the crowbar from the back of the closet and set it on my upturned couch.

After finding the crowbar I walk back upstairs and start looking for a backpack or something of the sort. I briefly think about strapping a suitcase to my back with some rope but decide that wouldn't be a good idea.

I spend minutes looking for a backpack before I give up and decide to just go to a store and steal or buy one.

I walk back down stairs and grab the crowbar from the couch. I decide to just hold it until I could find a backpack. I walk out of my house and watch as another lightning bolt hits a house in the distance causing another shockwave.

I decide to take the risk and leave my house in the direction of the town plaza which will probably have a place where I can find a backpack. If anything I could travel even farther to reach the mall.

(Adrian)

I sit in a hospital bed next to my stepfather, and my mom was able to scheme her way into getting him a room. Even though he clearly didn't need one, he was literally sitting there eating a bag of peanuts while other people bleed out in the hallways.

I'm still exhausted from my fight with the man who attacked me. I slump in the chair and close my eyes as my mother and stepfather chat away with each other.

"Hello Adrian"

I find myself back in the space with the voice. I look around to try and catch a glimpse of whatever keeps pulling me here. I sigh as I realize it's useless.

"Are you not going to speak with me?" The voice asks me.

"I have no choice. What do you want?" I ask, sitting down in the dark space.

"You are my Preacher, you are the only human who can sustain a conversation with me. Besides that I want to know how you felt using my language for the first time"

"Your language? You mean those symbols you forced into my mind" I ask.

"Yes. What I put into your mind is the language I speak, and if I had a small enough physical body I would write and read it as well"

"What are you? Why am I your 'Preacher' and what the hell does that even mean"

"I am beyond everything your kind knows. Among those who witnessed my rebirth you were simply the best candidate for my Preacher. As to what being my Preacher entails, You Adrian Victus are to bring unity to your planet and your people by stabilizing your planet and allowing me to be reborn into a smaller physical form"

"I witnessed your rebirth? Also how does allowing you to be reborn into a small form bring unity to the planet?"

"It's simple, when I take on my small form I shall retract my fragmentations and bring order to this planet by force"

"I know I'm asking a bunch of questions but you're just causing more of them. What is a fragmentation and what do you mean force?" I ask angrily

"When I broke from my shell fragments of my form fell to your planet and are now using your planet as a playground, the thing that attacked you was no man, it was one of my fragments taking the form of a human. And as to what I mean by force, I mean I shall destroy what needs to be destroyed and I shall do whatever it takes to make this planet into a paradise"

"That explains why that guy was so strong and fast. So what is it I'm supposed to do to allow your rebirth into your smaller physical form?"

"When I went through my rebirth I made a couple temples that would allow my rebirth into my smaller form. I also put one of my fragments in charge of activating those temples, though It was killed on the fall to your planet"

"Do you know where the temples are?"

"I am aware of the location of three of the five temples in made. Two in the nation you call the United States, One in what you call Australia. I lot track on the other two on the fall, though you should be able to locate them"

"Ugh, so I'm going to go across the planet activating these temples of yours, and for what, what do I get for this"

"A life in Paradise, beside me and whatever else you desire once your done with your task"

""Fine. So where are the two temples here in the States"

"California and Virginia"

"That shouldn't be too hard. The one in Australia is going to be super hard to get to"

"Regretfully you and I must cease our conversation before you can no longer take the mental weight of our conversation"

In the blink of an eye I am back in the chair next to my stepfather's hospital bed. I look at the clock and notice that only a couple of minutes have gone by, though the conversation felt so much longer.

I turn my eyes towards Russell and my mother who are still talking to each other. I roll my eyes and stand up from the chair.

"I'm going to go get a soda" I tell them. I am dismissively waived off by my mother and I walk out of the room. I look around the wall looking for a vending machine.
