Chapter 1 - Chapter One

"Adrian Victus. You shall rise as my vassal on the human plane, you shall be my Preacher and bring unity to your world"

"W-what! Where am I? What is this?" Adrian began to look around frantically as a voice boomed in his head. He gripped his head as he stood in the darkness of wherever he found himself.

"You shall rise as my Preacher and bring unity. Agree"

"What are you talking about? Who are you?" Adrian asked into the darkness as he held his head in pain as the voice steadily became married.

"AGREE!"

"Wha-" Adrian fell to his knees as the volume of the voice in his head spiked to an unbearable level.

"I DEMAND THAT YOU AGREE"

"Fine! Fine! I agree to whatever the hell you're talking about, just stop the pain!" Adrian has the feeling that if he denied the voice his head would explode, or that's what it felt like.

"Adrian Victus, stand as my Preacher and stand tall!"

The voice boomed one final time as Adrian finally snapped back to reality.

(Adrian)

I awake on the cold hard wood of my stepfather Randall's sundeck. Not only do I feel the cold of the wood I also feel the warm sticky heat of the blood trickling down from my eyes.

I quickly wipe my face and stare at the dark red blood staining my hand and the dark brown varnish of the wood. Strangely I don't feel any kind of pain coming from my eyes.

I push myself to my feet and brace my wobbly legs against the railing of the sundeck. I look out towards the sky and lay my eyes upon the now dark orange clouds blanketing the sky hiding the sun from view. I stare in bewilderment as the last thing I remember is coming out here around the time of 2:00 in the afternoon and staring at something going on with the sun.

My eyes drift from the sky down towards the town below. As I look at the town I am quickly thrown back by a burst of concentrated sound that sends me back 12 feet into a wall. Not only does the burst throw me back it also breaks the windows around the sundeck.

The pain of slamming into the brick wall should have been agonizing but I could barely feel it.

I quickly stand and walk back up to the railing curious as to what caused that burst of sound. I lean against the railing and search the town below for what could have caused the burst. I quickly spot a horde of men and women clambering over each other in a panic.

I spot the cause of the panic as a horned creature that sort of resembled a disfigured moose that was throwing grown men in back hundreds of feet by hitting them with a concentrated burst of sound just like the one that hit me.

As I watch in horror at the massacre happening in the town I am pulled away by the sound of something going on inside the house. I quickly turn around and wobble my way back into the house through the now broken wooden door.

"Mom! Russell!" I call into the house as my eyes adjust to the change of light and I am temporarily blinded.

"Adrian! Get over here and help me!" I hear my mother scream at me from somewhere in the kitchen I assume.

My vision clears to where I can see my mother kneeling next to my unconscious stepfather. My stepdad Russell lays on the floor with blood continuing to pour from his eyes and ears.

"Help me get him into the car, we need to get him to a hospital" My mother said trying to pick him up from the arms.

"We can't, there's something in town" I wobble closer to my mother and Russell as she continues to try and haul my stepdad.

"What? Stop talking nonsense and help me get him to the car!" My mom yelled at me as she struggled to hold Russell by his arms.

I sigh and grab Russell's legs and pick him up surprisingly effortlessly, considering my condition. With my help my mother is able to support his upper half and begin walking towards the door.

On the way to the door I see my stepdads satchel, aka a glorified man purse on the counter and decide to grab it.

"Mom, you need to listen to me, there is something in town that is killing people" I try to convince my mother to not take Russell into the town.

"Adrian, stop talking nonsense, there is nothing in town. You probably hit your head during the earthquake, which is even more of a reason to go to the hospital"

"Mom-"

"No! Stop talking and help me get him buckled" My mother snaps as we make it to the car.

I reluctantly buckle Russell into the car and try one last time to convince my mother to not drive into town.

"Mom, there is a perfectly fine hospital in Lewiston" I plead with my mother as she continues to get into the car.

"I'm not driving all that way just because you have a concussion, now get in the car"

"Mom you need to listen to me" I plead even though I know I'm going to end up getting in the back of the car.

"No! I will hear no more of this! Get in the car, Now!"

(Cassandra)

"Rise blade of the prophet. Rise and assume the greatness you deserve"

"Huh? Where am I?" Cassandra looks around her to see the inky black darkness that surrounds her.

"You have been chosen to be the blade that accompanies my prophet on his pilgrimage"

"Pilgrimage? Blade? Can I get some explanation here!" Cassandra yelled into the darkness that surrounded her.

"You shall act as the blade to my prophet, Adrian"

"Do I have a choice?" Cassandra asks the voice.

"Accept or deny, either way you will serve a purpose, one of those purposes is more favorable than the other"

Cassandra stood in thought as the darkness around her became even darker or so it seemed.

"I guess I have no other choice than to accept"

"Cassandra Bolton Rise! As the preacher's blade!"

My eyes open as I found myself back in my chair facing towards the window where I could see the now "broken" sun. The sun was no longer whole instead it was now fractured with an orange shape now protruding from the side.

As I stared upon the now fractured sun I could see the clouds that sparsely dotted the sky begin to move towards the same spot in the sky.

I quickly figured out that whatever those clouds were about to do was not going to be favorable to me or anybody else in my town.

I attempt to stand but I quickly fall back into the chair as my legs feel like jelly. As there is nothing else I can do I watch the clouds converge into a single place in the sky not too far from my house.

I once again try to stand, this time I am able to steady myself using my desk. I then hug the wall and walk towards my door. Before I can reach my door I am met with the horrible rumbling of whatever was happening in the sky.

I refuse to turn around and stumble out of my room catching myself on the railing of my stairs. As I lean my weight against the railing the railing bends against my force and breaks causing me to fall forward and tumble down my stairs.

I am surprised by the fact that falling down the stairs wasn't that painful, then I realize after what has happened in the last few minutes that this probably isn't that weird.

I stand from the ground using the wall as leverage. Despite just falling I am able to start walking sort of normally again. I shamble towards the front door and am quickly thrown back as my door blows open by a gust of wind.

I feel a pain on the back of my head as my vision starts to get blurry and I pass out. The last thing I feel before I completely pass out is the feeling of my body beginning to float off the ground.

(Adrian)

I sit in the back of the car, my nerves wracking as I anxiously watch out my window for the moose creature I saw rampaging across town.

My mother speeds through the town committing several driving violations in an attempt to get to the hospital slightly faster. My eyes scan the town and catch the sight of something rushing the car from a nearby alley.

Before I can fully react to what is happening the car is pushed into another lane by a burst of air. The moose like creature chases after us at an astonishing speed

My mother now realized I was telling the truth about the monster that was rampaging across the town.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!" My mother screamed, taking her entire attention off the road.

"Keep your eyes on the road!" I yell as I turn in my seat to look at the giant moose creature bolting at us from behind. I could tell by the creature's pace that it was just playing with us, it could easily catch us and massacre us like those people in the street.

As I watch the creature my mind suddenly went somewhere else. I was back in the place where my head almost exploded.

"Aiden Victus"

"This again? Didn't I already agree to whatever you were talking about?" I ask angrily.

"You did. And now you may reap the rewards of your choice. I bestow upon you the power of my preacher"

Before I could react a burning hot feeling struck my head as strange letters, numbers, words, and sounds entered my head in a burst of knowledge.

"Take my blessings and thrive. Fulfil your purpose to me and bring unity to your world and grant me my destiny"

In a second I am filled with knowledge, most of it gibberish to me but some of them correlated to words I knew.

I knew what I could do. I put my pointer finger in my mouth and chomped down with a force I had no idea I could produce. My finger began to bush blood as I began to make a symbol on the back window of the car.

To my knowledge the symbol correlated to no letter in the English alphabet. As I put the symbol on the back window the car began to shake and a burst of heat burnt up the back window of the car and then it hit the giant moose creature causing it to burst into flames.

"What is happening!" My mother yelled as she tried to keep her eyes on the road.

"Just keep driving!" I yelled back as I watched the moose creature turn and run into a nearby alley letting out a haunting noise as it burned.

I slumped down into my seat and looked out the front window to see the clouds start forming a weird formation near the far end of town near the highway.

"We're here! Help me get him inside!" My mother said speeding into the hospital parking lot which was full of other messily parked cars.

I let out a small sigh as I realize something is probably going to happen that is not going to end well.
