That night, I couldn't sleep. Not after what Iris had told me.
My mother hid me from my father.
The words had followed me out of her room and into mine. They had followed me through the corridors, into the council chamber, and now they sat heavily on my desk while the rest of the pack slept.
I stared at the papers in front of me without reading a single word.
Her father.
Who was he? Why had her mother been afraid of him? And why had she hidden Iris among wolves?
There were too many questions. Too many things about Iris that didn't fit together.
The visions, her strange speed, the flowers and the healing. And now the thing that bothered me most.
Her blood.
I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes. My wolf stirred.
She is ours.
"I know."
She needs us to protect her, my wolf insisted.
