Pelican Town's residents didn't seem unwelcoming at all, and everyone here was very kind.
He arrived at the town center. The first thing that caught his eye was a small clinic and Pierre's General Store.
Walking to the general store entrance, there was also a bulletin board nearby and a calendar.
Inside the general store, you could buy some tools and seeds.
However, he didn't know what these things were for yet, so he didn't spend money recklessly. He only had 500 cropper coins and couldn't afford to spend them recklessly.
At the general store, he met a very pretty girl. Her name was Abigail, the store owner's daughter.
"I heard you're the new farmer who moved to town!"
"Yep, that's me."
"Kind of a shame, actually. I always loved exploring that overgrown farm by myself."
"Ah... haha!"
Carter scratched his head, his face slightly flushed. Aside from Vivian, he rarely interacted with other girls.
This quirky girl greeted him, then left.
Carter looked around the general store some more, discovering he could buy a bigger backpack from Pierre.
But even the cheapest one cost 2,000, which was way too expensive. He couldn't afford it yet.
So he wandered around some more.
Eventually, he ended up at the town's south side, a beach, where he picked up a shell.
Then he left town, circling around the south.
On his way, he passed a large ranch with many animals inside.
West of the ranch was a massive forest.
He'd originally wanted to explore, but it was getting dark soon, so he gave up. Though heading north, he could already see the farm's silhouette.
Might as well clear scattered rocks and weeds while heading home.
Darkness fell quickly. Carter had clearly overestimated himself.
Since morning, he'd already consumed lots of stamina. Now, while breaking rocks, he suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion and hunger.
His energy bar had bottomed out.
His vision blurred, then he collapsed.
Year 1, Spring, Tuesday, Day 2
Opening his eyes again, he'd woken up in the cabin.
Turns out characters had energy bars. When energy is depleted, you'd enter an exhausted state and collapse directly.
He walked out of the cabin. A letter appeared in the mailbox beside him.
"You're lucky I found you last night! You were completely out of it. Be more careful!"
-Linus
'So he'd been discovered by a kind resident and sent home.'
Another letter was in the mailbox. He opened it directly.
Hey there,
Just got back from fishing. You should come down to the beach sometime.
I've got something for you.
Willy
He knew the beach; he'd been there yesterday while wandering around. Just south of Pelican Town.
So he hurriedly watered the parsnips. Just one day passed, and the parsnip seeds had already sprouted.
After watering, he immediately headed to the beach.
On Pelican Town's southern coast was a dock. On the dock stood a fish shop.
"Hey there, kid."
"Heard a new farmer moved to town... finally get to meet you."
"Ah... I'm still unwinding. Been out at sea for a whole month before. What a haul that was! Sold lots of fish, finally scraped together enough money to buy a new fishing rod."
"Here, you can have this old rod."
"The most important thing is keeping the fishing tradition alive. Maybe after you develop an interest, you'll patronize my shop too."
You received [Bamboo Pole]
"The water here's good, there's all sorts of fish."
"Oh, right, my shop's open for business again. Come find me anytime you need something."
"You can sell your catches to me."
As an extremely classic casual mechanic, fishing appeared in tons of games in Alto's previous life.
But here, it was completely new.
Carter was somewhat surprised, definitely not expecting that you could fish.
The bamboo pole's craftsmanship was extremely crude, with a fake bait on the hook. Could this thing actually catch fish? He was somewhat doubtful.
He tried casting into the water.
After a while, the bobber suddenly sank.
His eyes lit up, felt like a fish took the bait!
Set the hook!
A progress bar appeared before his eyes.
He still didn't understand what was happening. The fish on the progress bar jumped up and down chaotically, then immediately unhooked.
Again!
Soon, another prompt that a fish bit. This time, he wasn't flustered.
Set the hook. Observe carefully.
He discovered that when reeling in, the green fishing bar would jump up. When letting out the line, it would drop. As long as he kept the fish maintained in the fishing bar's middle, the fishing value would rise. Otherwise, it'd drop.
This time, he somewhat understood how to play, though his control was frantic. But the fish still got away.
He didn't get discouraged and continued.
Here it comes!
After waiting quite a while, the rod suddenly dipped.
He hastily pulled the rod.
Reel in... let out... reel...
The fishing line suddenly tightened, and the fish icon on the progress bar rapidly jumped up.
"Damn, so close!" Feeling somewhat hooked now.
"Again! I refuse to believe this!"
At first, he wasn't very familiar, but this time, he gradually found the feeling.
No way he'd get skunked today.
Another bout of waiting. Great! Another one came!
He hastily reeled in.
This hooked fish didn't seem very active. Carter was overjoyed, focusing on controlling the rod.
Finally, hard work paid off.
Congratulations! You caught [Sardine] - Length: 5cm
"Hahaha... nice!" Though just a small fish, he felt a deep sense of accomplishment.
He looked at the sardine in his hand, opening the info.
[Sardine]
A common ocean fish.
+13 Energy
+5 Health
Eating it could even increase health and energy. He was excited and put the fish back inside his inventory, then continued fishing.
Cast line... reel in... cast line...
A treasure chest even appeared midway, but unfortunately, he didn't catch it. Filling him deeply with regret.
He ended up completely immersing himself, not noticing how time quickly passed.
Soon it got dark.
He was startled. Good grief, another day passed in the blink of an eye.
Tallying the haul: four sardines, two flounders, one herring, plus one sardine was a better quality silver star. The rest was seaweed and some useless garbage.
He glanced over, discovering Willy's fish shop had closed.
So he hurriedly packed things up, preparing to go home. He definitely didn't want to sleep outside again.
Fortunately, Pelican Town wasn't very big, so getting lost was nigh impossible
Street lamps had already lit up. By their dim light, he quickly returned home.
Though he'd done nothing but fish at the beach all day, he felt extremely happy.
He looked at a wooden box beside the house.
"This should be the shipping bin, right? On day one, Mayor Lewis mentioned it."
So he put all the fish and useless stuff on him into the shipping bin.
Soon, day three started.
Ding!
