Victor stopped one of the passing staff members.
"Have you seen Maya?"
The servant paused, thinking. "I believe Miss Maya stepped out earlier, Young Master. She said she had something personal to take care of before her family arrived."
Victor frowned. "Stepped out? Where?"
"I'm not certain. She didn't say."
Victor's frown deepened. He pulled out his phone and checked for messages. There was nothing from Maya—no text, no call, no explanation. That was unusual. Maya was many things, but she was not careless about communication, especially on a day like this.
He dialed her number and waited.
The call rang several times before going to voicemail.
Victor lowered the phone, his unease growing. He tried again, with the same result.
He walked toward the main entrance, his steps quickening. One of the senior staff members was standing near the door, reviewing a list of arrivals for the next day.
"Where is Maya?" Victor asked, his voice sharper than he intended.
