No one answered.
The door at the front of the room opened, and everyone turned.
A man stepped inside. He was tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in dark clothing that revealed nothing about his affiliation. His face was hard, his eyes cold, and he looked at the Winters family as though they were insects beneath his notice.
"Good afternoon," he said, his voice flat. "I trust you've all been made comfortable."
"Who are you?" Richard demanded.
The man ignored the question. He walked to the center of the room and stood there, his hands clasped behind his back.
"You are here because someone wanted you here," he said. "What happens next depends entirely on how cooperative you are."
"Cooperative with what?" Thomas asked angrily. "You haven't told us anything."
The man looked at him, unimpressed. "You will be told what you need to know when you need to know it. For now, you will sit quietly and wait."
"And if we don't?" Luna demanded.
The man's expression did not change.
