A small hand slipped into hers.
Dakota lowered her gaze to find Takoda standing beside her, while Cooper remained close to his sister, his little fingers curled around the edge of Dakota's dress. Both children had followed her to the window, apparently just as interested in their father's departure as she was.
"Mom," Takoda began, looking up at her, "is everything okay?"
Dakota turned from the window and crouched slightly to meet her daughter's eyes. "Of course, sweetheart. Why do you ask?"
"Because Dad left without telling us where he was going." Takoda glanced toward Cooper, who nodded in agreement. "Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing is wrong." Dakota brushed a strand of hair away from her daughter's face before turning to Cooper, who was watching her carefully. "Your father has some work to take care of. He had to leave for the office."
"Now?" Takoda asked, her eyes widening slightly. "But he was here a moment ago."
