My mother, Lunar I loved her, but the woman had a way of finding trouble while just breathing. I could tell that she knew something or was hiding something.
"Charlene" My father's impatient voice snapped her out of her thoughts as she jumped in surprise. My father despite his anger softened at his mate's distress and moved his arms to comfort her but then dropped them and turned to his seat again.
I respected that. Despite knowing that she most likely did something he was still willing to protect her. But even despite the stupid bond he was sensible enough to understand that we all needed answers and him coddling her wouldn't give us those answers in this situation.
"I didn't really understand what she meant at the time, but she had said that you would find a very powerful mate, but he would also be your undoing..." She stuttered her way through the sentence as the rest of us registered her words.
It happened seventeen years ago when you were fifteen. The council had reached out to us to inform us that a coven would be passing through, and we were asked to grant them permission to pass through our territory.
17years ago.
"Mom, can I go to the cabin with my friends?"
The young alpha barged into his mother's office were two women covered with clocks sat on opposite sides of the Luna. Matt didn't care about them despite his unease; he was too focused on getting permission to go to the cabin with his friends as it would be one of them' s coming of age ceremony where his wolf would come out.
His excitement boarded on vibration, he didn't realize he hadn't even knocked and had just barged in.
Charlene's eyes flashed a bright blue, and she scolded the young alpha through the pack link and set him out with his tail between his legs.
She quickly regained her composure and continued her discussion with the visitors. One of them, the older woman with white eyes however still looked to the door where the young alpha had stood. She kept quiet for a full minute before she pulled her gaze up to meet the luna.
Charlene was a mother first before she was luna and understood that something had happened that she hadn't caught and paused to give the woman her attention.
"Your boy will have a very powerful mate. But he will also be his undoing. There is no changing the course of fate. He must carry his weight just as everyone else."
"What do you mean?" Charlene asked visibly perturbed. She didn't care that the witch had said her son was gay before he even realized it but that his mate would be his undoing.
The two women stood up after that as though they had planned to all along. They excused themselves to go find the other two they had come with. And by the time Charlene had reorganized her thoughts and found her mate the witches had passed through their territory.
"His undoing, what does that even mean?" Austin's voice came out sounding like he was under water. In couldn't hear it very well.
"I remember that day, you said one of them had said something strange about Matthew, but you didn't understand."
"And you told me it was nothing to worry about since Matt wasn't even gay" My mother countered as she wrung her shaking arms in agitation. Honestly, I was currently running through all my moments with my mate, from the time I smelt him to the time we touched. I didn't detect anything other than human on him and lunar knows my instincts had saved this pack more than my brute strength so forgive me if I was finding all this a little nonsensical.
I mean sure he was a very brave human, but humans were naturally just stupid. They had very little self-preservation when it came to their curiosity.
"So, there's no context to the statement just that?" I asked out loud and my mother flinched and looked the other way. I frowned at that; something flashed behind her blue eyes that I almost didn't catch. something cold and furious, it was fast and contained just as fast. I didn't believe that my mother would harm me willingly, but I knew she wouldn't think twice about Ekron.
"Mother" I pressed, a little harder than I intended and slipped in my alpha voice. My father snapped and growled at me so fast I thought he might have snapped his neck. Mom just closed her eyes real tight and clenched her arm, dropping them by her side to face me properly.
My eyes did that stupid apologetic thing, but I didn't budge. I had to know what was said fully.
"Server the bond, It's the only way-out Matthew."
"Out of what exactly mother? Out of a mating that I spent over fifteen years waiting to happen. Why didn't you tell me then, I could've done something then, I would've mated already by then." I snapped, my eyes flashing orange at the threat to our bond. My wolf clawed at my skull, screaming at me to go to our mate but I reigned it in and focused on my mother.
"His undoing? what does that even mean?" My beta seemed to find his voice, and I suddenly remembered to be embarrassed about earlier when I cried on him. But now wasn't the time to be ashamed of my sudden weakness. I had to understand what she meant.
"She didn't say anything after that, she just seemed to shrug and moved along. I tried to ask but then I got distracted and by the time we came back they had gone through the territory!"
"He's not right for you; I felt it the first time. He... am telling you right now, he's not entirely human." She mumbled the last part like she was talking to herself.
"Mother, I don't care if he's human or not. He's my mate and I want him. I will protect him, even if it means protecting him from himself." I growled the last part out. I didn't care if they agreed or not. I didn't care if this bond killed me, but I would have him by my side where he was always meant to be.
Ekron was mine. And nobody was taking him away from me. I didn't believe that Luna would pair me up with someone that was a risk to the pack or my own life. Mates were meant to complement each other, he was designed to fit in my life, and I would fight for us, for him.
