Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Containing the Creeper

Chapter 38: Containing the Creeper

The scene of destruction was horrific.

The crashed helicopter in the field was still burning, dozens of patrol cars were wrecked, and the estimated death toll was over ten.

Such a case was difficult for the Deputy Chief to handle, especially since he didn't even know what kind of creature the killer was before this.

It was only after asking this demonologist that he learned it was called the Creeper.

So, a Creeper destroyed dozens of patrol cars, killed over ten officers, and downed a police helicopter.

The Deputy Chief truly couldn't cover this up and could only call the Chief.

Danny stood with his back to everyone, looking at the Four of Clubs in his hand.

[Name: The Creeper]

[Status: Restrained, can be contained]

The Creeper did seem to be restrained by the alpha crawler, but his head could still move, baring his teeth at Danny.

His vitality was probably almost on par with the alpha crawler. He might even be stronger when not facing heavy weapons.

[Contain.]

The alpha crawler and the Creeper dispersed into black light, being absorbed into two ghost cards, and the two massive creatures disappeared just like that.

The police officers were curious but didn't dare to ask.

Two female officers also worked together to drag over Art the Clown.

"Sir, what should we do with this... person?"

They'd personally seen Art's head spin 360 degrees and still be alive. It was clearly not human.

If it weren't for the Deputy Chief's order, they wouldn't have dared to touch Art.

"Just throw him over there."

Danny said casually. His positioning for Art was as bait and a meat shield, as well as for exploration.

Wherever it was dangerous, he'd let Art go first to test it out.

Other than that, he wasn't of much use.

Art's combat power limit was there. One could only say he wasn't even a match for Pennywise from It.

"Hey, Danny, are you alright?"

Danny turned around and saw Darry, a somewhat flustered young man.

"I'm fine, Darry. What's wrong?"

"Are you really a demonologist?" This term was very unfamiliar to the general public, but for enthusiasts like Darry who were interested in the supernatural, it was definitely not unfamiliar.

Some people are born with the ability to see things that ordinary people cannot, as well as some special abilities.

Darry had once fantasized he would be such a person, but reality told him he was just an ordinary American from rural Pennsylvania with average grades.

Danny joked, "It's true, but I'm just provisional. Actually, I'd rather be a priest."

Darry heard the teasing in Danny's words and retorted.

"Then you'll have to carry a bible with you and wear the collar. You'll be more distinguished."

"Oh, come on, me as a priest?"

"Haha."

Darry was genuinely amused. He hadn't noticed before that Danny also had a dark sense of humor.

"Danny, let's go back together. I'll be your driver this time."

"Do you need payment?"

"Of course, just tell me some stories about demonology as payment."

The two got into the car. Normally, the Deputy Chief would definitely take them back for investigation, but now he was too preoccupied.

Even if he wanted to intervene, he couldn't.

The Church held significant power here. Not to mention local authorities, even the state didn't have that power—even for an unofficial demonologist.

The reason for this had to be attributed to the endless stream of supernatural events occurring now.

Hotel.

Trish looked at the two returning, laughing and chatting, with a surprised expression. When they left, they seemed to barely tolerate each other.

Now, their relationship seemed very good. What happened in between?

"Are you two alright? Was the killer caught?"

Darry exaggerated greatly.

"Caught, but that wasn't a person—it was a terrifying creature called the Creeper."

"The Creeper? Can that lie be any more fake? Don't try to fool me, Saint Darry."

"I'm not a saint!"

"You are."

The siblings were at odds.

Trish was mainly dissatisfied with Darry's series of reckless actions.

For an uncertain sound, he took such a great risk to climb in—more saintly than a martyr.

For Danny, he certainly hoped there would be more brave people in the world. Cautious people often hoped for more courageous people in the world.

Danny sometimes appreciated such teammates. He interrupted the siblings' argument.

"Alright, Trish, Darry is telling the truth. There really is a Creeper, and the hundreds of bodies are also real. Darry has performed a service. He did something very brave."

Darry said proudly, "Sister, did you hear that? You might not have guessed Danny's true identity is actually a demonologist. The police can even testify that he subdued the Creeper."

Trish was half-believing, mainly because she hadn't seen it herself. Her belief was all because of Danny's words.

Could she really call the police station to ask?

After all that had happened, everyone was hungry. The three sat down again and ordered three meals, preparing to eat and talk.

Darry was exceptionally excited, chattering non-stop even while eating.

Trish ignored her brother and looked at Danny, asking.

"Are we resting today or continuing our journey?"

Darry stammered, his burger not even swallowed.

"Of course... we're driving through the night."

"Shut up and eat your food." Trish scolded Darry.

Danny's intention was to rest for a day at this hotel and depart tomorrow. Leaving at night wasn't impossible, but he was worried about encountering trouble on the way.

If they accidentally ran into something like Dead End, it would be disastrous.

It's always right to be cautious.

So, resting for a day was safer.

Darry wanted to travel at night because Danny had stopped halfway through his demonology stories on the road, leaving him feeling unsatisfied. But unfortunately, Danny and Trish were on the same side.

They could only choose to stay at the hotel.

When renting rooms,

Darry hinted, intentionally or unintentionally, that he wanted to share a room with Danny to continue their unfinished conversation.

How could Danny agree? He didn't have a habit of bunking with guys.

It would be different if it were your sister.

"Darry, this is non-negotiable."

"Then what about calling my sister and the three of us together?" As soon as Darry finished speaking, Trish grabbed his ear.

"Darry, I'm telling Grandma about this when we get back. You're finished."

Danny hadn't expected this kid to have such a weird idea, even suggesting all three of them together.

"Darry, you know I'm not that kind of person."

Darry truly didn't mean it that way. He felt he was being wronged.

Night fell.

The three ultimately rented three rooms, one for each of them, with the three rooms adjacent to each other.

Danny leaned against the headboard and took out a ghost card.

[Containment Object: The Creeper]

[Abilities: Flight, Echolocation, Hibernation, High Temperature Tolerance, DNA Repair, Immune Regulation, Undying Body (Partial)]

[Description: This is an unkillable Creeper]

Danny felt the description was somewhat redundant after reading it, and the 'undying body' part seemed to overlap with other abilities.

No matter how redundant the description, it couldn't change the fact that the Creeper could directly tear apart a helicopter and ignore conventional weapons.

Just these two points alone were already very good.

There were no shortfalls in terms of a tank for now. Next, Danny could focus on finding evil spirits and demons—these types of containment objects.

Those belonged to the realm of true supernatural phenomena and the occult.

Danny currently had no good methods, so he placed his hopes on the Warren couple, as the two of them traveled all over the country and were bound to encounter suitable cases.

Once he passed the review and became a demonologist, he could appear as external support, which would be very beneficial.

The Warren couple usually investigated the origin of the entity first before inviting a priest or a demonologist from the Church to act.

This was much safer than casually stumbling into unknown supernatural events.

After all, no one knew whether they would ultimately encounter a minor threat or a hidden great horror.
