Chapter 1 - A world called Herukle

This is just a test, I know some will think does the author know about the lore.

I know bits and pieces well in all honesty I just got into warhammer 40k. The lore intrigues me so does the universe.

ALL HAILL THE AUTHOR!!!

**********

A planet not facing the worst dangers, but famine and other stuff as they're ruled under the Emperor of man. But the fate of the planet will soon know despair as the world will plunged into destruction.

A universe where danger is everywhere, there is no peace, no easy life. Death was ever present and so was destruction.

Though right now, this world he lived in with just tiny bit of the Emperor's influence people say the Emperor's warriors were here.

A young man now 19 didn't participate in trying to be a guardsmen. He seen death's, he lived in the slums and well many died or where executed if they stole. He saw them die right in front of him causing quite the trauma.

Vincent was his name, he didn't want to be any part of it. But knew his time would come, as guardsmen would forcefully recruit young guys. He luckily hid himself well to not be picked. He heard already to many dying and the chances of living long in being under the imperium was almost nothing.

Many would die in their first year or even first months as they get deployed to other worlds. Life was harsh, even growing up in poverty where his parents scrapped up canned goods. If one's smart and lucky they wouldn't find the expired or moldy one's. Trading was a huge thing also.

Rations of bread, water, rice were the big things, meat was a delicacy. Vincent wondered what was the point in joining to fight for some emperor from a far away planet.

[A/N: I just smell a lot of comments are going to be like "blephmasy" or "heresy".....this one fanfic should be a unique one where the MC isn't part of the emperium, well part of the the emperor's army.]

He would die and then what, he didn't want to die for the sake of the emperor. He seen writings and well the guardians preach it about "glory to the emperor."

Verses like they were holy scriptures about bringing freedom or some form of peace to any fallen or poor world in the emperor's will and name.

Vincent had well knowledge even though he is in poverty. He had "acquired" books from the schools where those books were and mostly the more wealthy kids go to. He learned how to articulate his words better, he was smarter than some and passed down the knowledge to the other smaller kids.

"Vincent"

Hearing his name, he saw someone he knew all to well. A friend of his who was drafted to be a guardsmen.

"Kayle"

"Good to see you being the good guy for the kids."

"As long as you don't expose me it will be alright."

Stealing would result his death and be branded a heretic, thankfully his childhood friend. Someone he taught as family helped him in not be caught. Guardsmen would kick the door to his home and grab him. Setting him an example for execution and the one that would do it are the Adeptus Arbites. They say there was always present at least one to enforce the law. There was one present in the company.

They sat down on a curve, as Kayle wasn't in his duty uniform. Which consisted in old metal pieces of armor. Guardsmen were the lowest of the low in soldier priority. Well, they were just made in numbers those that aren't special giving old equipment. Just slightly good rations, which consist of the same.

Kayle was going to stay here in the outskirts of the city. Protecting the outer perimeter from any aliens, monsters, heretics and anything coming to cause trouble.

He belonged to the 8th company composed of 100 men. Who stayed here to guard this small slum of a town. They were 30 miles out from the city, so getting back up would take a while.

Though there in the kingdom Vincent saw them. Space marines guarded the one area where the governor stayed at. The toughest of the bunch though only a small group of them were there. No way they would help people like them.

Space marines where strong warriors that brought hope in battle. They were genetically modified, surgeries they had to undergo, training where they could die in. But even before going to training they had to survive the surgery to become a space marine trainee. \

Where a very low chance many come back alive.

"Can't do that to you bud."

They fist bumped as Vincent was thankful for him, he would give insight of what's happening out there. Of course he had to sneak out as he lived in the barracks separate from Vincent.

Then he noticed a solemn look on his face, Vincent didn't know what was going through his mind.

"Is everything alright?"

"Not really."

He didn't lie as he looked at Vincent the smile of his gone.

"They're switching my company to another, we're getting deployed to back up space marines in their hold in another planet."

Vincent clicked his tongue, he hated that a lot. He learned a lot about roations and deployments, but deploying was harsh and certain death. They were just there to add up numbers.

He didn't think this day would happen, it's been an year and now he would soon go.

"Haaa....I didn't want to bring it up but since you're my best bud I had to."

It threw a wrench in his heart, because he dam well knew he might not see him again. That's why he didn't want to be some number in an army. Though again he felt like his planet would soon meet it's end.

He at least live a bit more freely than nothing at all. Dying in the battlefield for a so called cause for the emperor. He never blamed or hated what the imperium worships the emperor of man. Just that this universe is unfair.

"How long till then?"

"About a month, it's to soon but they need us bad, shit sucks I know."

Kayle slapped him on the back.

"Cheer up, I know it sounds bad but I think I'll come back in one piece or maybe a few scratches."

Trying to lighten the mood, Vincent smiled as he just agreed with a nod. Vincent was a fighter, he actually was someone strong in close combat than any guardsman that Kayle fought alongside him.

If he willed it, Kayle believed Vincent had a higher chance to become a space marine unlike him. He had a strong body for someone in poverty they both were. Being a guardsman was almost the same as being in poverty. Just having old armor, used and old weapons, a bit more food but still shit rations.

A little money, though the training was fucked up. It would break those who didn't have the will to fight. Vincent could easily do them, he was the strongest in the neighborhood.

"Wanna go play a bit of ball?"

"Hell yeah."
