Chapter 18 - settlement

A day and a half had passed. Sven was still lying in the back of the car, and on the rear shelf lay packaging from pancakes and noodles, along with dirty disposable plates. During this time, Sven alternated between reading novels and drawing runes in his diary.

The car had been in the parking lot for half an hour already. The servant had stepped away for a smoke break. Sven had already arrived at the university, but there was still an hour or half an hour left before the ceremonies. Sven ordered the servant to open the door and call him.

"Lamergans: the first is the hourglass, the second is the arcana, the third is the serpent's bend. My god, there are only 54 of them, how can I not remember them?"

Sven took a pen and drew a circle, placed the marauder's key in the center, and connected it to the crown of Galan. Then he whispered the incantation "creation of green fire" and imbued it into the crown of Galan rune.

"Emm, fire?" Sven said uncertainly.

A flame erupted from the diary. Sven smiled, until the moment he realized his diary had started to burn. Sven's fingers caught fire; he threw the diary down in pain. Then he started hitting it with a pillow so the fire wouldn't spread. The entire interior of the car filled with smoke.

Suddenly, the servant opened the back door of the car.

"Master Sven, the ravisher has arrived to see you," the servant said.

Grey smoke billowed out of the car. The servant and the ravisher were stunned; the servant quickly grabbed Sven and pulled him out of the car, while the ravisher took the burning diary and immediately threw it onto the asphalt. The servant and the ravisher approached the diary and began stomping on it until the fire went out.

The servant turned around, went to the car, and opened the trunk. The ravisher took two large suitcases and headed toward the dormitory. The servant quickly drove away, handing Sven an envelope.

"What am I supposed to do with him?" Sven asked.

The ravisher said nothing.

Sven opened the envelope, and then the letter. On one side was a note, and on the other were runes.

[Hello, Sven Laocard. We congratulate you once again on joining our University of Corsacs named after Ktan Tashi. We have already assigned you room 611 in the dormitory per your requests. Our page, the ravisher, will show you to your room; he will vanish once he has guided you there.]

After Sven read the note, a room key popped out of the runes; Sven managed to catch the keys. Then the ravisher headed to Sven's room with his suitcases.

The academy grounds were incredibly vast, like a separate island. Enclosed by a fence, inside the territory was a massive nine-story university, and the dormitory itself was split into two Renaissance-style buildings surrounding the Renaissance-style university. The rest of the territory consisted of modern buildings and an ancient gladiatorial arena.

Sven examined his surroundings while following the ravisher. Then he entered the men's dormitory. On the first floor was a watchman's booth and many corridors leading to rooms. A massive staircase led upward.

Sven climbed to the sixth floor and found his room. The ravisher approached the door and vanished, leaving the suitcases behind. Sven opened the door with the key and went inside.

The room was quite cozy, a small space. It had a bunk bed, one wardrobe, and two desks.

"These desks aren't like the ones in my room, of course, but they're still fairly large," Sven thought, stroking the desk.

Sven took his things out of the suitcases. He put his clothes in the wardrobe, leaving space for a future roommate, took out his study tools, and placed them on the edge of the desk. After that, Sven lay on the bottom bunk and started reading a novel again until he heard the door open.

A young guy walked through the door; he was so pretty he could be mistaken for a girl. His skin was the color of ivory, his cheeks were plump, and his ears were like an elf's. He didn't look strong but was wiry. His eyes were green, his hair was white-ashy and long; bangs covered his forehead, two strands hung by his temples, and the back was gathered into a ponytail. He was dressed in a translucent dark top that didn't cover his navel, wide grey pants, and elven earrings. Then, a smile appeared on the elf's face.

"Hi, Sven," said Sam Barnum.

"Oh, Sam, my sweet friend," Sven said, smiling warmly.

"I definitely didn't expect this; Sam should certainly be my ally," Sven said to himself.

Sven immediately shifted into a sitting position, shook Sam's hand, and pulled him close with the other. After the greeting, Sven sat back on the bed, and Sam sat down next to him, opening his suitcase and taking out his clothes.

"So, what did you bring with you?" Sven asked.

"Clothes, a few artifacts, tech, and..." Sam said.

"A dildo," Sven added.

"That too, but primarily a gift," Sam said.

"A gift?" Sven asked.

"Yes, sorry I couldn't come to see you," Sam said.

Sven took a book titled "Manual of Sorcery" from Sam.

"It's not exactly practical to give a book on sorcery to the heir of a clan that has been collecting books about the whole world for centuries," Sven thought, but he didn't show it and simply smiled.

"This isn't quite an ordinary book on sorcery; it's a personal treasure of the elven clan," Sam said, then added, "It's a detailed textbook on how to attract the attention of patrons, such as celestials or fays. It also covers fiends and abyssal monsters, of course, but I trust you won't perform those rituals."

At this information, Sven gave a crooked smile. Celestials, then.
