Day 23
The jungle had changed or perhaps, Alex had changed. Three weeks ago, the forest was a wall of green noise, terrifying and overwhelming as well as chaotic.
Now, it was a grid of data for him, that snap of a twig? A Rattata, likely Level 4.
That distant screech? A Pidgeotto claiming territory, Level 14.
Alex sat in the shadow of a banyan tree, his hands busy with a strip of tough leather he had cut from his own belt.
He looked thinner and his uniform hung loosely on his frame, stained with mud, berry juice, and old blood but his movements were precise, devoid of the frantic energy of his first days.
"Hold still," Alex murmured.
The Nidoran sat patiently in front of him, It had grown a lot . It wasn't a giant monster yet, but the runt quality was fading.
At Level 13, its muscles were corded and dense, rippling under the purple fur, the horn on its forehead was longer, sharper, and constantly dripping with a faint, translucent venom.
Alex finished the stitching on the leather pouch, It was crude, sealed with tree sap and wax, but it was watertight. Inside, he had placed the glob of Black Sludge he had harvested from the cave.
"This is your heart," Alex whispered, fastening the collar around the Nidoran's neck.
The pouch rested against the Nidoran's throat, right over the poison glands and the effect was immediate.
The Nidoran stiffened, a low, vibrating hum resonated from its chest. The Black Sludge wasn't just slime; it was concentrated toxic energy and it resonated with the Nidoran's biology.
[ Item Equipped: Black Sludge Collar ]
[ Effect: Passive Regeneration (Low)
Poison Potency +10% ]
Nidoran shook its head, testing the weight. It looked at Alex, its red eyes glowing with a newfound intensity.
It felt... full, like it had just eaten a meal, but the energy was constant.
"It heals you," Alex explained."Slowly, If you get cut, you don't bleed out and You recover. It's the difference between fighting one enemy and fighting three."
He checked the status screen.
[ Nidoran ]
[ Level: 13 ]
[ Aptitude: Red (Dark) ]
[ Moves: ..... Double Kick (Medium), Sucker Punch (Medium) ]
"Level 13," Alex noted. "Three levels away from evolution buddy and we have just seven days left until the Evaluation."
Getting from 13 to 16 in a week required high-quality XP, Rattatas and Spearows weren't enough anymore as they gave only diminishing returns.
"We need a player," Alex decided, standing up and put on his mask.
He wasn't hunting for food today, he was hunting for information.
The rumor mill at the Outpost, which he visited only to buy water was churning. People were whispering about the format of the Evaluation and he needed to know what the commander had planned.
"Let's go, buddy."
They patrolled the edge of Sector 2, near the river belt. This was a high traffic area for recruits looking for Water types.
An hour in, they found someone.
He wasn't hiding as he was sitting on a rock by the riverbank, feeding his Pokémon.
The recruit was lanky, with glasses that were cracked on one side. He looked nervous, constantly checking his watch.
But his Pokémon...
Alex froze behind the foliage.
It was a Drowzee.
The tapir-like Pokémon stood on its hind legs, wiggling its fingers in the air, It was yellow and brown, with a trunk like nose.
[ Pokémon: Drowzee ]
[ Level: 12 ]
[ Aptitude: Green (Solid) ]
[ Type: Psychic ]
Alex's breath hitched, Psychic type.
In the typing chart, Psychic was the natural predator of Poison, a single Confusion or Psybeam could liquefy his Nidoran's brain, It was a hard counter.
"We should leave," the survivalist part of Alex's brain whispered. "Find a Grass type or Find a Bug."
But the strategist part, the gamer part disagreed.
"He has a Type Advantage," Alex analyzed. "He knows it and he'll be overconfident, he won't expect a Poison type to engage him."And Nidoran had its own ace,Sucker Punch, a Dark-type move which is Super effective against Psychic.
"High risk, high reward, it's a gamble alright and I've always been a gambler" Alex muttered.
He stepped out of the bushes.
"Hey."
The lanky recruit jumped, nearly dropping his food, Drowzee turned slowly, its eyes narrowing.
"Who... who are you?" the recruit stammered, eyeing Alex's face. "Ares? The guy selling potion fakes?"
"You know me," Alex said, keeping his voice flat. "That saves time."
"What do you want?" The recruit stood up, backing away behind his Drowzee.
"I don't have points as you can see I spent them all on food."
"I want information," Alex said.
"About the Evaluation, What have you heard?"
The recruit laughed nervously. "Information? That's what you want? Look, man, just leave me alone. My Drowzee is Level 12 and It knows Confusion, One hit and your rabbit is a vegetable."
He pointed a shaking finger at the Nidoran.
"Drowzee, get ready."
The Drowzee raised its hands, a faint pink aura began to glow around its fingers, It was preparing a mental assault.
"Psychic against Poison," the recruit sneered, gaining confidence. "It's basic knowledge ,You lose buddy."
Alex didn't move and he didn't panic.
"Knowledge implies rules," Alex said cold. "I don't play by rules."
"Nidoran, Focus Energy."
Nidoran growled, tensing its muscles, critical hit ratio rose.
"Confusion!" the recruit screamed. Drowzee thrust its hands forward, a wave of pink, distortion energy rippled through the air.
If that hit, it was over.
"Sucker Punch," Alex commanded. "Now!"
This was the test, Sucker Punch only worked if the opponent was attacking as It stole their initiative.
Nidoran didn't run, It vanished into a blur of dark motion and before the pink wave could fully form, Nidoran was there, right in the Drowzee's face. A cloak of black, jagged energy surrounded its body, overriding the Psychic distortion.
The Nidoran slammed into the Drowzee's gut.
Dark vs Psychic. 2x Damage
Hustle Boost 1.5x Damage
Focus Energy Crit?
It was a critical hit, Drowzee's eyes bulged and the pink aura shattered like glass.
It was lifted off its feet and blasted backward, skidding ten meters across the mud before crashing into a tree.
It slid down, unconscious.
The recruit stood there, mouth open, his hand still pointing at the empty air where his Pokémon used to be.
"W-what?" he whispered.
"How? You're Poison..."
"And you're slow," Alex said, walking forward.
Nidoran stood over the fallen Drowzee, panting, the Black Sludge collar pulsed, sending a warm wave of healing energy into its body, repairing the minor strain from the hustle exertion.
Alex stopped in front of the recruit, he didn't draw his knife as he didn't need to.The display of power was the best weapon.
"The Evaluation," Alex repeated. "Talk."
The recruit trembled, looking at his defeated Drowzee. "I..... I heard some grunts talking to the Captains, It's not a tournament."
"What is it?"
"It's a Cull," the recruit spilled, his words tumbling out. "They're going to release a herd of Rhyhorn into Sector 2 and Arbok into Sector 3. They're flushing us out. We have to reach the Central Tower in Sector 1 within 24 hours and anyone outside the perimeter when the timer ends...the collars automatically detonate."
Alex froze, he looked at his watch.
He didn't have an explosive collar, just the tracker, he had analysed it.
"Not us," the recruit clarified, tapping his own neck.
"The wild Pokémon, they tagged the Alphas. They're going to frenzy them, It's a stampede, man and we just have to run."
A stampede.... Survival of the fastest, perfect fit for the jungle.
"Sector 1," Alex calculated. "That's the mountain base, that's ten kilometers uphill through hostile territory."
It wasn't a battle, It was a marathon through a meat grinder.
"Thanks," Alex said.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small jar, not the usual salve, but a smaller one containing a pinch of the Salve he hadn't used.
"Here," Alex tossed it. "Put that on your Drowzee's bruises, It won't like it, but it'll heal."
The recruit caught the jar, confused. "Why?"
"Because you didn't lie," Alex said.
He turned and walked away.
"Let's go, Nidoran. We have training to do."
As they disappeared into the tree line, Alex's mind was racing.
A Rhyhorn stampede, Rhyhorns were the most common Ground/Rock types, Physically indestructible and fast in a straight line.
"Double Kick helps," Alex muttered. "But we can't fight a herd, We need real mobility and we need to hit Level 16."
He looked at his Nidoran.
Alex said. "When you evolve, you get bigger and You will get stronger. Can you carry me like a horse?"
The Nidoran looked at him, It was strong, but carrying a human?.
"We have seven days," Alex said, his voice grim. "To survive the stampede, we don't just need to run, we need to be the things that the Rhyhorns are afraid of."
[ Quest Updated: The First Evaluation ]
[ Objective: Reach Sector 1 Central Tower ]
[ Obstacle: Alpha Stampede]
[ Time Remaining: 7 Days ]
He took out his MP3 player and put on music as music.
I pissed in her maggot filled asshole
Fucking the rotting
My semen is bleeding
Seeps from her genital cavity
The smell was unbearable as I unburied her
I cum blood from my erection
