Chapter 77: Escape
We brought Noah back in silence.
No one was in the mood to talk. The staging area outside the rift, already chaotic after the battle with the Boss, now looked even more like a field hospital.
Injured Espers lay sprawled on stretchers, on the ground, and some even had to lean on their teammates' shoulders just to walk.
The smell of blood, disinfectant, and burnt energy mixed together, leaving my throat dry and raw.
Noah was placed on a metal bed at the deepest spot in the treatment area. After that mysterious Guide touched his cheek, the signs of an impending eruption had completely disappeared, but Noah's body was still covered in wounds. His eyes were shut tight, his complexion pale, and his breathing so weak that it made people afraid to look away.
I stood nearby and watched for a long while.
