Chapter 7 - A Giant Sword on His Back, a Young Slave

Just as the two of them were enjoying their meal, a shrill burst of laughter rang out, making Jack's eyelid twitch.

How should it be described? Like a drake being pecked in the ass by an old hen, letting out a miserable screech.

Jack turned his head and saw a shriveled old man, gripping a chain in his hand.

The other end of the chain was tied to a teenage girl. On the girl's back was a broad sword nearly identical in size to Haixiao.

Besides the girl, there were also two Unsullied in leather armor, short daggers in hand, staying close to the old man as personal guards.

Jack curled his lips. For the sake of those two Unsullied, he wouldn't bother arguing with this old duck.

The old man glanced around and noticed that the hall was already full. Very quickly, his gaze locked onto Jack and Newgate.

This one old, one young pair was obviously the easiest to bully.

Dragging the girl over to Jack's side, he said, "Kid, go share a table with someone else, or go back to your room."

Jack raised an eyebrow. Damn it—he really thought he was easy to push around? There were at least five tables in the hall, yet he picked their table specifically.

Newgate, on the other hand, remained calm. The other tables were all filled with groups of people. Only their table had just two of them, an old man and a young one—looking very easy to bully.

So this kind of thing was normal. You always pick the soft persimmon to squeeze.

"Old bastard, you think just because you've got two Unsullied you—"

Jack was just about to draw Haixiao when, with a pa, two gold coins were slapped onto the table.

"—can order people around and talk about respecting the elderly and loving the young!"

A smile spread across Jack's face. The purchasing power of two gold coins was roughly equivalent to twenty thousand in his previous life.

Considering ancient prices, it might be worth even more.

Jack felt that trading a seat for two gold coins was a great deal. What's more, they had already finished eating.

He reached out to take the coins, but the old man suddenly snatched them back.

A mocking smile appeared on the old man's face. He wasn't stupid—why would he actually spend two gold coins to buy a seat?

He just wanted to toy with Jack.

"Young man, don't take money that isn't yours. Otherwise, that's stealing. I put my own money on the table—how could you take it?"

Jack's eye twitched. "Old bastard, you're playing me, huh?" Jack was extremely angry.

This old man really thought that two Unsullied and a little girl could protect him.

  As if sensing Jack's anger—

Eugene thoroughly enjoyed this kind of expression, where others were furious yet couldn't do anything to him. It gave him a sense of superiority.

The other people in the inn were all watching the show with interest.

This old man was a small slave owner in the area. Ever since he obtained that slave girl, he'd been showing off endlessly.

That slave girl had originally been the daughter of one of the slaves on his estate.

Later, he beat that slave to death and originally planned to sell the girl as well.

But unexpectedly, the girl possessed tremendous strength and had an innate talent for heavy swords.

She alone could handle several adult slaves, so Old Eugene kept her, treating her like a good dog to show off everywhere.

  "That's right, I—"

Before Eugene could finish his sarcastic words, Jack's Haixiao greatsword came crashing down.

One of the Unsullied beside him reacted instantly, thrusting out his short sword in an attempt to deflect Jack's greatsword.

However, he underestimated Jack's strength. Jack's physical attributes were roughly three to four times that of an ordinary person.

In front of Haixiao, the Unsullied's short sword was like a piece of paper.

In a single instant, Eugene was split cleanly in two. Haixiao cutting through a body was like slicing tofu.

Jack barely felt any resistance at all.

As Eugene's corpse collapsed to the ground, the remaining two Unsullied immediately lunged toward Jack.

Even though their employer was already dead, the loyal Unsullied still chose to attack Jack.

This was one of the Unsullied's strengths—no fear, no emotions, only obedience.

Of course, Unsullied weren't impossible to sway. Just like Daenerys—throw away the slave master's whip.

Then use personal charisma to conquer the Unsullied, making them willingly fight for you.

While Jack was entangled in combat with the two Unsullied, the girl tilted her head, watching everything with curiosity.

She then glanced at Eugene's corpse on the ground, a glimmer of divine light flashing through her eyes.

At that moment, Newgate seized the opportunity and struck from behind, driving his dagger straight into one Unsullied's heart.

For an old man to live this long, he clearly wasn't useless.

Meanwhile, Jack also killed the other Unsullied who was trying to rely on footwork to entangle him.

"Wahaha, didn't expect it—you actually have some skill," Jack said.

Newgate smiled and replied, "If I didn't have some ability, I'd have died long ago. How could I have survived until your arrival?"

Jack was quite pleased with Newgate's flattery. After all, who doesn't like being praised?

"This old man looks like a slave owner. We need to leave immediately, or there might be trouble later. After all, Unsullied aren't sold individually."

As he spoke, Jack rummaged through Eugene's body and pulled out a money pouch. Weighing it in his hand, there were at least twenty gold coins.

Ignoring the stunned crowd of onlookers, Jack walked straight up to the innkeeper and tapped the counter with Haixiao.

"I'm not staying anymore. Refund my money."

The innkeeper swallowed hard and, trembling, took out four silver coins.

He hadn't expected this youth to be so strong—able to swing a four-finger-wide greatsword like a tree branch.

"Are you kidding me?" Jack said coldly. "I clearly gave you four gold coins. What do you mean by giving me four silver coins?"
