Chapter 8
"The ramen's here! Enjoy, you two little guests."
While the pair chatted idly, the owner set two steaming bowls in front of them.
"Dig in!"
Ling Yu flashed Mikoto a smile and immediately attacked his bowl with big, enthusiastic bites.
"Mm! Itadakimasu!"
Mikoto gave a soft call before delicately picking up her chopsticks and eating in small, careful mouthfuls.
They finished lunch at the ramen shop, rested a bit, then headed back toward the academy—practical combat class awaited that afternoon.
…
"Hey! Don't get too cocky!"
Just as they passed a barbecue restaurant, an angry shout erupted from inside.
"Hm?"
Ling Yu and Mikoto paused. He recognized that voice immediately.
"What's wrong?"
Mikoto, walking a step behind, looked at him curiously.
"That sounds like Choji. Sounds like he's arguing with someone."
Ling Yu glanced back at her, nodding toward the shop.
"Choji? Are they inside?"
Mikoto thought for a second—yes, same Class A.
"Yeah. He's not usually quick to anger. Wonder what happened."
"Let's go check it out."
Ling Yu nodded and headed inside. Mikoto followed close behind.
"Haha, so what if I'm cocky? What are you gonna do about it, you little fatty?"
The moment they stepped in, an arrogant voice rang out.
"I hate it when people call me fat!"
Another furious reply followed.
Pushing through the small crowd of onlookers, Ling Yu finally saw the scene.
The Ino-Shika-Cho trio plus Minato stood together, scattered ingredients at their feet. Facing them were three taller students—all with black short hair and wearing the Uchiha clan crest on their clothes. They looked down at the group with smug superiority.
The atmosphere in the shop had turned heavy. Nearby civilians and the owner had stopped eating, glaring at the three Uchiha boys—but no one dared speak up.
The Uchiha clan currently handled Konoha's police force. They were one of the village's strongest families, known for being domineering and often drawing complaints from villagers.
Because of that, the Uchiha were the most disliked clan among the common people. No one wanted trouble with them.
Seeing this as soon as he walked in, Ling Yu frowned. He turned to Mikoto and asked quietly:
"The ones arguing with Choji—are they from your clan? Do you know them?"
As a Senju, he already disliked most Uchiha shinobi—not just because of the ancient clan feud, but because their arrogance and terrible reputation in the village made them insufferable. He often felt like teaching them a lesson himself.
Mikoto nodded and whispered:
"Yeah. The leader's name is Uchiha Mad. He and the two behind him are upperclassmen.
His grandfather is one of the clan elders, and his brother is a vice-captain in the police force. That's why he acts so arrogant at school—always bullying people.
He's been warned by teachers multiple times but never changes. The other two are just his lackeys."
She finished with a small, angry shake of her fist—clearly, she'd disliked these three for a long time.
"I see. Wait here for me. I'll go check it out."
If the Uchiha saw Mikoto walking with him, it could cause her trouble. Better to leave her at the back of the crowd.
Ling Yu pushed forward. The conflict had already escalated.
"I said you're a fatty—so what? What are you gonna do about it?"
Uchiha Mad sneered.
"You started this! You should apologize! Don't think being an Uchiha means I won't hit you!"
Choji glared fiercely at the ringleader, eyes burning with anger.
"Heh, with what? You? A first-year brat thinking he can beat me? Dream on!"
Mad laughed mockingly.
"Senior, this was clearly your fault. Everyone saw it. You won't apologize and you're even starting more trouble. Aren't you afraid we'll report this to the teachers?"
Minato stepped forward calmly, trying to reason.
But Mad wasn't intimidated. He cracked his knuckles and barked:
"Report to teachers? What's that gonna do? Let me tell you straight—my dad is a clan elder, and my brother's a police vice-captain. In this village, I'm untouchable. Complain to whoever you want—it won't matter."
He patted Minato's shoulder condescendingly and whispered:
"I know you—the civilian genius from first year. Mind your own business, or who knows? Your family might have an 'accident' one day."
With that, he waved his hand, signaling his two followers to leave.
Minato lowered his head, face dark and silent. His clenched fists were the only sign of the storm inside him.
This was the harsh reality for civilian families—powerful clans could bully you, and you had no way to fight back.
"Step aside. I'll handle this."
Ling Yu walked up, patted Minato's shoulder, and spoke calmly. He'd already heard the full story from Shikaku.
It was simple: Mad, in his usual arrogance, had told Choji to "move" when he blocked their path. When Choji didn't budge fast enough, Mad shoved him—sending trays of fresh meat and sauce flying. Choji's clothes were ruined, the food wasted. Furious, Choji blocked them again, and the argument exploded.
"Ling Yu… Alright. Sorry—I owe you another one."
Minato stared in surprise, started to speak, then shook his head and stepped back, remembering Ling Yu's background.
"No problem. Leave the rest to me."
"Hold it! What's this trash yelling about? You really think Konoha belongs to you? Bullying my friends? Go piss in a mirror and see what kind of trash you are!"
Ling Yu didn't waste words—he unloaded a barrage of insults straight at Mad, who was about to walk out.
He couldn't reveal his full strength yet, but as the young master of the Senju clan, sometimes he had to act the part. No point in having this status if he didn't use it when it mattered—especially when he was clearly on the side of justice.
"Whoa… Ling Yu's usually so gentle. Didn't expect him to curse like that!"
Behind him, Minato and the Ino-Shika-Cho trio stared in admiration. Even Mikoto, hidden at the back of the crowd, was startled.
"What?!"
"You…"
Mad turned, ready to see who dared talk to him like that—then froze when he recognized Ling Yu.
"Big bro, what do we do?"
His two lackeys also recognized him and whispered nervously.
"My grandfather specifically told me to avoid conflict with him right now. Ignore him. Let's go."
Mad wasn't stupid. Remembering his grandfather's warning, he darkened his face, turned, and led his followers toward the door.
