Chapter 17 - Gabriel in the Game

The prices were the same, but the benefits were worlds apart.

Spending 30,000 Source Points to buy the Type-Moon Magecraft Training Method would, in the end, only make him somewhat stronger than an ordinary human.

A certain "Magus Killer" understood this well, often using modern technology to kill Magi.

But if he spent 30,000 Source Points to purchase the Tutelage of the Shadow Land's Queen, it would be different.

Aside from a Shishou with a hot figure in a tight bodysuit, he could also gain many other valuable things.

Magecraft training methods, various Noble Phantasms—they might all be thrown in as extras.

There were countless ways to increase one's strength across infinite worlds, but none were as safe and reliable as the Tutelage of the Shadow Land's Queen.

The alternatives involved either taking potions or modifying his own body.

These were the aspects Toya was least willing to touch.

"Being a hoarder feels awful."

Toya picked up the high-tech smartphone worth a whopping 100 Source Points and immediately opened an open-world combat game.

As for the competitive game from earlier, it wasn't that he didn't want to play, but that he had been banned for going AFK.

"Oh? There's actually a stray little priest in the wild?"

"Just my luck. I just started playing and have no gear, so use your equipment to compensate me."

After a flurry of operations, the little priest was killed, and equipment exploded all over the ground.

Apartment Next Door.

Gabriel, who had thoroughly transformed into a shut-in otaku, stared blankly at the screen with her clear, beautiful eyes, as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

[You have been killed by player 'Trash Fox'. Hatred +1.]

"Why?! In the last game, you were the one who went AFK. Now I switch to a different game, and you're the one killing me?"

"No way, I want revenge!"

As an angel, Gabriel possessed a photographic memory. She immediately recalled that the teammate who had trolled her by going AFK was also named "Trash Fox."

In that moment, she disregarded her dignity as the top student of the Angel Academy in Heaven and transformed into a cold, ruthless killer priest, hunting down the player named "Trash Fox."

However, Gabriel's skills were too pathetic. Every time she tried to hunt him down, she ended up getting counter-killed by Toya.

In the end, Gabriel dropped all her items.

Seeing such a pitiful sight—the little priest relentlessly chasing him despite losing everything—Toya couldn't bear it and let her go.

"You're too weak. Practice more and come back later."

----

Dusk.

The sun began to set. Kasumigaoka Utaha opened the door and was greeted by the sight of Toya playing games like a retired old man who had given up on society.

"Does this mean you've been playing games all day?"

Utaha tossed her school bag aside and said with a hint of helplessness, "Kawashima, don't you have anything else to do?"

Seeing Toya sitting on the balcony, basking in the sun and playing games the moment she came back, made her incredibly envious.

Unfortunately, she was a student and couldn't enjoy the beautiful dusk like Toya.

"I did a little something in the afternoon."

"A dachshund infected by the Evil God's aura."

Toya put down his phone and thought for a moment. "After killing the infected dachshund, there was nothing else."

"So I came back to play games."

"Pets can be infected too?" Utaha's wine-red eyes widened in shock. "Doesn't that mean the future will become even more dangerous?"

Toya pondered for a moment. "That's unclear."

"Whether the future will become safer or more dangerous is uncertain for now."

The "everyday world" the system had promised was long gone.

Evil Gods, Angels, Dragons—all sorts of higher beings had appeared. Who knew what other creatures might show up in the future?

He could only hope that a strong individual would appear to keep these higher beings in check.

Utaha sighed helplessly. "Being an ordinary person is tough. I feel so powerless facing these things."

With that, she turned her head and looked at Toya seriously. "I'm going to take a shower. You are not allowed to peek."

The exhaustion from a full day of classes could only be washed away by a bath.

Having a boy in the house made her slightly uneasy.

"Who do you think I am?" Toya looked at her with disgust. "Are games not fun enough? Is the sunlight not gentle enough?"

"Why would I peek at you showering?"

"Is that so?" Utaha remained noncommittal, though she felt somewhat relieved.

Living with Toya had only just begun today. Her heart held both anticipation and apprehension.

After all, she was Kasumigaoka Utaha. If he tried anything, it would be trouble.

In reality, Utaha was overthinking it.

Until she finished her shower, she didn't hear a single sound of Toya approaching the bathroom. She didn't even hear him enter the living room.

For the entire half-hour, Toya had stayed on the balcony.

Toya looked up indifferently at Utaha, whose black hair was still dripping wet as she clutched her bath towel. "Do you need something?"

"Did you really not have any thoughts of peeking?" Utaha's beautiful eyes were full of surprise.

There was a beautiful girl with a great figure and face in the bathroom, yet Toya had stayed on the balcony the entire time.

Toya looked at her, puzzled. "Why would I peek?"
