Chapter 45 - Found Out

For a moment, everyone in the classroom was shocked. The principal of the hero academy just walked in, pulled out his soul weapon, pointed it at a student, and said "demon."

At that moment, everyone's eyes drifted to the student the principal was pointing at. It was a single male student sitting at the back of the classroom, with both feet on the desk. His fiery red hair was a mess as it wasn't combed this morning.

"Huh?"

Roku scowled at the principal with no effort to hide his annoyance.

"Not only did you have the gall to sneak into my academy, but you also murdered one of my students underneath my watch. I don't know how I'll live through such a shame but you'll certainly not."

Again, a wave of whispers washed through the classroom.

"That can't be right."

"Did he say he killed a student?"

"No way."

"Which student is it?"

Watching the students' faces, Roku frowned and climbed to his feet.

"Look, old man, I don't have any idea what you're talking about."

Roku said, but Principal Grimore wouldn't dare listen to the words of a demon. Not when he had proof. The school kept track of every student at the academy. They knew everyone's whereabouts and health conditions.

They kept track of all of this through the watches they gave us. It has a GPS tracker so the school knew our exact location of each student's watch.

Yesterday, Roku's watch was on the rooftop at the same time Kai was killed.

He had to be the killer.

That was what must've been going through the principal's mind.

Coupled with the fact that the school nurse received a report from me yesterday, detailing how Roku attacked two students. This established a history of violence.

"Enough of your lies. I will dismember you piece by piece. With every cut, you will regret what you've done till you beg for death." The principal was seething with rage. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't have to. Every word held an unimaginable weight.

I could see the panic rise on Roku's face as he finally realized just how serious the situation was.

"What the hell! I didn't even do anything…"

As the next words left Roku's mouth, suddenly a large gash appeared on his shoulder, causing a jet of blood to spray from the wound that had formed seemingly out of nowhere.

The principal was still in his position. It looked as if he didn't move an inch but we all knew that couldn't be true.

Roku roared in pain like a wounded beast as his eyes began to change. His once crimson eyes faded into yellow.

"Showing your true form, are you?" the principal said, which caused Roku to growl even louder.

Roku's entire body began to change form. Pointed black claws morphed from his fingertips as his skin turned to blood-red scales. Before me and every student in the classroom, Roku began to change into a giant lizard monster.

The same one I saw back in the dungeon. The same one that was feasting on goblin corpses.

The students erupted in a panic. The ones next to him bolted for the exit. Chairs and desks were thrown over in the chaos.

The principal was intent on killing Roku right here and now. Roku was an idiot, but he was smart enough to know this was a battle he couldn't win. His best choice was escape. For a moment, Roku's eyes darted to the window, but at the same time, our homeroom teacher appeared there.

The two had him cornered but he couldn't escape.

It was at that moment that I activated my ability.

I closed my eyes and focused on the molecules in the air around me. What I wanted to do was extremely difficult, and it required a lot of concentration. That was another upside of not having any emotions. I wasn't shaken by anything going on around me, so I could act calmly.

If anyone was watching me, all they would see was me flicking my wrist, and with that single action, I stripped the protons from the argon molecules present in the classroom. If you're familiar with the periodic table, you'd know that argon has 18 protons, so if I removed one proton, it would change to another element.

That element was chlorine which had 17 protons.

In another flick of my wrist, I forced the chlorine, nitrogen, and carbon molecules into a jagged molecular chain. Immediately, a vicious spray of white dust was produced; a white cloud spread through the entire classroom, turning every breath into a lungful of liquid fire.

Simply put, the result was tear gas.

The chemical binds to pain receptors, causing burning in the eyes, lungs, and skin.

Through the cloud of smoke, I could hear some of the students vomiting violently along with a lot of screams.

Due to this, both the principal and my homeroom teacher were forced to turn their attention away from Roku, allowing him to escape by leaping through the window.

My plan was a success.

I couldn't allow him to be killed by the likes of a demon hunter or an angel.

That privilege belonged solely to me.

After everything that happened today, the school had no choice but to send everyone home for the day after sharing the news of what happened to Kai. The students were shaken up. Some were even breaking down into tears.

Losing a classmate hit them hard. The students were encountering their first dose of mortality. Aaliyah, Kai's girlfriend, was among those who were deeply hurt by the news of his death.

The news even reached Jamie, who was Kai's best friend. Jamie was normally cold, but that was all a front; he cared for his best friend.

The entire school grieved for his death.

His parents were also notified, and his body would return to them as soon as possible.

Theodore, Oliver, and I walked back to our dorm rooms silently after washing our eyes out from the tear gas. None of us knew the words to say, so we said nothing, and each went to our separate dorm rooms.

Arriving at my dorm room, I opened the door only to be greeted by a not-so-pleasant surprise.

"Lilith…"
