Standing at the entrance of the rooftop, Sophia could hardly believe what she saw with her own eyes. When her brother texted her to come to the rooftop, she came as quickly as possible, but never did she expect to witness her brother murder someone.
He couldn't come back from something like this. No matter the reason he had, killing a student would follow him for the rest of his life.
Just then, Sophia remembered something. There were cameras on the rooftop.
Remembering this, she acted instantly. All the surveillance at the school was being monitored at the administrative wing. This wing was off-limits to students. This meant Sophia had to sneak in.
But for her, this was easier than most. She possessed several stealth skills which allowed her to hide her presence completely. With her skills activated, she moved swiftly through the administrative wing until she came upon a door marked 'Surveillance Room.'
Without wasting a second, she activated her 'Phase Shifting,' skill which allowed her to pass through solid objects for 5 seconds. This ghostly form made her look even more like the grim reaper as she passed through the door as if it wasn't even there.
Arriving inside the room, she saw the black box her brother told her about. Her eyes flashed with danger as she summoned her scythe in her hand and sliced through the device lying on the table, destroying all evidence of what had occurred. Her scythe had the ability to corrupt anything it touched, making whatever information on the device unrecoverable.
Seeing the black box destroyed, she felt a bit relieved. She hugged her scythe against her ample chest and suddenly, a slight blush began to appear on her face.
"Idiot, if you allow yourself to get caught, then how are you going to stay by my side?"
After destroying the device, Sophia faded through the door as if she was never there in the first place.
…
Kai's final breath came out as a strained, blood-curdling croak, and with that, he was dead. I could've ended his suffering much sooner than it lasted.
But why would I do something like that?
The more he suffered, the more sin points I received.
I had to admit, it wasn't as mundane as killing the goblins. Something about watching him die brought me a slight satisfaction.
Maybe it's because he said he trusted me.
I'm truly a demon.
[Sin Points +30 = 15/60]
[Demonic skill proficiency now at 0.6]
Just like that, I managed to increase my proficiency by 0.1. I felt satisfied seeing my stat increase but I had to put it aside for now and instead turned my attention to the girl shivering in the corner of the rooftop.
Luna was still alive and was unaffected by the carbon monoxide. Of course she was. Vampires were really hard to kill. They were like cockroaches.
In her fright, her eyes had turned to blood red.
It was hard to believe that this timid girl was a vampire and that she was the daughter of the man who once brought the human race to heel.
The signs were there about Luna's true nature. Her strange behavior and pale skin. Even the oversized hoodie she wore even in the heat was meant to protect her skin from the sun.
In this day and age, vampires had ways of protecting themselves from the sun, but the sun could still be irritating for some vampires. That was why she always made an effort to cover herself up.
Besides that, there was something else about her. I slowly stood up and approached the girl curled up in a corner on the roof and knelt down in front of her. Her body began shivering even more, and her eyes squinted as I reached out and removed her glasses.
Luna's glasses were exactly like mine. At first glance, she might look like a plain girl with no striking features, but once you removed them, you would be in awe by the beauty that lay beneath. It was a girl of ineffable beauty.
"Damien, I'm so sorry; it's all my fault. If I stopped running away, then…"
"Don't worry; it'll all be fine," I said before wiping the tears from hers.
Her skin was so soft.
She was like a delicate flower, untouched by the corruption of world.
There was something about the way she was trembling.
That needy way she looked at me to be her savoir...
No, not yet.
I quickly stifled the thought.
It wasn't her time to break yet.
The reason why she was so shaken up was because almost the exact scene played out when she was a little girl.
When he was young, Levi visited the vampire kingdom with his father. It was there that he rescued the vampire princess who was being kidnapped by a group of humans who had snuck into the territory.
That was when Luna began developing feelings for the MC. He comforted her and saved her, and despite her situation, he managed to make her smile.
A vampire's emotional state was far different from a demon's. They experienced emotions strongly, and it was those emotions for Levi that carried her for years. Which was why she wanted me to date Mia.
The shy, timid girl came up with a plan to manipulate me in order to get rid of her rival in love.
High emotions were also the reason for her overly timid behavior. She was a naturally timid girl, but it was amplified tenfold by her being a vampire.
Luna's eyes then drifted to Kai's body lying lifeless on the ground, which caused her to begin trembling even more. Seeing that she was almost about to have a full-blown panic attack, I pulled her in for a hug and shielded her against the sight.
"It's all my fault." She cried.
"Don't worry; I'll take care of it all."
"But how? You can't… You'll be severely punished for something like this."
Yes, I would. Kai's father was a high-ranked hero, and who was my father?
The school won't stop until they find the person responsible for killing one of their students. If it gets to that point, they may even call a guild for help.
"Don't worry; by tomorrow, this will all disappear," I assured Luna, stroking her hair as tears rolled down her delicate cheeks. "For now, just go home, and don't say anything to anyone. Come to school tomorrow as if nothing happened."
She looked confused by what I was saying, but in the end, she nodded her head and agreed.
I left the rooftop a few minutes after Luna, leaving Kai's body in the same spot. By the next morning, someone would've seen it.
After that, I waited at the entrance of my dormitory for about 5 hours until Roku finally returned.
"Nerd, what do you want?" he scowled.
I adjusted my glasses and spoke to him matter-of-factly.
"I came back to retrieve my watch. Upon further thought, I realized it wasn't a good idea to give away my watch in the first place since it held my personal data, which is crucial for my school life. If you so wish, I can transfer all my zencoins to your watch, instead."
"No need," Roku replied, removing my watch from his wrist. "I've already used all your coins. It's back down to zero."
"That's fine."
"Tch! Such a pushover," he spat before throwing my watch to me. I, in turn, gave him back his watch. "I had a good feast today. I wouldn't mind making this trade once again."
He gave me a wave as he walked away.
As Roku walked away, I couldn't help but be reminded of one of the only weaknesses a demon suffered from. It was said that every demon was an embodiment of the 1 of the 7 sins, which were pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.
Each demon was driven by one of these sins.
This weakness would be what led to Roku's downfall.
…
The next morning, I went to school as if nothing happened. When I got to class, Luna was already there, sitting in her seat. She looked as if she wanted to curl herself up into a ball, but I was glad she followed my advice and came back to school.
"Good morning," I said, giving her a nod.
"M-Morning," she stuttered out.
I then took my seat and began reading one of my science textbooks until Oliver and Theodore came up to greet me. It looked like their injuries had healed from them getting beaten up by Roku.
Oliver surprisingly bowed his head and apologized for blaming me yesterday.
"I'm sorry, man."
"Don't worry about it. If it weren't for my mistake, then you wouldn't have gotten beaten up by Roku in the first place," I said.
After that, it was time for class, and our homeroom teacher stepped into the classroom. Except, something was different this time. The normally energetic teacher now looked pale as she looked up at the students.
For a moment, she didn't say a word, which caused whispers to begin to spread around the classroom.
"Professor…"
Levi stood up to say something, but just then, the principal stepped into the classroom. His eyes folded into creases, and he wore a pleasant smile on his face.
Mishima Grimore, one of the greatest demon hunters in the current day.
Just from his presence, I immediately knew, he had found the body and was now here to punish the murderer.
Principal Grimore stood at the front of the classroom. His eyes folding into creases as he smiled like a kind old man. But in the next instant, his pressure washed over the entire classroom. This was the pressure of a man who had killed thousands of demons.
Humans could feel it, but for demons, it was ten times more immense. Principal Grimore had already found his target; he was just trying to weed him out. The principal then took a stance as if unsheathing a blade, even though he didn't have a weapon on him. But the moment he drew back his hand, a blade was pulled out of thin air.
It was a katana that was fully transparent, almost like glass. With the katana in his hand, he pointed it at his target and muttered:
"Demon…"
