The Venetian suite looks exactly the same.
Same view. Same ridiculously large bed. Same memories soaked into every surface.
But everything's different now. We're different now.
I arrive at 11:47 PM. Damien's already there. Standing by the window. Looking out at the Vegas lights like they hold answers.
"You came," he says without turning around.
"You asked me to." I set down my bag. "And I need answers. Real ones. No more lies. No more games."
"No more lies," he agrees. Turns to face me. "Ask me anything. I'll tell you everything."
He looks terrible. Exhausted. Thinner. There are shadows under his eyes that weren't there three weeks ago.
"Are you okay?" The question escapes before I can stop it.
"Define okay." He almost smiles. "I'm alive. I'm functional. I'm—" He stops. "I'm dying inside being away from you and Hope. But I'm okay."
"Your father. Agent Chen said he knows you've been working against him. That you're in danger—"
