Chapter 13 - 13. Legacy Unveiled

The weeks following Zara's tragic end blurred into a tapestry of grief and determination. The great hall, once ruined by shadow and claw, was rebuilt stronger—beams reinforced, banners rewoven with fresh threads of crimson and silver. The pack mourned collectively: a pyre under the full moon, stories shared around fires, Zara remembered not as traitor but as sister lost to manipulation. Forgiveness flowed, slow but genuine, binding Thornmoon tighter.

Leon bore the heaviest weight. Nights found him on the battlements, staring at the horizon where Ironspine loomed dark. Akira joined him always, her presence a balm through the bond—silent support, or fierce words when guilt gnawed too deep.

"You couldn't have saved her from herself," she said one frost-kissed evening, arms wrapped around him from behind. "But you honored her in the end."

He turned, pulling her close, lips brushing her temple. "With you, I endure."

Their lovemaking became an anchor—urgent some nights, reclaiming life amid loss; tender others, healing wounds unseen. Fangs reaffirmed marks, bodies entwined until exhaustion claimed them, the bond weaving comfort deeper.

Spring thawed the mountains, bringing reports of quiet borders. No whispers of corruption. The vial's destruction seemed final.

Until the changes began.

Akira noticed first: scents sharper, emotions heightened, a faint warmth blooming low in her belly during training. She dismissed it as Moonthorn fluctuations—until morning sickness struck one dawn, sending her retching over the chamber basin.

Mia confirmed it days later in the infirmary, hands glowing softly over Akira's abdomen. "A pup," the healer smiled, eyes shining. "Strong heartbeat. Conceived under the mourning moon, perhaps—a light from darkness."

Akira sat stunned, hand pressing where life stirred. Joy flooded her, chased by wonder…and a flicker of fear. Their world had known too much threat.

She told Leon that night, in their chambers aglow with firelight.

He entered weary from council, shedding armor piece by piece. Akira waited on the bed, clad in nothing but his discarded shirt, the fabric draping her curves. Nervous energy thrummed through the bond.

"Everything alright?" he asked, sensing it immediately.

She stood, taking his hands and guiding them beneath the shirt to her bare stomach—still flat, but holding their future.

"More than alright," she whispered. "We're growing our legacy."

Leon froze, predator senses confirming before words. His palms splayed wide, feeling for the tiny spark. When the faint second heartbeat reached him, he dropped to his knees, forehead pressing to her skin.

"A pup," he breathed, voice breaking. Golden eyes lifted to hers, raw with awe. "Our pup."

Akira nodded, tears spilling. "Yours and mine."

He rose slowly, cupping her face for a kiss that started reverent—lips soft, tasting salt—and ignited into fierce possession. Hands roamed gently, mapping her body with new wonder. The shirt fell away; he lifted her to the bed, following her down.

"Tell me if it's too much," he murmured against her throat, fangs grazing the mating mark.

"Never too much," she gasped, arching into him. "I need you."

Their joining was exquisite—slow, deliberate strokes, his body worshiping hers. Leon's hand stayed on her belly, feeling every movement as pleasure built. Whispers of love, promises for their child, mingled with moans. Release crashed over them together, bond flaring brilliant, sealing the miracle deeper.

Afterward, he held her close, ear to her stomach. "Boy or girl?"

She smiled. "Strong either way. Like us."

The public reveal came at the next full moon gathering.

The pack assembled in the courtyard—warriors, families, elders—under silver light. Leon and Akira stood on the dais, hands linked.

"Our trials forged us unbreakable," Leon declared, voice carrying. "And now, the moon blesses us anew. Queen Akira carries our heir—the future of Thornmoon."

Howls erupted—joyous, thunderous. Jaden rushed the dais, hugging Akira tightly. "I knew it! The best aunt gift ever—no, uncle. I'm uncle!"

Lara laughed through tears, embracing them both. "Finally, mini versions of you two terrors."

Elowen bowed, pride shining. "The bloodline endures."

Kai clasped Leon's forearm, rare grin breaking. "Congratulations, Alpha. The pack celebrates tonight."

Feasts followed—music, dancing, pups shifting playfully. Leon danced with Akira slowly, hand protective on her waist. Whispers of names, dreams for their child, filled the night.

In quiet moments later, on their balcony, snow long melted into spring blooms, Leon knelt again—kissing her belly.

"To our legacy," he said.

Akira threaded fingers in his hair. "To our family."
