Chapter 11 - Boss

[You have received a quest!]

[Pick up the medicine and use it to heal yourself.]

[Reward: None!]

A strange quest window popped up before the red-haired woman. Her name was Kaya, by the way. It appeared the moment the man in front of her took the medicine from his doll and pushed it toward her.

In the small container, the medicine looked like a green pill that couldn't possibly contain much healing power. The quest didn't offer any reward either, though by now she could tell this man truly controlled the dungeon.

I'd better take it.

With a cautious breath, Kaya picked up the pill and placed it on her tongue.

A moment later, she swallowed and closed her eyes.

Her body heated up as a burst of vitality began mending her wounds and even filling her with temporary nourishment. Her hands burned, but it was the kind of pain that felt comforting.

She was truly being healed.

[You have completed your quest.]

[You have received a new quest.]

[The handsome man wants to know whether you need more help. Express your current state in body language.]

[Reward: None!]

This dungeon's gone crazy… and this dude thinks he's handsome. The nerve.

Keeping her face neutral was a pain.

Kaya stole a glance at Azrael's face and let out a quiet, annoyed sigh. He hadn't noticed the small cue, but Mary had, and her sneer widened. It amused her, for sure.

Following the quest's instructions, Kaya shook her head with a smile.

She didn't need more medicine, that single pill took care of everything she needed right now. If possible, she'd have loved to learn more about the man and confirm her worst suspicion, but she already knew enough.

I've got to stick close and keep him alive. He's valuable.

Across the dungeon, countless silver lights suddenly flared.

A group of 5 men materialized, equipped in leather armor, with weapons strapped to their waists. All of them were bulky, tall, and bald, with scars running across their faces and scalps.

The moment they spotted Kaya still looking weakened, their eyes lit up and lustful sneers curled across their faces.

"It's cleared and about to be destroyed, huh?"

"But the real reward is still up ahead."

"Yeah, let's snatch her. She looks like one of those beast-blooded types."

Reaching for her spear, Kaya tightened her grasp around the shaft, ready to pull it free.

A new system window interrupted before she could move.

[You have received a new quest!]

[Stay still and let the handsome deal with the savages.]

[Reward: None!]

Your trick will only work once! You can't just...

[A boss has appeared in the dungeon.]

[The Death Seesaws Dungeon has been stirred awake.]

[You can't leave the dungeon until the boss is defeated.]

On this single floor, there was only one person who could become the boss.

Azrael.

His stats hadn't gone up at all from obtaining the title, but his presence now stood out from everyone else.

Gloves on, he smiled broadly at everyone staring at him. It was a childlike smile, very different from the others, even as he looked at Kaya.

That smile carried his message to her.

"This is my turf."

Is he actually handsome?

After Azrael conquered the dungeon, he was no longer the Main Conqueror.

He now had the option to assign bosses to his dungeon and even control its already established laws. With those 2 privileges combined, he became the most overpowered boss the Death Seesaws Dungeon could ever see.

All the seesaws animated and lined up, forming a bridge across the chasm.

Without rushing, he walked across it toward the group.

"△ □ ○!"

"○ △ □, □ ○ △?"

"□ ○, △ □ ○."

They traded quick looks, clearly rattled.

They'd never seen a human dungeon boss before. No one wanted to make the first move, either, let alone step onto those seesaws first.

Azrael couldn't understand them, but he could guess what was going on.

One of the invaders suddenly chucked a dagger at him. It flew fast, glinting with menace.

The weapon bounced off an invisible wall, not even leaving a crack.

Stopping in the middle of the bridge, Azrael waited.

Still, no one dared to cross the makeshift bridge to attack him.

"I'll make a move, then," he said.

Near the group, a seesaw shivered and peeled itself off the bridge. It rose and hovered over their bald heads, threatening to drop at any moment.

Azrael sent it straight down at them.

The men drew their swords and met the falling seesaw head-on. Mana surged through their arms as steel screeched against metal.

They held it for a heartbeat, roaring, then shoved it aside.

"Here's another one," Azrael said.

A second seesaw dropped. Their faces twisted, but they cut it apart and kicked the pieces away. One half tumbled into the chasm.

"And another one," he said.

"○ □ △!"

"△ ○ □?"

"□ △ ○, ○ □ △!"

More seesaws rained down until the men's arms trembled.

Then the barrage ended.

Azrael blinked into their midst and kicked the nearest man straight into the chasm.

The others surged at him.

He blinked behind one and drove a boot into his spine, shoving him onto his friend's blade.

Two more rushed past the bloody mess, unknowingly crossing into Azrael's Conditional Sphere. Gravity slammed down on them tenfold, and they dropped to their knees.

Their legs gave out fast after the barrage.

Azrael blinked to the first kneeling man, seized his head, and drove a knee into his face.

He pivoted to the second, caught him by the head, and slammed him into his partner.

As the 2 tangled, Azrael blinked again and kicked one of them hard, slamming him back down.

Off to the side, the blade-holder yanked his blood-covered sword out of his buddy's gut and staggered toward the fight.

He couldn't cross the edge of the Conditional Sphere, so he hacked at it in desperation. Watching his friends get outplayed and killed by a boss put something ugly in his eyes.

Azrael didn't slow. He crushed a skull under his heel and finished the rest inside his zone.

When the Conditional Sphere vanished, he finally caught his breath.

At the same time, the last enemy lunged, sword aimed for Azrael's neck.

Azrael stepped aside and shot his hands forward. He caught both wrists, twisted, and disarmed him, then tossed the sword into the chasm.

A flurry of punches followed, turning the man into a punching bag.

When Azrael stopped, the man toppled unconscious and hit the floor face-first.

Azrael stood still.

It's much easier now that I can weaken them. Blink is nasty against weaker opponents, especially with Conditional Sphere.

A new system window appeared.

[The Chasm Of The Death Seesaws Dungeon has devoured an armed human.]

[The Bronze and Silver Chests' item pools have been increased.]
