"OH MY GOSH!!! AREN'T YOU THE MOST ADORABLE THING EVER!!!" The boy screamed as staring at the creature in his arms (it might be helpful to know that by now, the boy's vision was back and in sync with his other senses). Two little horns on its head, reptilian eyes, short and stubby legs, a tail as big as its own body, and light green fur. It was basically an oversized furry lizard with horns but a thousand percent cuter. The boy rolled the lizard around in his arms to examine it full but then realized it was still crying.
"I'm sorry little one but what is chasing us either wants to eat me or you maybe even both, couldn't risk it till I could identify clearly" the boy tried to explain to the lizard but it didn't seem to understand him.
The boy understood that the lizard couldn't tell what he was saying so he figured he might as well find out what was chasing them to decide what to do next and once he saw it, the pieces of the puzzle finally started to fit together. What was chasing him was an exact copy of the lizard he was holding except it was light blue rather than green and it had wings.
There were two of them on him when he first woke up, he wasn't going crazy, but the blue one probably wasn't that entranced in licking his blood as the green one was and it flew out of his grasp. The reason it never attacked the green lizard and only attacked him is that the green one is something important to the blue one and it saw him as a threat due to the green one's cries. A little more thinking and the boy knew his next step..
The boy bent down to his knees and gently put the green lizard on the ground. The green and blue lizards both seemed to be confused about the boy's actions as they thought he was taking the green lizard home to eat but now all of a sudden, the boy released the green one even though he didn't look hurt or tired. The blue one flew in circles observing the boy for any unusual movement in case it was a trap. The green one stopped crying and turned around to see what the boy's plans were.
"Dont even know if you can understand me but I'll say it anyway." The boy then proceeded to lower his head
"I'm sorry for scaring you, just got a little too excited and was doing whatever came to mind". The green lizard was not understanding and just till its head as to try to figure out what the boy was saying. The boy realizing words werent gonna get through, made made a shooing gesture with his hands to convey that he's letting it go and even took a couple steps back.
The green lizard, seeing its chance to escape, ran away but not too far. It stopped a little way away and looked back at the boy and smiled but before anything else could happen, the blue one swooped down to grasp the green one to carry it away once realizing it wasn't a trap. The boy just stared with a smile on his face even though deep down he hoped for them to stay with him but knew that was him being selfish as he basically traumatized one of them.
Even then he waved goodbye to the lizard as they disappeared off into the distance. The blue one never looked back but the green one kept their eyes on the boy as there wasn't much for it to do. Confused once more about the gesture the boy was doing, it tilled its head but after a while found it amusing so it copied the boy and smiled back while waving.
The boy saw this and it warmed his heart as it gave him hope for having some company in the future even if it wasn't the lizard pair.
Once the lizards were far enough, never out of sight due to the boy's exceptionally great vision, the boy snapped back to reality and realized the environment he was in but it didn't look pretty at all.
It was a desert, no even worse than that. It was a wasteland but worse. At least they had signs that life once lived there but here, nothing but rocks and mountains and even with the boy's vision, that was all he could see. There might be more behind the mountains but the odds didn't look too great as some mountains behind the ones the boy could see were just as barren. But that didn't crush his hopes as the lizard pair proved that there is life here, it's just hidden.. some…where…..
The boy realized something important. While watching the lizard pair disappear, the green one showed no concern about anything but the blue one seemed to be scared and was flying faster than it was chasing the boy. Maybe it just didn't want the boy to catch up but that made no sense as if it went as fast as possible, it would tire out. Instead, the blue lizard seemed to be more focused on getting as far as possible and FAST.
The boy started to run as fast as possible as he realized, the reason there was no life in the open was for a reason, everything here was hiding just waiting for something else to make the first move. The boy with extensive knowledge knew this one happens in some situations.
The first situation this happens in is where both, or in this case all groups, are equal in strength and so the only move is to wait for an opening or for the opponent to make the first move. The second situation is when the both are new and inexperienced so they don't know how to make the first move so they are just waiting for a chance.
The first one also more commonly happens with powerful beings/groups, while the second one happens at the beginning of something so everyone is learning the best strategy. By the looks of the evidence of many fights happening here, it was not a new place and the battles weren't of small creatures but of large and powerful creatures.
The boy had made a lot of commotion with his awakening and meeting with the lizards. The boy prayed that it wasn't enough to alert whatever was living here or maybe that they would awaken once he was far enough to be safe but sadly life ain't far as the ground shook and broke at the emergence of the behemoth creature raising for the ground.
They looked physically impossible to happen naturally, like straight out of a giant mech vs Kaiju movie. The monster didn't look like they were here to have a tea party either, they were for sure here for blood and guts and standing right in the middle of it all was the boy.
