Chapter 17 - The Raven Society

My hands were uncontrollably trembling, as I failed to mask my shock behind my mask. Before me was something I thought mythological, even after I was kidnapped to another world by a giant hand.

What gave me the clue were his fangs and ears. Far too pointed to be that of a human being's ears and far too large and sharpened to be that of a human canine.

If my suspicions were right, this was a Demonoid.

I looked at my potential foe, his hypnotic and slow manner of speech seemingly putting me in a trance. My head spun with thoughts, the shock palpable enough to put me in a vegetative state.

I was in a daze, unresponsive and deadpan.

I knew this feeling, the cold unending waves of sweat running down my spine, the sudden heart rate increase that surged blood through me so fast I felt like fainting and the unstoppable trembling and nausea.

This was fear, and this time, not just any fear, but the fear of death. My face paled out, and my thoughts went blank. The only fleeting hope was to fight and somehow bring him along with me in death.

My trembling hand summoned Adamantiour, as I clasped it with a shaky confidence.

I knew deep down that I stood no chance before a being with his magnitude of natural blood lust.

I took a somewhat, depressed fighting stance, trying to mask my obvious fear.

" Whoah!! Kid calm down!!

If I were here to shed blood, you'd be dead by now... ..."

Although I sensed no lie in his words, the unease just wouldn't fade, my hands still trembled, my voice wouldn't come out, no matter what I did.

Still trying to force out words, I was suddenly shocked when he blurred and reappeared Infront of me.

" I can tell by your aura you're not one of The Ravens. Could that mean your family is part of the resistance force against the holy knights?!... ..."

I was stunned.

Someone who hadn't even met me before, deduced my entire life with one guess?!

I realized instantly that he was infact responsible for my recent feeling of being watched I had been experiencing. But how could he know so much when he had only been watching me recently?

The only deduction was that he'd been watching Alesha before Sir. Henwick died.

The only question now, was why he couldn't save Sir Henwick? Perhaps the being before me was holy knight spy?!

He confirmed my suspicion of him monitoring Alesha, but seemed to have not predicted the death of Sir Henwick. He then made a proposition that left me still in shock.

He suppressed his dark aura and put a hand on my shoulder. My golden eyes were still glowing bright, ready to exploit the slightest opening should anything happen.

" Why don't I keep my mouth shut, on the condition that you do something for me in return. Do we have a deal?! ".

I tried my hardest to find his reason for offering something like this on the spot. With a look of scepticism, I questioned just what he wanted in return for his silence.

" It's simple really, become my disciple and the disciple of Miss Audrey and you have my silence".

His response, made me ponder whether Miss Audrey knew of my secret Identity. I voiced my speculation but got a negative response.

" You see kid, your aura alone tells me that you're not just a Photon Knight. You have larger traces of mage type powers hidden behind the mirage of swordsmanship you claim to only possess. Believe me, nothing fools the eyes of a demonkin".

I knew instantly that my speculations were correct. The body and demeanour was far to monstrous to be humane. I reluctantly agreed to his condition and shook his hand.

" Good, as your master, I'm now entitled to your safety. In return, you will learn how to truly wield that untamed power within you, through sword training.

As for your night runs, I will be accompanying you occasionally. Make sure you don't get caught. I'd rather not disappoint Christopher by letting his first prodigy in fifty years die.".

I wondered why a demon was siding with a human. From what I had heard and read in articles, the peace between humans and demons was becoming thin, paper thin. He seemed to be friends with the headmaster, since he mentioned his name far too casually. If a friend of the headmaster was this strong, I wondered just what sort of monstrous magic the so called, Nine Circle Saint, wielded.

I was planning to head back to campus since my night had been way too eventful, only to be stopped mid step.

" Wait, where are you going? The night is still young and I'm not going back without slicing up some kidnapping scum".

His words made me wonder whether the demonkin before me was a battle hardened junkie. I realized I hadn't even asked for his name with all that was happening.

" Oh silly me, pardon my manners... ...

You may call me, Wilfred Von-Demiose. Pleasure to meet you, young master Grimmseley ".

After that encounter, we spent the entire night hunting kidnappers. The kidnappers belonged to an organization I hadn't heard of before. And I was dead sure my family knew nothing of it.

" The Raven Society: a group founded by Arch mages who lost their station in the world after peace was settled between the five races. They worship an imaginative fierce god they call, The Great Raven Lord. Believing he wishes for the death of all things, the Raven Society is hell bent on causing destruction and breaking the human-demon alliance".

The minute I returned to my dorm room, I had my family messenger owl deliver the information to my parents back in the Vansneath domain.

After which, I begrudgingly accepted Miss Audrey's proposal to be her student after along explanation of why I wrote what I wrote in the theory test.

As the petals of lilies fluttered in the summer breeze blowing through the school, I walked to my first official magic theory class, a stout pink haired girl walking beside me. We were engrossed in an interesting conversation about the constitutes of a magic circle and certain conditions that trigger a forced circulation.

Infact, the conversation grew so interesting that we failed to notice the gazes of people around us, both senior year and junior year students. From behind us, a hesitating voice finally gathered the courage to shout for our attention.

Hey!!!

I turned around, Lucy slightly hidden behind me as her left hand clung instinctively to get edge of my coat. We had bonded over our shared curiosity for magic theory.

Our caller, a slightly well proportioned young lady with flowing sky blue hair, walked towards us, seemingly hesitating to speak.

The crowd was in awe that two of the most popular freshman beauties was talking to a mundane looking person such as myself. Personally, I was fine with walking with Lucy, but the attention around the girl before me was way too much.

" Umm, I'm sorry for my friend's outburst back at the announcement hall, I hope we can start over, my name is Aliyah Terafania, I'm in the same class as you".

Lucy's face seemed to contort, a look of dissatisfaction evident.

Had I accidentaly gotten the student of the Hell-Borne Witch to fall for me?!!

I accepted her apology introducing myself as well as Lucy, who gave a subtle yet obvious warning to Aliyah.

From afar, the same ticking time bomb of a girl that had caused my embarrassment earlier was coming, a look of disdain visible on her face.

She shuved me aside, blocking my hand as Aliyah tried to shake back.

Lucy wanted to turn her into a corpse doll then and there, but I managed to hold her back.

What happened next was quite alarming. A sudden slap resounded through the garden, drawing the attention of both the ignorant and attentive passer-bys alike.

They saw Shuna clutch her right cheek from the pain, eyes dilated from the shock. In a stutter, she questioned.

" W~why?".

Aliyah had a disgusted expression, tinged with visible rage.

" Who invited you into this conversation Shuna!!!!".

I had only seen her this angry when she lost to Sir Knoltlese in the assessment dual. It was at that moment I knew that even popular people had trouble socializing. Her problem, was Shuna.

Shuna shot me a look of utter disgust, as if hinting with her expression that she'd get revenge. She ran off, leaving the crowds stunned at Miss Aliyah's boldness.

I was sure that from then on, my school life had taken a sudden, one hundred and eighty degree shift. I brassed myself for whatever rumors this encounter might present as Aliyah asked whether she could accompany us to class.
