Chapter 9 - Friday

Today is Friday. The weekend is almost here. Meaning, I get to have two whole days with my wife.

I pack up my work materials and pass a coworker on the way out the door.

"Yo! Wanna get a drink?" This random coworker, unimportant, NOT my wife, asks.

"No. I have to go straight home today." I reply.

"Why? It's Friday. Lighten up man!" The rando replies.

"Can't. I have to check in on my wife." I reply, walking towards the entrance of the building.

"Why? What's your wife got to do with anything?"

I whip my head around.

"You don't know my wife…" I saw in a low tone. "She never takes care of herself. She could die if I don't check in on her."

"That's a little dramatic… don't you think?"

"With my wife? Never."

I walk out of the building.

I get out of my car and open the front door. I see my wife with candles in a summoning circle in the living room with her phone in the center… ah, she's playing a new gacha game that recently came out.

"Sweetie… what did I say about summoning demons on the living room carpet?"

"But it's a cute demon!!" She counters.

I look her over. Messy hair style, oversized hoodie that is most definitely mine, fuzzy socks, and not to mention the wedding band on her finger which I made sure was up to her standards when purchasing before the wedding. Good. Nothing changed too much when I left this morning.

I walk over and pick her up, sitting on the couch with her in my lap. I hug her and speak in a gentle tone.

"Honey, you can't summon demons in the living room. We talked about this."

She frowns.

"I know…"

"So why are you trying to summon them?"

"Because it's cute…"

"But you can already get them in the game?" I question.

She shakes her head.

"No… I lost the 50/50…"

"Oh sweetheart…"

I comfort the wife. Then I pull out my wallet from my pocket.

"Take my card. Use it to get the demon. Just… not in real life. Okay?"

She nods, taking the card.

"Okay…"

I kiss the top of her head.

"Good. Now, I'm going to cook dinner tonight. You get your little demon and clean up this mess. And no more open flames on the carpet!"
