Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Guilliman's Shock

Datch fired up the jetpack.

Powerful flames erupted from the thrusters, launching him like an arrow.

This quest reward was incredible.

Even heavy Cataphractii Terminator armor was no problem—and way cooler than a Bamboo-copter.

A walking good omen—invincible. Who in the world could stand against me now?

Live hard, traitors—your big daddy has arrived.

Soon, the first victim appeared.

A charging Chaos Marine heard a roar behind him, turned, and saw a shining eagle-crested Terminator coming his way.

Bang——!!

The next second, the Chaos Marine flew, crashing through a pillar and smashing a spiderweb of cracks into the wall.

"Ha! Ha! Ha!"

Seeing his foe fly, Datch's playful side emerged. He holstered his chainsword and rod,

pulled out his super shotgun, and donned his helmet.

He cranked the jetpack to max, charging every enemy in his path.

His shotgun blasted heads apart—one shot, one kill.

Guilliman ran his sword through a Black Legion Helbrute,

golden fire consuming it to ash.

Whoosh!!

Datch rocketed past him, smashing a Chaos Terminator, giggling under his helmet.

Guilliman: "..."

Are Astartes all this crazy now?

Laughing during battle—reminds me of Orks!

Next second, two Berserkers targeted Datch,

shouting Khorne's name as they hacked him apart.

Guilliman felt a pang of sorrow at this loss of life.

How many must die for humanity to escape this darkness?

But a moment later, Datch revived, slammed the Berserkers to death,

then blew their heads off with his shotgun.

Guilliman, still mourning, thought: Uh...

Can I have my sorrow back?

But—how does he revive so fast? Is he related to Vulkan, or blessed by the Emperor?

Guilliman pushed the thought away—there were more pressing matters.

The Black Legion went utterly mad—

these traitors would pay any price to kill the Primarch.

But reality quickly shattered their naïve hope.

The Primarch alone could sweep them aside—

the Emperor's Sword cut wide arcs of golden flame.

The Hand of Dominion, crackling with energy, unleashed storms of fire or ripped through armor.

Every strike sent limbs flying.

Enemy after enemy died before the Primarch.

Mutated Marines halted, shrank back,

and fled—the Primarch alone turned the Chaos tide.

He strode to the fallen, barely-breathing Marneus Calgar.

"My son."

Guilliman looked down at Calgar.

Calgar forced one eye open to gaze at the reborn Primarch,

eyes wide with shock, disbelief, and joy.

Cawl and Celestine hadn't lied—they really had revived the Primarch.

"Gene-father," Calgar rasped.

Seeing his son alive, Guilliman smiled with relief, then launched himself at the Black Legion once more.

He would not let a single enemy leave the Sanctum alive.

With everyone working together, the invaders were soon routed.

Some, seeing defeat, tried to collapse the doors with bombs, hoping to trap the Primarch inside.

When the fighting stopped and the guns fell silent,

Guilliman found himself facing a blocked passage.

He asked his sons to call in a Stormraven.

"Lord Regent, is there anything I can help you with?"

Datch saw a golden question mark above Guilliman's head and hopped over.

Guilliman studied Datch, frowning.

"Can you tell me who you are—?"

Before he could finish, Datch interrupted.

"Skip, skip. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Guilliman blinked, meaning to ask about Datch's origins or Chapter, but Datch cut him off again, asking for his next quest.

"Lord Primarch, this Emperor Angel only talks about missions, never answers any other questions,"

Tigurius explained.

"He never answers, only does missions?" Guilliman asked, perplexed. "What can he do, then?"

"Many things. If you tell him, he might be able to help," Tigurius replied.

"I see." Guilliman considered, then turned to Datch.

"Nameless warrior, please help me drive out the invaders on Macragge."

A new mission prompt appeared for Datch.

[Mission: Assist the Thirteenth Primarch in repelling the invaders on Macragge.

The Primarch has returned, but Chaos still runs rampant. Help Guilliman drive them out completely.

Reward: 1000 XP, 1000 Points, Reputation +100, Wind Bottles x5]

"I am honored to serve, Lord Regent."

Datch accepted, ran to the blocked gate, pulled out a mithril pickaxe,

and began to chip away—turning the obstacles into floating cubes, opening a path.

Guilliman's eyes went wide.

Yvraine, the Ynnari, and Tigurius—none of them had ever seen anything like this.

How did he turn those obstacles into little cubes?!

Unbelievable.

Is this even the same universe they once knew?

It feels so unfamiliar now!

Datch ignored their shock, cleared the passage, and ran off to hunt down fleeing traitors.

Guilliman forced himself to suppress his own shock,

rushing out onto the battlefield behind the path Datch opened.

Everything else could wait—clearing the enemies came first.

The surviving warriors followed,

determined not to let a single traitor escape Hera Fortress.
