I looked at Dennis with deep affection and gratitude as he said, "Mom, I read the letter you gave me, and I also wrote one for you."
I was surprised and touched. "Really, Dennis? You wrote me a letter?"
Dennis nodded, handing me the letter. "Here, Mom. I'm sorry for what happened today."
I took the letter from Dennis, my eyes full of emotion. "Thank you, Dennis. I'm sorry too, for the things I said and did today."
Dennis smiled, his eyes filled with understanding. "It's okay, Mom. Don't worry too much. Why don't you order some takeout for dinner, and I'll clean up the table?"
A sense of relief washed over me as I heard those words from my son. "Thank you, Dennis. I'll do just that."
Dennis began to clear the table while I placed an order for dinner. A feeling of peace and warmth spread through my heart. Dennis was truly my greatest source of strength.
That evening, after Dennis had gone to bed, I sat on the sofa, holding his letter in my hands. I opened it and began to read. Dennis's words appeared before me, filled with sincere and heartfelt emotions.
"Dear Mom,
I'm sorry for today. I tried to guess what you were thinking and assumed I knew what was best for you. But I realize now that I was wrong.
I just want you to be happy and to be brave enough to accept happiness again. I didn't mean anything else; I just don't want you to be alone and tired anymore. I know you've gone through so many difficulties and sacrifices for me. You've always been strong, but I know you also need someone by your side, your own happiness.
I'm sorry for making you feel sad and uncomfortable. I promise I won't do that again. I will respect your decisions and always be there for you, supporting you.
I love you very much.
Dennis"
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I read Dennis's letter. His sincere words melted my heart. I realized that he truly understood me and loved me. He only wanted his mom to be happy.
I sat quietly for a while, reflecting on everything that had happened. I knew that I needed to open my heart more, not only for Dennis but also for myself. I had endured so much pain and loss, but it was time for me to accept happiness and love once again.
After reading the letter, I felt lighter. I decided that I would talk to Dennis the next day, letting him know that I understood and appreciated his love.
The next morning, I woke up early as usual and prepared breakfast for Dennis with a much lighter heart. When Dennis woke up and came into the kitchen, I greeted him with a warm smile.
"Good morning, Dennis," I said, my voice full of love.
"Good morning, Mom," he replied with a smile of his own.
We sat down to enjoy breakfast together. My heart was filled with joy and happiness. I knew that no matter the challenges, Dennis would always be there by my side, loving and supporting me.
After breakfast, I decided it was time to talk to Dennis about the letter. I knew that it was an opportunity for us to understand and connect with each other even more.
"Dennis, I read your letter," I began, my eyes filled with sincerity.
Dennis looked up, his eyes full of hope. "So, what do you think, Mom?"
I took a deep breath and said, "I was really touched when I read your letter. I understand that you just want me to be happy, and I'm so grateful for that."
Dennis felt a weight lift off his shoulders as he listened to me. "I just want you to not feel lonely and tired anymore. I want you to find your own happiness."
I nodded and took Dennis's hand. "I know, Dennis. I'll try to open my heart more, but I also need time. I hope you can understand and support me through this."
Dennis smiled, his eyes full of understanding and love. "I'll always be by your side, Mom, so don't worry."
Hope and trust filled my heart. I knew that I was no longer alone in my journey to find happiness. With Dennis by my side, I would be stronger and more determined, not just for myself but for my son.
After sharing my thoughts, the atmosphere between us became much more comfortable. We had a joyful and loving morning together. I felt as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, allowing me to breathe easier. Dennis also seemed more at ease, cheerfully saying goodbye before heading off to school.
It was another day of school for Dennis and work for me. I was busy at the office, but my mood had improved greatly after our heartfelt conversation. I worked diligently, focusing on my tasks, trying to complete everything as well as possible.
That evening, we had dinner together as usual. But today, after the meal, Dennis said he wasn't feeling well and asked to go to bed early. "Mom, I'm feeling a bit tired. Can I go to sleep early?" Dennis said, his voice weak.
I looked at him with concern but smiled gently. "Alright, sweetheart. You go ahead and rest. I'll finish cleaning up and come check on you."
Dennis nodded, then made his way upstairs to his bedroom. I quickly washed the dishes and tidied up the house, still feeling a bit worried about his health.
After finishing the dishes, I hurried to Dennis's room to check on him. When I placed my hand on his forehead, I was shocked to find that his body was burning with fever. He had fallen into a deep, feverish sleep, no longer conscious.
"Oh my God, Dennis!" I cried out in panic. I quickly carried him to the car, preparing to rush him to the hospital. But as I reached the car, I realized I had forgotten both my and Dennis's personal documents. I also remembered that I should bring along some essentials, just in case.
Frantically, I rushed back into the house to gather the necessary papers and supplies. I grabbed everything I could think ofdocuments, a change of clothes, medicine, and some snacks. My frantic movements made everything chaotic, and I felt like I was losing control of the situation.
At that moment, a car suddenly pulled up in front of my house. The window rolled down, and to my surprise, it was Jackie. "Elwyn, what's going on?" Jackie asked, his voice filled with concern.
I looked down at my trembling hands, realizing that in my current state, I wasn't in any condition to drive safely. I took a deep breath and turned to Jackie, who had appeared like an unexpected savior. My heart raced, and I hesitated, unsure of where to begin.
"Jackie…," I called out, my voice shaky. "Can you help me? I… I need to take Dennis to the hospital right away, but I can't drive like this."
Jackie looked at me, his expression full of care and determination. "Of course, I'll help. I wasn't planning to leave you alone. I was just heading home to park the car."
Hearing Jackie's words, my heart skipped a beat. Strange emotions surfaced within mesomething I hadn't felt in a long time. Warmth filled my chest, even if only for a brief moment. It was a sense of relief, trust, and a glimmer of hope.
Jackie quickly approached, gently lifting Dennis from my arms and placing him carefully in the backseat of his car. His actions were both strong and tender, making me feel protected.
"Let's go. We need to move fast," he said, his voice steady and full of resolve.
I nodded, trying to remain calm as I settled into the seat beside Jackie. I couldn't stop my heart from racing as I thought about his kindness and concern. I felt as though a burden had been shared, and within me, a soft but profound feeling of connection began to stir.
As Jackie drove with skill and speed, I couldn't stop glancing at Dennis in the back, my heart filled with worry. But at the same time, I couldn't help but look over at Jackie, feeling a sense of strength and reassurance from him.
"Elwyn, everything's going to be alright. Dennis will be fine," Jackie said, his voice gentle and comforting.
I looked at him, feeling a bit more warmth in my heart. The strange feelings and gentle stirrings inside me were becoming clearer, though I didn't fully understand them yet. I realized that I no longer had to face everything alone, and that brought me a deep sense of comfort I hadn't felt in a long time.
Maybe, just maybe, I had found a true companion.
