"This Kleavor is incredibly powerful. Ditto will have to stay sharp to handle this," Feng Che muttered, his eyes locked on the raging prehistoric predator.
In the heat of the battle, Feng Che had momentarily forgotten his original goal: finding the gifted young Scyther. Just then, a blur of teal light flashed across his vision. A small Scyther appeared on a nearby branch. It was only half the size of a standard one and its body was a patchwork of scars, both old and fresh.
The newcomer stared at the Kleavor with eyes full of pure, unadulterated hatred.
[Scyther: Damned Kleavor... you almost cleaved me in two last time. Didn't expect me to creep back, did you?]
Good heavens, look at all those wounds. How many battles has this little guy survived? Feng Che marveled. Scyther were known for their pride, viewing scars not as defects, but as medals of honor.
Pokémon: Scyther Gender: Male Potential: Outstanding (Deep Green) Ability: Technician Level: 8 Type: Bug / Flying Skills: Slash, Agility, Fury Cutter, Quick Attack, Leer, Metal Claw, Double Team, Double Hit, Focus Energy, X-Scissor, Iron Head, Swords Dance, Wing Attack, Air Slash, Endure, Bug Buzz. Status: Severely Wounded. Evaluation: A remarkably agile Scyther. Targeted for elimination by the territorial Kleavor since birth. Despite its youth, its survival instinct and growth potential are immense. Highly Recommended.
"Not bad at all," Feng Che nodded. He noticed its wings were unusually large, almost enveloping its torso. With that wing structure, it could sustain long-altitude flight—a rare trait that doubles its market and tactical value.
"Ditto, use Venoshock!" Feng Che commanded. "He wants to shred you with that stone vortex? Let's add some 'seasoning' to his storm."
Ditto-Yanmega spat a glob of purple-black toxin. The swirling winds of Kleavor's own Stone Edge vortex sucked the poison in instantly, dispersing it across Kleavor's body. The prehistoric bug let out a pained shriek as the toxin began to eat away at its stamina.
The vortex collapsed. Kleavor stood shaking, its face a sickly shade of green. Seeing its nemesis weakened, the young Scyther couldn't contain its rage any longer. It lunged, a teal streak aimed at Kleavor's throat.
"Ditto, protect that Scyther!"
[Kleavor: I knew you'd crawl back, whelp. I let you go once, but I've been waiting for you to take the bait.]
Kleavor crossed its stone axes, unleashing a massive X-Scissor beam. The young Scyther realized it was a trap, but the weight of Kleavor's pressure pinned it in place. It closed its eyes, awaiting the end.
Suddenly, a force slammed into it, knocking it out of the blast zone. It opened its eyes to see the Yanmega—Ditto—hovering protectively. The Yanmega gave a small, reassuring chortle before turning back to finish the job.
The Scyther tried to stand, but a sharp pain in its abdomen forced it back down. A deep gash had reopened, and neon-green blood was seeping into the grass.
"That's a nasty set of injuries for a newborn," Feng Che said, approaching with a serious expression. "Lucky for you, you ran into me." He began grinding herbs and berries in a mortar.
The Scyther was too exhausted to resist. It watched warily as Feng Che handed it a Stamina Potion. Smelling the sweet fruit, the starving creature drank it down. Warmth spread through its core, dulling the searing pain. It sat quietly, allowing Feng Che to apply a fragrant ointment to its scarred hide.
"Some of these are infected and swollen. If you'd waited a few more months, your potential would have been permanently damaged," Feng Che lectured softly. The usually aggressive Scyther didn't hiss; it simply listened, its eyes softening. For the first time, it wasn't feeling pain. It drifted into a deep, healing sleep.
In the clearing, the poisoned Kleavor's movements had become sluggish. Ditto played a game of attrition, using hit-and-run tactics until the massive bug finally collapsed. Feng Che threw a Poké Ball. Click.
"Time for the harvest."
Feng Che searched the remains of Kanjuuro, the Bounty Hunter. All he found were two worn Poké Balls, 2,000 Dollars, and a Guild ID. What a pauper. To think he had the gall to target a Kleavor with this trash, he thought.
However, the haul was still "three birds with one stone":
A rare Kleavor captured.
The Graveler needed for his Guild assessment (he transferred it using a Guild Ball).
A high-potential Scyther waiting to be recruited.
He released Kanjuuro's Weepinbell into the wild but kept the Graveler for the mission. With the Kleavor gone, the forest's natural balance would soon return.
That night, under a canopy of stars, Feng Che sat by a crackling bonfire. His team—Froakie, Ivysaur, Corvisquire, and the others—were feasting on his custom-made energy blocks.
The Scyther woke up, feeling lighter than it ever had. It found a blanket draped over its shoulders.
"You're awake. Try these," Feng Che said, placing a dish of energy blocks nearby. "I tailored them for your typing."
Scyther stood up and tested its wings. It was fast—twice as fast as before.
[Scyther: This human is a magician. I was half-dead, and now I feel like I could cut the moon in half. If I follow him, I can challenge the strongest without fear of my wounds.]
It looked around the campfire.
[Scyther: I might not be a match for that Yanmega yet, but I bet I can take these other little ones. I'm going to be the boss of this pack.]
Feng Che read its thoughts and nearly laughed. This guy has high ambitions but doesn't realize everyone here has been 'enhanced' by my potions. He's in for a rude awakening.
Scyther walked over to Litten, who was quietly grooming its fur by the fire. It viewed the small kitten as the weakest link. Scyther pointed a blade at Litten, shrieking a challenge.
Litten didn't even look up.
Enraged, Scyther used Slash, bisecting the bonfire between them. A stray spark landed on Litten's forehead.
The damage was zero. The insult was absolute.
