Chapter 124 - When the Snipe and the Clam Fight, the Fisherman Reaps the Rewards

"Is it a Scizor? No, that's not right."

Scizor's evolution requires very specific conditions; they shouldn't just appear naturally in a Kanto forest unless someone released one, Feng Che mused. Besides, Scizor's claws aren't designed to leave deep axe-like gashes in wood. And there are so many of them here.

He scanned the markings on the trees again, and a spark of realization lit up his eyes. "Could it be a Kleavor? That's an incredibly rare find!"

Kleavor is an evolution of Scyther triggered by a specific special ore, causing parts of its body to become as hard as stone. Its front scythes are replaced by two massive rock axes. These stone parts often chip during intense battles; the more battle-hardened a Kleavor is, the more its axes are chipped—and the sharper they become. A single swing from those heavy arms can cleave through targets with devastating destructive power. Moreover, they use these axes to mark their territory by felling trees.

Kleavor are notoriously territorial. They won't tolerate any other Pokémon in their domain—not even their own kind. I should back out quietly, Feng Che thought.

But it was too late.

Suddenly, two sharp flashes of light cut through the air. A towering, two-meter-tall Kleavor burst through the brush, cleanly bisecting the massive tree in front of Feng Che. Its ochre-colored stone axes were polished to a mirror-like finish.

Pokémon: Kleavor Gender: Male Potential: Outstanding (Yellow) Level: 36 Type: Rock / Bug Skills: Slash, Agility, Fury Cutter, Quick Attack, Leer, Metal Claw, Double Team, Double Hit, Focus Energy, X-Scissor, Iron Head, Swords Dance, Rock Tomb, Rock Throw, Stone Edge, Earthquake. Status: Enraged. Evaluation: An evolution triggered by rare minerals. Though its appearance is rugged, it is exceptionally rare—scarcely one in ten thousand Scyther achieves this. Capture it.

"Excellent. Another Pokémon I haven't officially recorded," Feng Che muttered.

While Feng Che faced off against the Kleavor, Kanjuuro remained hidden in the shadows, gloating. Hehe... let the monster and the boy tire each other out. Then I'll strike from behind and take everything.

"Kleavor, I didn't mean to trespass. I can leave immediately," Feng Che attempted to communicate.

The enraged Kleavor didn't listen. It swung its massive axe with a whistle of displaced air, aiming to cleave Feng Che in two. Feng Che didn't care about his image; he performed a desperate roll across the dirt to dodge the strike.

"Ditto-Arbok, use Acid!"

Ditto was Feng Che's highest-level Pokémon at Level 31, officially breaking into the Elite rank. It spat a stream of yellow-brown corrosive liquid. Kleavor swung its twin axes with blinding speed, creating a defensive wall that blocked the acid. However, the stone axes began to hiss and dissolve where the liquid touched them.

The stinging sensation of the acid ignited Kleavor's primitive fury. It let out a guttural shriek, its eyes turning blood-red as it lunged at the snake.

"Arbok, Iron Tail!"

As the battle intensified, Feng Che sensed the Bounty Hunter creeping closer behind him. Hmph. I've been watching you the whole time, he thought with a cold smile.

Hehe, just a little closer, Kanjuuro thought, clutching his dagger. Once his back is turned, I'll put this through his heart. Those starters will be mine.

He thinks he's the fisherman reaping the rewards? Feng Che's eyes flashed with blue psychic energy.

A palm-sized stone behind Kanjuuro suddenly lifted into the air and was hurled with psychic force, striking Kleavor square in the back of its head. The Pokémon stiffened. To its primitive mind, it felt like it had been slapped in the face by the person behind it.

Kleavor's eyes went from red to a terrifying crimson. It spun around, ignoring Arbok, and swung its axe with a roar toward the bushes where the stone had come from.

"What the—?! Why me?!" Kanjuuro screamed, scrambling out of the brush. He barely managed to dodge the axe, coming up covered in leaves and dirt. "Damn it! Graveler, use Rollout! Weepinbell, Razor Leaf!"

The Graveler curled into a ball and began to spin, though the uneven forest floor slowed its momentum. The Weepinbell hopped forward, launching a flurry of leaf-blades.

"Ditto, hide and transform into Yanmega," Feng Che commanded telepathically.

Ditto-Arbok blurred away in a zig-zag pattern, vanishing into the foliage.

"Hey! Where's your snake going?!" Kanjuuro turned to shout at Feng Che, only to find the boy had vanished as well. "That little brat! He lured the monster to me!"

Realizing he'd been played, Kanjuuro's face twisted. "Fine! One less witness. I'll take this bug for myself!"

His confidence was short-lived. Kleavor raised its heavy stone axe and slammed it down, meeting the rolling Graveler head-on. A massive crack spider-webbed across Graveler's rock armor. With a secondary swing, Kleavor batted the Graveler away; it smashed into a tree, snapping the trunk in half.

"Graveler!" Kanjuuro cried. That was his strongest Pokémon, defeated in two moves. Weepinbell's Razor Leaves were similarly swatted out of the air, fluttering to the ground in pieces.

"Weepinbell, use Vine Whip! Bind it!"

The vines snared Kleavor, and Kanjuuro let out a sigh of relief. "Good! Now use Stun Spore! Poison it slowly!" He reached for a Poké Ball. "Once I catch you, I'll hunt that brat down and take everything he has."

Stupid... truly stupid, Feng Che thought from his hiding spot. Does he really think a Weepinbell can hold a Kleavor?

Kleavor didn't even use a skill. It simply flexed, snapping the vines like thread, and then cleaved Kanjuuro's thrown Poké Ball in half mid-air.

"My ball!" Kanjuuro gasped. Suddenly, he felt a strange warmth on his hand. He looked down and saw it was covered in blood.

He tried to speak, but only a wet, gurgling sound came out. He clutched his throat, but the blood sprayed through his fingers. Kleavor had moved so fast the man hadn't even realized his throat had been opened. Kanjuuro collapsed, his eyes wide with disbelief as his life faded.

I expected more from a Bounty Hunter, Feng Che sighed. "Go, Ditto! Show this Kleavor what real speed looks like!"

As Kleavor turned to leave its "conquered" territory, a high-pitched hum filled the air. It spun around, swinging its axes, but hit only empty space.

[Kleavor: Impossible! My instincts said I hit it!]

Ditto, in the form of a Yanmega, was a blur of iridescent light. Thanks to the high-grade elixirs Feng Che had provided, its cellular activity was at a peak, allowing its speed in this form to reach levels that defied logic. Kleavor swung again and again, hitting only after-images.

Enraged, Kleavor raised its axes, channeling its rock-type energy. It began to spin, creating a localized sandstorm of sharpened stones—a Stone Edge-powered vortex. The wind picked up debris, turning Kleavor into a literal meat-grinder.

Fortunately, there were no other Pokémon nearby, or they would have been reduced to pulp in seconds.
