{Third Person POV}
'That boy... where is he up to now? It's past his usual hours,' Luna thought to herself as she started cooking dinner.
She then looked at the clock on the wall and read it. 'It's 7:20 p.m. now... he's usually home by 6:30 with Mordred... is Mordred dragging him into one of her rebellious acts?' Her eyes widened, and she let out a tired sigh.
After a few seconds, she shook her head to push away the image of Jaune wearing a leather jacket and sporting a bunch of piercings. 'No, Luna, no. Jaune isn't a boy like that. He's kind and loving. He would never do that.'
Luna looked back at the pan and continued cooking. 'And I should never think of Mordred dragging Jaune into doing that stuff. Mordred may be rebellious, but she isn't like that... wait... if she did... is it my karma? No, it can't be... right? When I was a teenager, I did a lot worse things than what Mordred does... I joined a gang and bullied my schoolmates.' Luna's face paled, and she swallowed.
But before Luna could spiral further into her thoughts, her body jolted as a hand touched her shoulder.
"Wha-" She jumped, looked behind her, and saw her husband raising an eyebrow at her.
"Miles! You scared me!" Luna shouted as she held her chest and tried to breathe. "I almost had a heart attack, you buffoon!"
Miles raised his hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry, but you can't blame me for this."
"Then who do I blame? You're the only one here! I thought you were training Jeanne." After a few seconds, she calmed down and turned her back to focus on the food, worried she would forget what she was doing and burn it.
"I already finished training Jeanne for today. She's in the bathroom washing up." He chuckled, then stepped in close behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Miles... stop that... you know we can't do it again..." Luna turned her head and looked up at him.
Miles chuckled and kissed her. "Well... I know we can't do that, but can't I do this?" He kissed her cheek and held her tighter.
Luna giggled and flicked her finger at Miles's hands. "Stop, or I'll burn the food."
"Okay, honey..." Even though Miles said that, he still didn't let go of her, which made her let out a fond sigh as she forced herself to focus on cooking.
"Have you seen Jaune and Mordred?" she asked. He answered with a shake of his head.
"No. The last time I saw them was at breakfast..." He sighed and kissed her ear. Even without him saying it outright, Luna knew what was weighing on his mind.
"Miles... it's been years now. Stop beating yourself up," Luna said as she looked up at him, because she knew he was still feeling guilty about what he did to Jaune.
"I know, Luna... but I still feel guilty, you know? I just imagine my own father doing that to me, and it's devastating..." He sighed again. "No wonder Mordred hated me. She even unlocked her Semblance because she was angry at me. I think she was genuinely trying to kill me. Did you see her face when she used her Semblance on me?" He looked at her with a pout that didn't suit his face or stature. "I don't think i ever wronged her... i don't even think i had ever yelled at her before.."
Luna chuckled and pinched his cheek. "Well, it is also kind of your fault." To her and everyone else in the family, it was obvious why Mordred did what she did, but sadly, the male side of the Arc family wasn't known for being as sharp as the girls. Luna could only hope Jaune didn't inherit that problem, because she already felt bad for his future girlfriend.
"What?! How?!" The look on his face told Luna everything. He was still as dense as ever.
Luna let out a tired sigh and pinched his cheek harder. "Miles... what was the reason Mordred fought with you? No, scratch that. What is the biggest reason Mordred always gets mad at you?"
"Um... Jaune?" he answered.
"Good boy." Luna let go of his cheek and patted it.
"Mordred isn't mad at you because you wronged her, Miles. She's mad at you because of what you did to Jaune." As she expected, her husband's mood fell again.
"I know... but what can I do? I already tried my best to train him, but not a single thing I taught him stuck, Luna..." He hugged her tighter.
"Then teach him harder. He's your son. Our son. You should never give up on him." She raised her voice, because even now, deep in her heart, she still didn't understand why he had given up on Jaune.
"I've already got my hands full. I was training both Artoria and Mordred while also doing missions. I can't do all of that while training Jaune, alongside preparing to train Jeanne." He tried to justify himself, but even it sounded false to him, let alone to Luna.
Luna glared at him. "Miles, I've known you since I was seventeen years old. I know that isn't enough to make you give up."
Miles gritted his teeth before he snapped. "I don't want him to die, okay? If he becomes a Huntsman, he will die. He's not suited to be one!"
Her eyes widened, and before she could speak, he cut her off.
"Every time I look at him, I see my father, Luna!" he shouted. "I can't watch him die too, Luna. I can't!"
"The way he holds his sword, the way he moves... I just can't. He is just like my father, Luna. I can't watch him die too..." Miles hugged her even tighter, to the point where she feared he would break her ribs.
She wanted to pull his arms away, but she stopped herself when she felt him shaking and her shoulder started to get wet. "Miles..."
"I can't, Luna... I don't want him to die too... he's my only son.... i don't want to bury my own son.."
"I can't."
[Author's Note: Tadaaa... now the truth comes to light, about the biggest reason why Miles gave up on Jaune's Training and why Jaune's training with Miles doesn't got any results.. its because Miles never intended for Jaune to finish his training because Miles doesn't want Jaune to be a hunter..... and before you ask about why i had to explain it in author's note because some readers on the first version of this book complained about it.. even when its already been explained.. yeah....]
