{THIRD PERSON POV}
"Okay... what's the plan? If it's something stupid, I'm tying you up on a log and making you ride the waterfall," Mordred threatened Jaune, though they both knew it was empty, judging by her grin.
'With that brain of his, he probably already has a good start on a plan... how good would it be? Probably better than mine...' Mordred thought to herself. From her experience with Jaune, she knew he was objectively smarter than her... not that she would ever admit it outloud. It would be a cold day in hell before she admitted she was inferior at anything to anyone.
"You remember Mr. Rock?" Jaune asked, a little worried she might have forgotten, considering they had talked about him about fifteen minutes ago.
"Dwayne, you mean? I still can't believe he has such a stupid last name. So, what's up with him and your plan?" She crossed her arms and tilted her head at him.
"Well, I overheard him talking about sailing to Vacuo because he has a big job to drop off some stuff there for a merchant," Jaune told her, explaining what he had heard the last time he was with Dwayne.
"That's... are you planning on hopping on the boat? Are you dumb? Won't he catch you?" A vein seemed to pulse on her forehead, but overall her reaction wasn't as bad as he expected.
Jaune had expected her to start throwing punches and hurt herself.
"Well... yeah... but I also have a plan for that," Jaune told her. She just looked at him and waited for him to explain further.
"He's going to sail to Vacuo in about two months, and with me helping around town, it wouldn't be strange if I helped him store the stuff he's sending to Vacuo. I could... you know... make a space big enough for my body and enough supplies to last until I arrive in Vacuo." Jaune hummed. "It'll be a tight fit, but I'm not that big, so it's fine. I could fit in between the boxes..."
Mordred stayed silent, then let out a sigh. "You're really going through with this, aren't you?"
Jaune nodded. "Yeah..."
"Shit... you do know what that means, right?" she asked again.
"Yeah... I know..." Jaune looked away.
"Look at me, Jaune." She grabbed his face and turned it toward her. "Look at me and tell me that you know what will happen."
"I know, Mordred. I know... Mom will be sad. Hell, the whole family is going to be sad... but I have no other choice, okay?! Dad will never let me go to combat school! Vacuo is my only choice, Mordred!" he answered.
After a few seconds of silence, Mordred let go of his face and looked away. "Okay... but on one condition."
"What is it?"
"You're taking me with you." She looked back at him and met his eyes directly.
His eyes widened before Jaune let out a sigh. "No... I can't do that, Mordred."
Mordred frowned at him. "Why? Why can't I go with you?!"
"Because it'll make it harder, okay?! If it's only me, then it's easier to hide. Dad doesn't know that I have Aura, but Dad knows about your Aura and Semblance," Jaune said before grabbing her hands. "With his connection to the headmaster of Beacon, it would be easy for him to ask the headmaster to look for a blonde girl with a red-colored Aura and a Semblance that uses red electricity, alongside a twelve-year-old blonde boy tagging along. The headmaster would most likely find us within months, because someone in a position that high would have people and connections in Vacuo."
Mordred looked at Jaune's hands before she scoffed. "And you think it won't be easier for him to find you?"
Jaune nodded. "Yes. It would take more than my hair color and eye color to find me, Mordred."
Jaune sighed. "The biggest advantage I have is that he doesn't know that I have Aura... and I need you here, Mordred, to help me."
"Help with what? I can't help you without being with you, dumbass," Mordred glared.
"I need you to distract him or give him false clues. He won't know that I hid inside Mr. Rock's ship and sailed away to Vacuo. He'll think I went through the woods..." Jaune squeezed her hand harder. "Please, Mordred... please. And I need you to take care of Mom too... please..."
Mordred looked into his eyes and tried to resist, but after a grueling ten seconds, she looked away and gave in.
"Okay... okay. I'll stay. But in the next two months, I want you to spend more time with me and the rest of the family. This could be the last time you see us for the next few years, Jaune..." Mordred pulled him into a tight hug.
Jaune let out a relieved sigh and rested his chin on her shoulder. "I will, Mordred. Arc's promise."
Mordred kept hugging him for a little while longer before she pulled away.
"By the way, Jaune... wouldn't it be easier for you if you faked your death?" Mordred said casually, as if it were normal.
"Huh? What?" Jaune asked, completely dumbfounded.
"I mean... it would take days, maybe even a week, before Dad knows you're not just lost in the woods, and it wouldn't take much thinking to realize you ran away," Mordred said, nodding to herself as if the idea were obvious.
"And if you faked your death-like leaving a few strands of ripped clothes covered with your blood-he would stop searching for you. Or he might keep searching, but he won't have as much support, because other people would think he's just a father who refuses to accept that his son is dead," Mordred explained. She expected him to look impressed, but when she looked at his face, he was pale with his mouth slightly open.
"That's... that's cruel, Mordred," Jaune said, swallowing hard. "It... it would hurt Mom and Dad too much. I'm already going to hurt them, but I can't hurt them that much." He shook his head, his expression settling back toward normal.
Jaune shook his head and grabbed her shoulders. "No. We're not doing that. We're sticking to my plan, okay?"
"Okay."
"Okay? I can't hear you," Jaune insisted, shaking her lightly by the shoulders.
"Okay! I give up! I'm going to vomit!"
[Author's note.... when i first wrote the first version of this story, a reader pointed out to me that Mordred doesn't give a rat ass about anyone other than Jaune, and that include the arc family.. like if Mordred get to choose between Jaune or anyone else in the family? She will choose Jaune all day everyday... and not gonna lie, i never actually planned for her to be like that.. but i'm not complaining, i think i fleshed out Mordred's character pretty well and maybe will make her stay that way until arc 5-6.. which with my current trajectory, would be like.. chapter 270 or close to 300 (i hadn't write up to there yet, it could be sooner or later).. i planned to atleast have 8-9 arcs... yeah.. incase y'all doesn't realize it, this is going to be a pretty long story.. i have the tendency to want to flesh out my character as much as possible and make them have actual character development..]
