Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - interview

As I walked, I mentally repeated the introduction of this new family of mine.

This was the Desk family. In this world my father, a 42-year-old man named Narco Desk, is a member of the Senator Council of the Gupti Empire. Authority reflects from his mere presence. And next my stepmother, Rose Desk, who is Narco's first wife. From her he has three children — Conte Desk, Louis Desk, and Nile Desk. And in this world my own mother, Radha Desk, was no longer in this world. But from her my body in this world and my younger sister, Moon Desk, were born.

Just then my father's strict gaze fell on Historia standing beside me. "Jona, who is this girl?" After coming to this world I had already guessed that things would not be easy for me, so I had prepared to quite an extent, therefore without hesitation I replied, "Her name is Historia Chester. I further said I met her while returning from the exam. And she has no home either. So I want you to allow her to work and stay in our house as a maid."

For a moment there was a pause on Historia's face. She thought in her mind 'Master even decided my name… without even asking me.'

But Narco looked at his watch. And replied not now. I have to go to the council now. Because first I will have to take her interview which I cannot do right now. But for you Alisha will handle this work.

Saying this Narco left the palace, after which within a few moments soon Historia was taken to a room where Alisha was sitting — the head of maids of the house. According to the memories I received, Alisha was very experienced and perfect in her work. First she asked Historia some light questions like her name after which Alisha directly said, "I will now ask you only one question and you must answer honestly." Some time passed after Historia went inside.

I was standing outside carefree. I knew that for an AI this interview was nothing. Inside the room Alisha asked the question, "What are the real responsibilities of a maid toward her master?"

Historia began answering with a faint smile.

"First—honesty and trustworthiness," she said.

"Complete honesty regarding the master's house, belongings, money, and private matters.

Doing work on time, not being absent without notice,

and taking every responsibility seriously."

Her voice was steady.

"Second—cleanliness and order.

Maintaining every part of the house at a high standard of cleanliness,

and ensuring that every item stays in its proper place."

Alisha listened without interrupting.

"Third—security and confidentiality.

The private life of the master should never go outside.

Taking care of the house's security—doors, windows, everything."

Historia continued,

"Fourth—respect and behavior.

Speaking respectfully with the master and every family member,

and following the given instructions."

Finally, she added,

"And fifth—initiative and alertness.

Trying to understand the master's needs without being told,

Silence spread in the room. Alisha was impressed. "Alright, you are appointed as the maid of the Desk family." After some time Historia came out.

Coming outside she gave me the good news of her appointment, after which I breathed a sigh of relief. But as soon as this news spread in the family, my elder sister Conte Desk's face fell. Jealousy was clearly visible on her face. She was the most beautiful girl in the house, but with Historia's arrival she felt threatened. I looked into her eyes and understood — she would try every possible way to trouble Historia.

After that Alisha took Historia to show the maid quarters and I turned toward my room of this world. As soon as I stepped into the room, I looked around — it was completely mine, Royal furniture, a huge bed, a bookshelf, and purple walls. The room was filled with things that would be very difficult to see even in a royal room in the 21st century.

Then my eyes fell on an old diary kept on the study table there. It was Jona Desk's personal diary. I picked it up. Inside were daily records — what he studied, whom he met, what he did. Every page was proof of the life of the person whose body was now mine.

I closed the notebook.
