Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 — Mondstadt, City of Flowers

Of course, Yichen's preparations didn't stop there.

To his abstract brain—one that followed the logic of "if you're going to do it, go all the way"—throwing a mere one million Mora at Venti was only the beginning.

Operating under the principle of "Kaeya's private stash shouldn't go unused—and using it is basically free," he somehow succeeded in lightly extorting a rather impressive sum from the Cavalry Captain.

Shortly after, the Adventurers' Guild commission board exploded overnight.

High-pay, outrageously demanding gathering commissions popped up like mushrooms after rain—ranging from common Windwheel Asters and Small Lamp Grass to rare Valberries and Philanemo Mushrooms. The locations spanned all of Teyvat, and the required quantities were nothing short of insane.

Low-rank adventurers celebrated like they'd glimpsed the golden road to financial freedom, while Guildmaster Cyrus once again found himself questioning his understanding of money, labor, and reality itself.

Almost simultaneously, Mondstadt's flower shops—and even merchants rushing in from Liyue—welcomed a customer who spent Mora like water.

Orders flew out like snowflakes.

By eyewitness accounts, he practically bought out every flower with a name, in quantities "enough to carpet Mondstadt from the plaza to the city gate three times over—with leftovers."

For a full week, Yichen forcibly restrained himself from the now-instinctive urge to perform his three daily confession check-ins.

He worked as efficiently as ever, handled paperwork, accompanied patrols, even exceeded expectations—but his gaze would occasionally drift out the window, toward figures secretly busy preparing something… before he snapped his eyes back as if nothing was happening.

Only the tight line of his lips and the unconscious tapping of his fingers betrayed his unrest.

That night, alone at home, Yichen stared at a stack of invoices thick enough to use as a brick—total expenditures exceeding thirty million Mora.

He rubbed his temples, looked at the absurd number, and let out a long, complicated sigh.

"…I hope Jean likes it."

The next morning, just after dawn—

"Jean, the weather's so nice today. How about a morning run outside the city? Sitting at a desk all the time isn't good for you."

His voice was perfectly natural.

Only his heartbeat thundered in his ears.

Jean was slightly surprised, but seeing the fresh morning light outside, she nodded.

The two ran side by side out of Mondstadt's gates, their figures disappearing into the mist and greenery toward Dawn Winery.

Not long after they left—

As if answering a silent signal, Mondstadt came alive.

The Knights of Favonius mobilized almost entirely. Alongside them, a massive number of adventurers on "special temporary commissions" swarmed out like worker bees, hauling mountains of flowers and decorations to designated locations—swift, orderly, precise.

"Move, move! Faster! Everything must be done before the Grand Master gets back!"

Kaeya—shockingly not slacking—surveyed the scene with his one visible eye.

"That side—yes! Let it cascade like a waterfall! That's the effect we want! Hahaha!"

Lisa lounged on a plaza bench, lazily lifting heavy floral arrangements into place with sparks of Electro.

Amber darted around like a busy red bunny, delivering messages and fixing details, her cheeks flushed with excitement.

"Eula! The ribbon color here's wrong!—Ah! Bennett! Careful with that basket of roses!"

Eula stood on higher ground, arms crossed, appearing detached—but the tightness of her lips betrayed complicated emotions. She still couldn't help issuing instructions.

"The left wall lacks depth. Mix in white Cecilias… Hmph. I'll remember this grudge—making me do something like this."

Even Diluc made a rare appearance at Angel's Share, directing staff as tasteful flower baskets were hung beneath eaves and windows. His expression remained cool—but he didn't stop the madness.

As dawn spread golden light across the land, Mondstadt transformed.

Windwheel Asters spun in the breeze. Rainbow Roses poured from rooftops like waterfalls. Cecilias perfumed street corners. Philanemo Mushrooms glowed softly in alleys.

The city shed its armor and became a dreamlike garden.

All of it unfolded in tense, passionate, perfectly coordinated silence—

For the sake of one final confession.

When Jean and Yichen returned from their run, bathed in rising sunlight, she stopped dead on the stone bridge over the moat.

Her breath caught.

Before her was no longer the familiar city of wind and freedom—

But an endless, dazzling sea of flowers.

Rainbow Rose arches stretched from the bridge into the distance.

White Cecilias cascaded from every window and roof.

Windwheel Asters spun beside glowing mushrooms.

Lotus heads, Lamp Grass, Valberries—flowers named and unnamed filled every inch of space, gently wrapping stone and street alike.

The air no longer smelled of wine and dandelions—but of intoxicating floral abundance.

"…This…"

Jean's blue eyes widened. She covered her mouth.

Yichen maintained a calm exterior as he gently took her hand, guiding her into the blooming city.

The streets were empty—but she could feel countless gazes watching from windows, rooftops, behind flowers.

At each special display, Yichen stopped and spoke softly.

"These Cecilias were picked last night from Starsnatch Cliff—still carrying sea breeze and starlight."

"That Rose wall was… 'sponsored' by Kaeya. I think his savings hurt."

"The Windwheel Asters—Amber gathered them from every hill around Mondstadt."

"The Glaze Lilies and Qingxin were rushed in from Liyue…"

Each flower carried a story.

Jean listened silently, her heart swelling, eyes warming.

At last, they reached the central plaza.

Beneath the Anemo Archon's statue, flowers formed a massive heart.

A gentle breeze swept through—carrying petals and a faint hint of apple wine.

Then—

A bouquet descended, perfectly fresh, as if just picked.

Sumeru Roses.

Liyue Silk Flowers.

Padisarah glowing softly.

They landed in Yichen's hands.

He inhaled deeply and turned to Jean.

"This… is my one hundredth confession."

Jean's face burned crimson.

Instead of taking the flowers—

She stepped forward and wrapped him in a fierce, heartfelt embrace.

Her face pressed into his shoulder, voice muffled and trembling with joy.

"This last confession… is far too unfair…"

"—I refuse."

Then she cupped his stunned face, rose on her toes, and pressed a gentle, resolute kiss to his forehead.

Like a knight's blessing.

"One hundred…"

"It's over."

She pulled back slightly, smiling—cheeks flushed, eyes bright.

"So next time…"

"Starting from the first…"

"I will say yes."

Yichen stood frozen.

Jean touched his lips gently.

"Thank you, Yichen."

"I'm truly happy."

"And…"

"I like you."

She turned, facing all the hidden onlookers.

"All right—everyone!"

"I see you! I hear you!"

"The celebration—"

"—begins!"

Cheers exploded like a tidal wave.

Petals flew. Music rose. Tables filled with food and wine.

Mondstadt erupted into celebration.

Only one black-haired young man remained petrified—holding priceless flowers, a kiss on his forehead.
