'Let's go.' Hikaru said internally to Inner as he jumped to the Yamanaka shop roof, bending down and sliding open a window as he flipped in.
A slight 'Creek~' sounded out at the sound of him landing on the hardwood floors of the shop.
Hikaru, looking up, analyzed his surroundings; what met his eyes were several flowerbeds running vertically along the floor, holding several flowers of differing shapes, sizes, and colors. Attached to the adjacent wall were a few shelves holding bouquets.
Hikaru, standing up, looked over the shop a couple times trying to find those flowers, the flowers that were in his mother's room every time he visited. He didn't know where they came from, only that her previous blank face devoid of anything almost seemed happy when they were present.
'Your 10 o'clock' Inner sounded in his head. Hikaru looked to his left and ahead until his gaze stopped on a flower as bright as the sun. It was a tall plant with a yellow sun-like flower head and brown centers.
'Sunflower' Hikaru thought as he slowly walked over to the flowerbed, a small smile on his face as he found the only thing known to bring back a small piece of the mother he never knew.
Walking over, Hikaru reached out, but as he was about to touch the flower, he sensed something, something telling him to move, yanking his arm back. Hikaru did a small flip backward as a kunai came down on the previous place where his hand was.
Flickering in the same blond-haired Yamanaka member he thought was outside being distracted by his clone stood in front of him.
The man smiling slightly was met with Hikaru's emotionless face simply analyzing him without saying a word.
"What, kid? Cat got your tongue? I applaud you; surprisingly that clone Jutsu nearly got me, but you didn't do enough research, kid. I fought in the Second Shinobi War as a mere child and survived. Even if my whole body is telling me it's real, my instincts will always tell me I'm wrong." The Yamanaka clan member said as he chuckled, his sharp gaze on Hikaru.
Hikaru, however, just stood there, his his mind running possible ways to get both the flowers and escape.
"Do you not fear me? I am a friend of the Demon Fox." Hikaru said, his tone cold.
"Hahha, you think I'm like those other idiots that I fear the demon fox? Trust me, kid, the man I serve is way worse." The man said, sticking out his tongue, revealing a weird mark in the shape of three solid lines and two broken lines from the back of the tongue to the tip.
"And it just so happens that you're at the top of his acquire list; if not for the fact that the Hokage's eyes are always on you, you would've already been acquired. But now you've given me the perfect reason to take a stain on the Yamanaka like you out while also getting on my master's good side. So I am eternally grateful. It seems like two disgusting stains on the Yamanaka clan's reputation will disappear today." The man said, laughing hysterically with a manic grin on his face.
"Two?" Hikaru said his emotionless expression cracking just a bit as he tried to grasp the man's meaning, but Inner, the personification of Hikaru's deep emotions and thoughts, already knew; he sat in the Mindscape, a solemn expression on his face.
'Mom,' Inner muttered to Hikaru as realization dawned on him. As he immediately turned, running to the window he came through, the man faster formed a circle with his hands; his index and middle fingers came together and connected with the ones from his other hand, and both his thumbs came together to form the base.
"Mind Transfer Jutsu" The man muttered as he extended his spiritual (yin) energy outward towards Hikaru at immense speed. Hikaru's body, feeling a foreign force trying to invade the body and fight for control, stopped in its tracks. The Yamanaka Jonin, looking around the black void-like space of Hikaru's mind, saw Hikaru's consciousness restrained by the mind transfer Jutsu.
"Heh, idiot, you come here without knowing the signature Clan of the Yamanaka and how to avo—" The man started, but before he could finish, a punch connected to his face, sending him back a few feet.
"What the—" The man said as he looked to where the punch came from, only to see an exact copy of Hikaru, the only difference being the word 'Inner' written in kanji on his hand.
"Get the fuck out of here." Inner said, looking at the man, his face darkened.
The man seeing Inner instinctively looked at Hikaru's consciousness, which was still restricted by the jutsu. "What are you?" he couldn't help but ask in confusion. 'A second consciousness?' Even saying it didn't make sense to him, this should be impossible.
"I don't know how or what this is, but it doesn't matter. As long as that boy is restrained, all I have to do is beat you and he'll be mine." The man said as he chuckled arrogantly.
Inner seeing this only smiled. "Who said he's restrained?" Inner said as a burst of spiritual energy spewed from Hikaru's location as it dissolved the restraints on Hikaru's consciousness.
"Jutsu…copied." Hikaru mumbled, his face the same expressionless it always was as he was freed, extending his hand towards the man. Hikaru erupted a force of spiritual energy at the man, forcing him back to his body.
The man's vision snapping back to reality, he collapsed to his knees, red-hot blood streaming down his nostrils, ears, and mouth.
"What—" the man started, his left hand touching the dripping blood, bringing it to his eyes as his vision warped and doubled.
His head His head felt like it was splitting open with his thoughts tangled. His balance was gone, as he found it hard to even stay up. His limbs felt heavy and slow to respond.
'That force—he overpowered me with pure spiritual energy. A dirty half-breed has that much spiritual energy. Is this why the Hokage has so much resources focused on you?' The man said as he shivered slightly, his face twisting with anger.
"I'm sorry, but I can't let a stain like you live; it would be detrimental to my master and clan, so die," the man said, pushing his shaking body up slowly with difficulty as he began forming hand signs slowly.
Bird—'Wind release Air Bullets'
The man said slowly as the world lagged half a second behind his thought.
'They're going to kill her. They think that killing her will eradicate a stain on their clan, that they're doing a service to everyone…that they're right,' Inner said.
'Yeah, but they're not there. There's nothing wrong or right about it; they're just doing what they want.' Hikaru shot back, his voice carrying a pain he couldn't describe simply because he had never felt or understood it.
'Yeah, you're right, but unfortunately knowing that changes nothing, so let me ask you this: what are you going to do about it?' Inner asked back despite the fact he already knew.
'I think—' Hikaru started internally as externally he emotionlessly watched the man perform several hand signs, his hands slow and shaky.
Running his left hand through his ash-grey hair with a sigh, pushing it back as his now-revealed sea-green eyes began to glow eerily
'I'll just—'
The spiritual energy in his body started bubbling as if it was trying to awaken something, extending his hand out. Hikaru looked as if he was about to reach an apex, something never seen before in this world.
'Do what—'
The man finishing his jutsu shot several bullets made of air toward Hikaru, who just stood there, the eerie glow getting brighter and brighter.
'I Wan—'
Just as Hikaru's spiritual energy was reaching a boiling point, a small figure appeared in front of him, snapping him out of his trance, his spiritual energy returning to its original state. The figure, a small boy Hikaru's age, had spiky silver hair and a black mask covering his mouth; on his back a short tanto was strapped.
His eyes were puffy and heavy with eyebags on his face, and he had a dark and tired expression as if the boy hadn't slept for days, drowning in pain.
Drawing the sword, the boy quickly covered it with a layer of chakra, cutting each air ball into four with great speed. After cutting the air spheres, the boy rushed in with his blade, aiming for the man's heart. The man tried to dodge but was still disoriented by Hikaru's mental attack and was half a second slower than the boy as his cheek got cut, blood dripping slightly and his breath heavy.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the child of a traitor helping the child of a slut," the man laughed, hoping to throw off the boys, giving him enough time to gain the upper hand again. And it worked; the boy hearing this went rigid as anger took over, his hand gripping his sword, his mind racing on how to hack this man apart.
Recognizing the boy, Hikaru's emotionless voice rang out, snapping Kakashi out of his stupor. "Calm down, Kakashi."
'Why's he here?' Inner couldn't help but ask.
'I have no idea.' Hikaru responded back simply.
On Kakashi's side, he was thinking the same thing: 'Why am I here? I could've just left.' Kakashi couldn't help but think. He had walked to the flowershop to get flowers for his father's grave, but hearing yelling and sensing something off, he peeked through the window only to see Hikaru standing limp as the man attempted to take over his body.
And before he knew it, he had been watching the fight up until the air bullets were shot out at Hikaru. Feeling the fight was getting out of hand, he prepared to leave, but as he was, he felt…. A push from something or someone telling him to help Hikaru, and then he was here.
'But that kid' Kakashi thought as he gave a side glance to Hikaru, 'He's not as ordinary as he seems.' Kakashi reasoned he saw the boy break out of the Yamanaka jutsu, which he learned about from his father, and he knew a jutsu of one of the top 5 clans shouldn't be that easy to break, and that strange feeling… Kakashi could feel that whether he helped or not, that boy would be just fine.
Which was weird because, as far as he knew, Hikaru was a lazy kid who never practiced and was hated by all due to being a product of an affair between two big clans, though he never bothered to learn anything else.
"Don't tell me what to do, you weakling—" Kakashi started sneering, but a sudden sentence from Hikaru stopped him in his tracks. "Watch out, idiot," Hikaru said as Kakashi looked up to see the man coming down on him, a kunai in hand.
Backflipping Kakashi dodged the slash as he landed next to Hikaru. "Keep him occupied and standing in the same place; when I give the word, move." Hikaru said blankly,
"And why would I do that?" Kakashi asked, irritated, who did this guy think he is? he asked himself.
"Because you have no choice now, go!" Hikaru said as he pushed Kakashi toward the man who had his kunai ready, already bringing it down on Kakashi's figure, who quickly brought up his sword to block, parrying the attack in an attempt to hit the man's neck, but the man, seeing this, completed a one-handed Just as soon as Kakashi's sword came down with a puff of smoke, a log appeared.
The real man appearing behind Hikaru grinned menacingly as he brought his kunai downward, aiming for Hikaru's throat. But as soon as the blade touched his neck, a cloud of smoke appeared with a log taking Hikaru's place.
"What the—" the man muttered as the real Hikaru appeared a ways away from him, his hands forming the same hand signs the man did. His hands formed a circle with his hands; his index and middle fingers came together and connected with the ones from his other hand, and both his thumbs came together to form the base.
"Watch our body, okay?" Hikaru told Inner as he muttered, "Mind-body switch technique," as his consciousness took the form of spiritual energy and shot out of his body and into the body of the man.
The man feeling the familiar sense of the jutsu couldn't help but call out "How do you know that jutsu, you half-breed?" The man asked, his voice strained as Hikaru started fighting for control over the man's body.
Inner in Hikaru's body smiled. "Don't worry about it," he said, smirking slightly.
The man hearing Hikaru's voice from his body looked confused. 'How can he still talk?' the man thought as Hikaru finished restraining the man's body and gaining control.
Kakashi, watching this whole process, was at a loss for words as he tried to understand what was happening.
Hikaru, on the other hand, in the man's body, brought the now-controlled man's left hand to his throat, clasping it around it, cutting off air.
The body feeling the lack of air convulsed as Hikaru, not letting go, pressed even harder. Sensing he was also beginning to loose consciousness from the choke, Hikaru gave partial control back to the man's consciousness, only keeping control of his hand.
The man, now back, said through gasps as his air got less and less, "You bitches child … cough, even if you kill me, just know my master will come for you and kill you just like they're killing that bitch now, hehheehe," the man said as he laughed hysterically. Hikaru, hearing this, tightened his grip.
Kakashi, seeing this, tightened his fist. "His mom? Someone in the village is planning to kill his mom?" Kakashi asked himself, confused by what he heard.
Sighing, Kakashi walked over slowly, his sword drawn. "I'm sorry, Hikaru, but this is for your own good." Kakashi muttered as, with a flick of his sword, he cut off the man's hand that Hikaru was using to choke him as blood squirted out like a geyser.
"Aaahhhh," the man screamed in pain.
Inner in Hikaru's body, seeing this, said in a low tone as he glared at Kakashi, "What are you doing, Kakashi?" as he charged at Kakashi with a kick, keeping the hand sign, as Kakashi, seeing this, simply dodged lazily. Hikaru, still in the man's body, switched to the man's other hand, clasping it around his throat.
Kakashi, seeing this out of the corner of his eye, with a slash cut off the man's other hand as another scream of agony rang out as blood spewed even more.
Hikaru's consciousness grinding his teeth at Kakashi's actions canceled the jutsu, his consciousness returning to his body.
Hikaru, now in control, looked at Kakashi, his consciousness back in control, his mask of cold indifference cracking slightly as anger filled his voice. "Why did you stop me? -" He started but was cut off by Kakashi's voice, his head-down expression hidden.
"You need to go, go save her, or at least…say goodbye." Kakashi said, his voice cracking imperceptibly. Hearing this, Hikaru's eyes widened as clarity poured over him.
"What about him?" Hikaru asked, his usual demeanor returning slightly.
"I'll handle it, so go… Go!" He yelled, his tired eyes lifting to meet Hikaru's. Hikaru, hearing this, nodded slightly after a few moments as he walked past Kakashi, whispering "Thank you" in his same emotionless tone, but appreciation was evident before he ran out the door, grabbing a sunflower on his way out.
After Hikaru left, Kakashi sighed as he looked up, his eyes landing on the ceiling, but his eyes seemed to be looking beyond it into the sky as memories flooded him, a single tear rolling down his face.
"Is this why you did it? Father, is this bond I feel forming what you meant when you talked about comrades?" he asked. "Was it worth it? They curse you and call you a traitor. Was it worth it to fail the mission and village?" He said, his voice breaking.
"You know, these last few days I've been thinking you were wrong—wrong to put your relationships over the village, wrong to fail a mission, wrong to kill yourself, wrong to leave me—but now I don't know, Dad. I really don't know. Why don't I know? I'm supposed to be a genius, so why do I feel so stupid? Why can't I understand you? Why, Father, why?" Kakashi said as he fell to his knees, tears streaming down his face.
